1Certo dia, Noemi, sua sogra, disse a Rute: “Minha filha, acho que está na hora de eu encontrar um marido e um casamento feliz para você.
2Sabe em quem estou pensando? Boaz, o senhor das servas com quem você esteve! Ele tem sido tão bom para nós, e é um parente próximo. Fiquei sabendo que hoje à noite ele estará debulhando a cevada na eira.
3Faça o que vou lhe dizer: tome banho, perfume-se e vista a sua melhor roupa. Depois vá até o lugar onde Boaz está trabalhando, mas não deixe que Boaz a veja antes de terminar a refeição.
4Preste atenção no lugar em que ele vai se deitar. Então aproxime-se, levante a coberta dos pés de Boaz e deite-se ali. Ele dirá a você o que você deve fazer”.
5Rute respondeu: “Está bem. Vou fazer tudo o que a senhora me disse”.
6E assim, naquela noite, Rute foi até o lugar onde debulhavam as espigas, seguindo à risca as instruções de sua sogra.
7Depois de Boaz ter comido e bebido, e estando já um pouco alegre, foi se deitar, perto de um monte de grãos. Caminhando silenciosamente, Rute se aproximou, descobriu os seus pés e se deitou.
8No meio da noite, Boaz acordou de repente, virou-se e ficou admirado de encontrar uma mulher deitada aos seus pés!
9“Quem é você?”, perguntou ele, assustado! “Sou eu, senhor, sua serva Rute”, respondeu ela. “Estenda a sua capa sobre a sua serva, pois o senhor é o meu resgatador”.
10“O Senhor a abençoe, minha filha!”, exclamou Boaz. “Agora você está sendo mais bondosa para Noemi do que foi antes. Naturalmente, você deveria preferir um homem mais jovem, mesmo que ele fosse pobre. Apesar disso, você deixou de lado os seus desejos pessoais.
11Agora, minha filha, não se preocupe com nada. Eu vou cuidar de todos os detalhes para o casamento, pois toda a cidade sabe que você é uma mulher virtuosa.
12Existe um problema, porém. É verdade que sou o parente resgatador, mas há outro resgatador que é ainda mais chegado do que eu.
13Fique aqui durante a noite; pela manhã eu vou procurá-lo e conversar com ele. Se ele quiser resgatá-la, está bem; que a resgate. Mas, se ele não quiser, eu juro pelo Senhor que eu a resgatarei. Agora deite-se e durma até o amanhecer”.
14Assim, ela ficou deitada aos pés de Boaz até pela manhã, levantando-se antes do sol nascer, para não ser reconhecida, pois Boaz lhe havia dito: “Ninguém deve saber que uma mulher veio até aqui”.
15“Traga-me a sua capa que está sobre você e segure-a”, disse Boaz a Rute. Ela a segurou e Boaz colocou na capa cerca de vinte e cinco quilos de cevada, como presente para Noemi, e a colocou sobre as costas de Rute, que voltou à cidade.
16Quando Rute voltou à sua sogra, Noemi lhe perguntou: “Como foram as coisas, minha filha?” Então Rute lhe contou tudo o que aquele homem tinha feito,
17e acrescentou: “Ele me deu esta cevada, dizendo: ‘Você não vai voltar com as mãos vazias para a sua sogra!’ ”
18Noemi, então, disse a Rute: “Espere um pouco, minha filha, até ficarmos sabendo o que vai acontecer, porque Boaz não vai descansar antes de resolver esse caso. E ele vai resolvê-lo ainda hoje”.

1Y DÍJOLE su suegra Noemi: Hija mía, ¿no te tengo de buscar descanso, que te sea bueno?
2¿No es Booz nuestro pariente, con cuyas mozas tú has estado? He aquí que él avienta esta noche la parva de las cebadas.
3Te lavarás pues, y te ungirás, y vistiéndote tus vestidos, pasarás á la era; mas no te darás á conocer al varón hasta que él haya acabado de comer y de beber.
4Y cuando él se acostare, repara tú el lugar donde él se acostará, é irás, y descubrirás los pies, y te acostarás allí; y él te dirá lo que hayas de hacer.
5Y le respondió: Haré todo lo que tú me mandares.
6Descendió pues á la era, é hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado.
7Y como Booz hubo comido y bebido, y su corazón estuvo contento, retiróse á dormir á un lado del montón. Entonces ella vino calladamente, y descubrió los pies, y acostóse.
8Y aconteció, que á la media noche se estremeció aquel hombre, y palpó: y he aquí, la mujer que estaba acostada á sus pies.
9Entonces él dijo: ¿Quién eres? Y ella respondió: Yo soy Ruth tu sierva: extiende el borde de tu capa sobre tu sierva, por cuanto eres pariente cercano.
10Y él dijo: Bendita seas tú de Jehová, hija mía; que has hecho mejor tu postrera gracia que la primera, no yendo tras los mancebos, sean pobres ó ricos.
11Ahora pues, no temas, hija mía: yo haré contigo lo que tú dijeres, pues que toda la puerta de mi pueblo sabe que eres mujer virtuosa.
12Y ahora, aunque es cierto que yo soy pariente cercano, con todo eso hay pariente más cercano que yo.
13Reposa esta noche, y cuando sea de día, si él te redimiere, bien, redímate; mas si él no te quisiere redimir, yo te redimiré, vive Jehová. Descansa pues hasta la mañana.
14Y después que reposó á sus pies hasta la mañana, levantóse, antes que nadie pudiese conocer á otro. Y él dijo: No se sepa que haya venido mujer á la era.
15Después le dijo: Llega el lienzo que traes sobre ti, y ten de él. Y teniéndolo ella, él midió seis medidas de cebada, y púsoselas á cuestas: y vínose ella á la ciudad.
16Así que vino á su suegra, ésta le dijo: ¿Qué pues, hija mía? Y declaróle ella todo lo que con aquel varón le había acontecido.
17Y dijo: Estas seis medidas de cebada me dió, diciéndome: Porque no vayas vacía á tu suegra.
18Entonces Noemi dijo: Reposa, hija mía, hasta que sepas cómo cae la cosa: porque aquel hombre no parará hasta que hoy concluya el negocio.

1Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
5And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
7And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
10And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.
14And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
18Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
World English Bible
1Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?
2Now isn’t Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens you were? Behold, he will be winnowing barley tonight on the threshing floor.
3Therefore wash yourself, anoint yourself, get dressed, and go down to the threshing floor; but don’t make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.
4It shall be, when he lies down, that you shall note the place where he is lying. Then you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down. Then he will tell you what to do.”
5She said to her, “All that you say, I will do.”
6She went down to the threshing floor, and did everything that her mother-in-law told her.
7When Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. She came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down.
8At midnight, the man was startled and turned himself; and behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9He said, “Who are you?” She answered, “I am Ruth your servant. Therefore spread the corner of your garment over your servant; for you are a near kinsman.”
10He said, “You are blessed by the LORD, my daughter. You have shown more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, because you didn’t follow young men, whether poor or rich.
11Now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do to you all that you say; for all the city of my people knows that you are a worthy woman.
12Now it is true that I am a near kinsman. However, there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13Stay this night, and in the morning, if he will perform for you the part of a kinsman, good. Let him do the kinsman’s duty. But if he will not do the duty of a kinsman for you, then I will do the duty of a kinsman for you, as the LORD lives. Lie down until the morning.”
14She lay at his feet until the morning, then she rose up before one could discern another. For he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.”
15He said, “Bring the mantle that is on you, and hold it.” She held it; and he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; then he went into the city.
16When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did it go, my daughter?” She told her all that the man had done for her.
17She said, “He gave me these six measures of barley; for he said, ‘Don’t go empty to your mother-in-law.’”
18Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know what will happen; for the man will not rest until he has settled this today.”
