1Il y avait un homme connu de Noémi et de son époux ; cet homme, parent d'Elimélech, était riche et il se nommait Booz.
2Et Ruth la Moabite dit à Noémi : Je m'en vais aux champs, et je ramasserai des épis à la suite des moissonneurs, chez celui aux yeux de qui je trouverai grâce ; et Noémi répondit : Va, ma fille.
3Elle partit donc, et, étant arrivée, elle glana dans un champ, derrière les moissonneurs ; elle était, tombée par aventure sur un endroit du champ de Booz , le parent d'Elimélech.
4Et voilà que Booz vint de Bethléem, et il dit aux moissonneurs : Le Seigneur soit avec vous, et ils lui dirent : Que le Seigneur te bénisse.
5Et Booz dit à son serviteur, qui était placé au-dessus des moissonneurs : Qui est cette jeune fille ?
6Son serviteur, qui était placé au-dessus des moissonneurs, répondit : C'est la jeune Moabite, qui est revenue avec Noémi du champ de Moab.
7Elle m'a dit : le glanerai et je recueillerai des épis derrière les moissonneurs ; et elle a glané depuis le matin jusqu'au soir, et elle n'a pas pris dans le champ un moment de repos.
8Alors, Booz dit à Ruth : N'as-tu pas entendu, ma fille ? Ne va pas glaner dans un autre champ ; ne t'éloigne pas d'ici, et attache-toi aux pas de mes filles.
9Les yeux fixés sur le champ où elles moissonnent, tu iras après elles ; voilà que j'ai commandé à mes serviteurs de te respecter. Et quand tu auras soif, tu iras aux vaisseaux, et tu boiras où boivent mes serviteurs.
10Et, pour témoigner son respect, elle tomba la face contre terre, et elle lui dit : Comment ai-je trouvé grâce devant tes yeux pour que tu m'honores, moi qui suis une étrangère ?
11Et il répondit : On m'a raconté tout ce que tu as fait pour ta belle mère après la mort de son mari, et comment tu as quitté ton père et ta mère et le lieu de ta naissance, et comment tu es venue chez un peuple qu'auparavant tu ne connaissais pas.
12Que le Seigneur rémunère ta bonne action ; que le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, à qui tu es venue pour t'abriter sous ses ailes, t'accorde un salaire abondant.
13Et elle reprit : Que je trouve, seigneur, grâce devant tes yeux, puisque tu m'as consolée, et que tu as parlé au cœur de ta servante, et je serai comme l'une de tes servantes.
14Et Booz lui dit : Voici le moment de manger, viens ici ; tu mangeras du pain et tu tremperas la bouchée dans le vinaigre. Ruth s'assit donc auprès des moissonneurs, et Booz lui présenta des gâteaux de farine ; elle mangea et elle fut rassasiée, et il lui en resta.
15Ensuite, elle se leva, pour glaner, et Booz donna ses ordres à ses serviteurs, disant : Laissez-la glaner au milieu des Javelles et gardez-vous de la molester.
16En apportant les épis, apportez-en pour elle, et en les jetant à terre, jetez pour elle une part de ce que vous recueillez ; elle glanera, elle mangera, et vous ne lui ferez aucun reproche.
17Et elle glana jusqu'à la nuit, puis elle battit les épis qu'elle avait ramassés, et elle en tira près d'une mesure d'orge.
18Elle l'emporta et elle rentra dans la ville ; sa belle-mère vit ce qu'elle avait recueilli, et Ruth lui donna les restes qu'elle avait rapportés des mets dont elle s'était rassasiée.
19Et sa belle-mère lui dit : Où as-tu glané aujourd'hui, où as-tu travaillé ? Béni soit celui qui t'a accueillie. Et Ruth apprit à sa belle-mère où elle avait travaillé, et elle lui dit : L'homme chez qui j'ai glané aujourd'hui se nomme Booz.
20Et Noémi dit à sa bru : Béni soit-il, au nom du Seigneur, parce que sa miséricorde n'a manqué ni aux vivants, ni aux morts. Et Noémi ajouta : L'homme nous est proche, c'est un de nos parents.
21Et Ruth reprit : C'est sans doute pour cela qu'il m'a dit : Attache-toi aux pas de mes filles jusqu'à ce qu'elles aient achevé toute ma moisson.
22Et Noémi dit à Ruth, sa bru : Bon, mon enfant, si tu marches avec ses filles, on ne te contrariera pas dans un autre champ.
23Ruth s'attacha donc aux pas des filles de Booz pour glaner jusqu'à la fin de la moisson des orges et des froments.

1Y TENÍA Noemi un pariente de su marido, varón poderoso y de hecho, de la familia de Elimelech, el cual se llamaba Booz.
2Y Ruth la Moabita dijo á Noemi: Ruégote que me dejes ir al campo, y cogeré espigas en pos de aquel á cuyos ojos hallare gracia. Y ella le respondió: Ve, hija mía.
3Fué pues, y llegando, espigó en el campo en pos de los segadores: y aconteció por ventura, que la suerte del campo era de Booz, el cual era de la parentela de Elimelech.
4Y he aquí que Booz vino de Beth-lehem, y dijo á los segadores: Jehová sea con vosotros. Y ellos respondieron: Jehová te bendiga.
5Y Booz dijo á su criado el sobrestante de los segadores: ¿Cúya es esta moza?
6Y el criado, sobrestante de los segadores, respondió y dijo: Es la moza de Moab, que volvió con Noemi de los campos de Moab;
7Y ha dicho: Ruégote que me dejes coger y juntar tras los segadores entre las gavillas: entró pues, y está desde por la mañana hasta ahora, menos un poco que se detuvo en casa.
8Entonces Booz dijo á Ruth: Oye, hija mía, no vayas á espigar á otro campo, ni pases de aquí: y aquí estarás con mis mozas.
9Mira bien al campo que segaren, y síguelas: porque yo he mandado á los mozos que no te toquen. Y si tuvieres sed, ve á los vasos, y bebe del agua que sacaren los mozos.
10Ella entonces bajando su rostro inclinóse á tierra, y díjole: ¿Por qué he hallado gracia en tus ojos para que tú me reconozcas, siendo yo extranjera?
11Y respondiendo Booz, díjole: Por cierto se me ha declarado todo lo que has hecho con tu suegra después de la muerte de tu marido, y que dejando á tu padre y á tu madre y la tierra donde naciste, has venido á pueblo que no conociste antes.
12Jehová galardone tu obra, y tu remuneración sea llena por Jehová Dios de Israel, que has venido para cubrirte debajo de sus alas.
13Y ella dijo: Señor mío, halle yo gracia delante de tus ojos; porque me has consolado, y porque has hablado al corazón de tu sierva, no siendo yo como una de tus criadas.
14Y Booz le dijo á la hora de comer: Allégate aquí, y come del pan, y moja tu bocado en el vinagre. Y sentóse ella junto á los segadores, y él le dió del potaje, y comió hasta que se hartó y le sobró.
15Levantóse luego para espigar. Y Booz mandó á sus criados, diciendo: Coja también espigas entre las gavillas, y no la avergoncéis;
16Antes echaréis á sabiendas de los manojos, y la dejaréis que coja, y no la reprendáis.
17Y espigó en el campo hasta la tarde, y desgranó lo que había cogido, y fué como un epha de cebada.
18Y tomólo, y vínose á la ciudad; y su suegra vió lo que había cogido. Sacó también luego lo que le había sobrado después de harta, y dióselo.
19Y díjole su suegra: ¿Dónde has espigado hoy? ¿y dónde has trabajado? bendito sea el que te ha reconocido. Y ella declaró á su suegra lo que le había acontecido con aquél, y dijo: El nombre del varón con quien hoy he trabajado es Booz.
20Y dijo Noemi á su nuera: Sea él bendito de Jehová, pues que no ha rehusado á los vivos la benevolencia que tuvo para con los finados. Díjole después Noemi: Nuestro pariente es aquel varón, y de nuestros redentores es.
21Y Ruth Moabita dijo: A más de esto me ha dicho: Júntate con mis criados, hasta que hayan acabado toda mi siega.
22Y Noemi respondió á Ruth su nuera: Mejor es, hija mía, que salgas con sus criadas, que no que te encuentren en otro campo.
23Estuvo pues junta con las mozas de Booz espigando, hasta que la siega de las cebadas y la de los trigos fué acabada; mas con su suegra habitó.

1And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
3And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
4And, behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.
5Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
6And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
7And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
8Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
9Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
10Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
11And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
12The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
13Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
14And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
15And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
17So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
18And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
19And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man’s name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
20And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
21And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
23So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.

1Naomi had a relative of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.
2Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I find favor.” She said to her, “Go, my daughter.”
3She went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.
4Behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “May the LORD be with you.” They answered him, “May the LORD bless you.”
5Then Boaz said to his servant who was set over the reapers, “Whose young lady is this?”
6The servant who was set over the reapers answered, “It is the Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab.
7She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.”
8Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Don’t go to glean in another field, and don’t go from here, but stay here close to my maidens.
9Let your eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them. Haven’t I commanded the young men not to touch you? When you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from that which the young men have drawn.”
10Then she fell on her face and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your sight, that you should take knowledge of me, since I am a foreigner?”
11Boaz answered her, “I have been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father, your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people that you didn’t know before.
12May the LORD repay your work, and a full reward be given to you from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
13Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord, because you have comforted me, and because you have spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not as one of your servants.”
14At meal time Boaz said to her, “Come here, and eat some bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” She sat beside the reapers, and they passed her parched grain. She ate, was satisfied, and left some of it.
15When she had risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and don’t reproach her.
16Also pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it. Let her glean, and don’t rebuke her.”
17So she gleaned in the field until evening; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
18She took it up, and went into the city. Then her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her that which she had left after she had enough.
19Her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.” She told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”
20Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the LORD, who has not abandoned his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her, “The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen.”
21Ruth the Moabitess said, “Yes, he said to me, ‘You shall stay close to my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’”
22Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, and that they not harm you in any other field.”
23So she stayed close to the maidens of Boaz, to glean to the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she lived with her mother-in-law.
