1Nun besaß Noomi einen Verwandten von seiten ihres Mannes, einen sehr wohlhabenden Mann aus der Familie Elimelechs, namens Boas.
2Als nun die Moabitin Ruth zu Noomi sagte: »Ich will doch aufs Feld gehen und Ähren lesen hinter einem her, der es mir erlauben wird«, erwiderte diese ihr: »Geh nur, meine Tochter!«
3So ging sie denn hin und las auf dem Felde hinter den Schnittern her auf, und der Zufall wollte es, daß das Grundstück dem Boas gehörte, der aus der Familie Elimelechs stammte.
4Da kam Boas gerade aus Bethlehem und sagte zu den Schnittern: »Der HERR sei mit euch!«; sie antworteten ihm: »Der HERR segne dich!«
5Darauf fragte Boas den Großknecht bei seinen Schnittern: »Wem gehört das Mädchen da?«
6Der Großknecht antwortete: »Es ist das moabitische Mädchen, das mit Noomi aus dem Lande der Moabiter heimgekehrt ist.
7Sie hat uns gebeten: ›Laßt mich doch Ähren lesen und zwischen den Garben sammeln hinter den Schnittern her!‹ So ist sie denn gekommen und hat ausgehalten vom frühen Morgen an bis jetzt und sich keinen Augenblick Ruhe gegönnt.«
8Da sagte Boas zu Ruth: »Hörst du wohl, meine Tochter? Du brauchst auf kein anderes Feld zu gehen, um dort aufzulesen, und brauchst auch nicht von hier wegzugehen, sondern schließe dich hier an meine Mägde an!
9Laß deine Augen immer auf das Feld gerichtet sein, wo sie schneiden, und gehe hinter ihnen her; ich habe auch den Knechten befohlen, dich nicht zu belästigen. Und wenn du Durst hast, so gehe nur zu den Gefäßen und trinke von dem Wasser, das die Knechte geholt haben!«
10Da warf sie sich mit dem Angesicht vor ihm auf die Erde nieder und sagte zu ihm: »Wie kommt’s doch, daß du so freundlich gegen mich bist und dich meiner annimmst, da ich doch eine Ausländerin bin?«
11Boas antwortete ihr: »O es ist mir alles genau berichtet worden, was du an deiner Schwiegermutter nach dem Tode deines Mannes getan hast: Vater, Mutter und Heimatland hast du verlassen und bist zu einem Volk gezogen, das du früher nicht kanntest.
12Der HERR vergelte dir dein Tun, und voller Lohn möge dir zuteil werden vom HERRN, dem Gott Israels, unter dessen Flügeln du Schutz zu suchen hergekommen bist!«
13Da antwortete sie: »Ich danke dir für deine Freundlichkeit, mein Herr! Denn du hast mich getröstet und deiner Magd mit Herzlichkeit zugesprochen, obgleich ich nicht einmal wie eine von deinen Mägden bin.«
14Zur Essenszeit sagte dann Boas zu ihr: »Komm hierher und iß mit von dem Brot und tunke deinen Bissen in den Essig!« Als sie sich nun neben die Schnitter gesetzt hatte, reichte er ihr geröstete Körner, und sie aß, bis sie satt war, und behielt noch einen Teil übrig.
15Als sie dann aufstand, um wieder zu lesen, gab Boas seinen Knechten den Befehl: »Sie darf auch zwischen den Garben lesen, und ihr sollt ihr nichts zuleide tun!
16Zieht vielmehr hin und wieder Halme für sie aus den Bündeln heraus und laßt sie liegen; sie mag sie dann auflesen, ohne daß ihr sie scheltet!«
17So las sie denn auf dem Felde bis zum Abend, und als sie dann das ausklopfte, was sie gesammelt hatte, war es beinahe ein Epha Gerste.
18Sie hob es auf, ging in die Stadt und zeigte ihrer Schwiegermutter, was sie gelesen hatte; dann holte sie auch noch das hervor, was sie vom Essen übrigbehalten hatte, und gab es ihr.
19Da sagte ihre Schwiegermutter zu ihr: »Wo hast du heute so fleißig gelesen? Gesegnet sei, der sich deiner so freundlich angenommen hat!« Nun erzählte sie ihrer Schwiegermutter, auf wessen Felde sie bei der Arbeit gewesen war, und sagte: »Der Mann, auf dessen Felde ich heute bei der Arbeit gewesen bin, heißt Boas.«
20Da erwiderte Noomi ihrer Schwiegertochter: »Gesegnet sei er vom HERRN, der seine Güte weder den noch Lebenden noch den schon Toten entzogen hat!« Dann fuhr Noomi fort: »Der Mann ist mit uns nahe verwandt; er ist einer von unsern Lösern.«
21Darauf sagte die Moabitin Ruth: »Er hat auch zu mir gesagt: ›Halte dich nur zu meinen Leuten, bis sie mit meiner ganzen Ernte fertig sind!‹«
22Da antwortete Noomi ihrer Schwiegertochter Ruth: »Es ist gut, liebe Tochter, wenn du mit seinen Mägden hinausgehst: so kann man dir auf einem andern Felde nichts zuleide tun.«
23So hielt sie sich denn beim Ährenlesen zu den Mägden des Boas, bis die Gersten- und Weizenernte zu Ende war; dann blieb sie bei ihrer Schwiegermutter zu Hause.

1Y TENÍA Noemi un pariente de su marido, varón poderoso y de hecho, de la familia de Elimelech, el cual se llamaba Booz.
2Y Ruth la Moabita dijo á Noemi: Ruégote que me dejes ir al campo, y cogeré espigas en pos de aquel á cuyos ojos hallare gracia. Y ella le respondió: Ve, hija mía.
3Fué pues, y llegando, espigó en el campo en pos de los segadores: y aconteció por ventura, que la suerte del campo era de Booz, el cual era de la parentela de Elimelech.
4Y he aquí que Booz vino de Beth-lehem, y dijo á los segadores: Jehová sea con vosotros. Y ellos respondieron: Jehová te bendiga.
5Y Booz dijo á su criado el sobrestante de los segadores: ¿Cúya es esta moza?
6Y el criado, sobrestante de los segadores, respondió y dijo: Es la moza de Moab, que volvió con Noemi de los campos de Moab;
7Y ha dicho: Ruégote que me dejes coger y juntar tras los segadores entre las gavillas: entró pues, y está desde por la mañana hasta ahora, menos un poco que se detuvo en casa.
8Entonces Booz dijo á Ruth: Oye, hija mía, no vayas á espigar á otro campo, ni pases de aquí: y aquí estarás con mis mozas.
9Mira bien al campo que segaren, y síguelas: porque yo he mandado á los mozos que no te toquen. Y si tuvieres sed, ve á los vasos, y bebe del agua que sacaren los mozos.
10Ella entonces bajando su rostro inclinóse á tierra, y díjole: ¿Por qué he hallado gracia en tus ojos para que tú me reconozcas, siendo yo extranjera?
11Y respondiendo Booz, díjole: Por cierto se me ha declarado todo lo que has hecho con tu suegra después de la muerte de tu marido, y que dejando á tu padre y á tu madre y la tierra donde naciste, has venido á pueblo que no conociste antes.
12Jehová galardone tu obra, y tu remuneración sea llena por Jehová Dios de Israel, que has venido para cubrirte debajo de sus alas.
13Y ella dijo: Señor mío, halle yo gracia delante de tus ojos; porque me has consolado, y porque has hablado al corazón de tu sierva, no siendo yo como una de tus criadas.
14Y Booz le dijo á la hora de comer: Allégate aquí, y come del pan, y moja tu bocado en el vinagre. Y sentóse ella junto á los segadores, y él le dió del potaje, y comió hasta que se hartó y le sobró.
15Levantóse luego para espigar. Y Booz mandó á sus criados, diciendo: Coja también espigas entre las gavillas, y no la avergoncéis;
16Antes echaréis á sabiendas de los manojos, y la dejaréis que coja, y no la reprendáis.
17Y espigó en el campo hasta la tarde, y desgranó lo que había cogido, y fué como un epha de cebada.
18Y tomólo, y vínose á la ciudad; y su suegra vió lo que había cogido. Sacó también luego lo que le había sobrado después de harta, y dióselo.
19Y díjole su suegra: ¿Dónde has espigado hoy? ¿y dónde has trabajado? bendito sea el que te ha reconocido. Y ella declaró á su suegra lo que le había acontecido con aquél, y dijo: El nombre del varón con quien hoy he trabajado es Booz.
20Y dijo Noemi á su nuera: Sea él bendito de Jehová, pues que no ha rehusado á los vivos la benevolencia que tuvo para con los finados. Díjole después Noemi: Nuestro pariente es aquel varón, y de nuestros redentores es.
21Y Ruth Moabita dijo: A más de esto me ha dicho: Júntate con mis criados, hasta que hayan acabado toda mi siega.
22Y Noemi respondió á Ruth su nuera: Mejor es, hija mía, que salgas con sus criadas, que no que te encuentren en otro campo.
23Estuvo pues junta con las mozas de Booz espigando, hasta que la siega de las cebadas y la de los trigos fué acabada; mas con su suegra habitó.

1And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
3And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
4And, behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.
5Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
6And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
7And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
8Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
9Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
10Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
11And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
12The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
13Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
14And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
15And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
17So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
18And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
19And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man’s name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
20And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
21And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
23So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
World English Bible
1Naomi had a relative of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.
2Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I find favor.” She said to her, “Go, my daughter.”
3She went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.
4Behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “May the LORD be with you.” They answered him, “May the LORD bless you.”
5Then Boaz said to his servant who was set over the reapers, “Whose young lady is this?”
6The servant who was set over the reapers answered, “It is the Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab.
7She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.”
8Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Don’t go to glean in another field, and don’t go from here, but stay here close to my maidens.
9Let your eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them. Haven’t I commanded the young men not to touch you? When you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from that which the young men have drawn.”
10Then she fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your sight, that you should take knowledge of me, since I am a foreigner?”
11Boaz answered her, “I have been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father, your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people that you didn’t know before.
12May the LORD repay your work, and a full reward be given to you from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
13Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me, and because you have spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not as one of your servants.”
14At meal time Boaz said to her, “Come here, and eat some bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” She sat beside the reapers, and they passed her parched grain. She ate, was satisfied, and left some of it.
15When she had risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and don’t reproach her.
16Also pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it. Let her glean, and don’t rebuke her.”
17So she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
18She took it up, and went into the city. Then her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her that which she had left after she had enough.
19Her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.” She told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”
20Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the LORD, who has not abandoned his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her, “The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen.”
21Ruth the Moabitess said, “Yes, he said to me, ‘You shall stay close to my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’”
22Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, and that they not harm you in any other field.”
23So she stayed close to the maidens of Boaz, to glean to the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she lived with her mother-in-law.
