Romanos 13

1Toda persona esté sujeta a las potestades superiores: Porque no hay potestad que no provenga de Dios; y Dios es el que ha establecido las que hay en el mundo.
2Por lo cual quien desobedece a las potestades, a la ordenación o voluntad de Dios desobedece. Por consiguiente, los que tal hacen, ellos mismos se acarrean la condenación.
3Mas los príncipes o magistrados no son de temer por las buenas obras que se hagan, sino por las malas. ¿Quieres tú no tener que temer nada de aquel que tiene el poder? Pues obra bien; y merecerás de él alabanza:
4Porque el príncipe es un ministro de Dios puesto para tu bien. Pero si obras mal, tiembla; porque no en vano se ciñe la espada, siendo como es ministro de Dios, para ejercer su justicia castigando al que obra mal.
5Por tanto, es necesario que le estéis sujetos, no sólo por temor del castigo, sino también por obligación de conciencia.
6Por esta misma razón les pagáis los tributos; porque son ministros de Dios, a quien en esto mismo sirven.
7Pagad, pues, a todos lo que se les debe; al que se debe tributo, el tributo; al que impuesto, el impuesto; al que temor, temor; al que honra, honra.
8No tengáis otra deuda con nadie, que la del amor que os debéis siempre unos a otros; puesto que quien ama al prójimo, tiene cumplida la ley.
9En efecto, estos mandamientos de Dios: No cometerás adulterio, no matarás, no robarás, no levantarás falso testimonio, no codiciarás nada de los bienes de tu prójimo, y cualquier otro que haya, están recopilados en esta expresión: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
10El amor que se tiene al prójimo no sufre que se le haga daño alguno. Y así el amor es el cumplimiento de la ley.
11Cumplamos, pues, con él, y tanto más que sabemos que el tiempo insta, y que ya es hora de despertarnos de nuestro largo letargo. Pues estamos más cerca de nuestra salud, que cuando recibimos la fe.
12La noche está ya muy avanzada, y va a llegar el día de la eternidad. Dejemos, pues, las sobras de las tinieblas, y revistámonos de las armas de la luz.
13Andemos con decencia y honestidad, como se suele andar durante el día; no en comilonas y borracheras, no en deshonestidades y disoluciones, no en contiendas y envidias;
14mas revestíos de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, y no busquéis cómo contentar los antojos de vuestra sensualidad.

1TODA alma se someta á las potestades superiores; porque no hay potestad sino de Dios; y las que son, de Dios son ordenadas.
2Así que, el que se opone á la potestad, á la ordenación de Dios resiste: y los que resisten, ellos mismos ganan condenación para sí.
3Porque los magistrados no son para temor al que bien hace, sino al malo. ¿Quieres pues no temer la potestad? haz lo bueno, y tendrás alabanza de ella;
4Porque es ministro de Dios para tu bien. Mas si hicieres lo malo, teme: porque no en vano lleva el cuchillo; porque es ministro de Dios, vengador para castigo al que hace lo malo.
5Por lo cual es necesario que le estéis sujetos, no solamente por la ira, mas aun por la conciencia.
6Porque por esto pagáis también los tributos; porque son ministros de Dios que sirven á esto mismo.
7Pagad á todos lo que debéis: al que tributo, tributo; al que pecho, pecho; al que temor, temor; al que honra, honra.
8No debáis á nadie nada, sino amaros unos á otros; porque el que ama al prójimo, cumplió la ley.
9Porque: No adulterarás; no matarás; no hurtarás; no dirás falso testimonio; no codiciarás; y si hay algún otro mandamiento, en esta sentencia se comprende sumariamente: Amarás á tu prójimo como á ti mismo.
10La caridad no hace mal al prójimo: así que, el cumplimento de la ley es la caridad.
11Y esto, conociendo el tiempo, que es ya hora de levantarnos del sueño; porque ahora nos está más cerca nuestra salud que cuando creímos.
12La noche ha pasado, y ha llegado el día: echemos, pues, las obras de las tinieblas, y vistámonos las armas de luz.
13Andemos como de día, honestamente: no en glotonerías y borracheras, no en lechos y disoluciones, no en pedencias y envidia:
14Mas vestíos del Señor Jesucristo, y no hagáis caso de la carne en sus deseos.
King James Version
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
World English Bible
1Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
2Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.
3For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority,
4for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
5Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
6For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing.
7Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
8Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
10Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
11Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
12The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.
13Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
