Salmos 78
Nova Bíblia Viva
1Povo meu, ouça com atenção a minha lei. Abra seus ouvidos para as coisas que eu vou ensinar.
2Com ilustrações eu contarei fatos da história do nosso povo, história muito antiga,
3que nossos pais e avós nos contaram e conhecemos muito bem.
4Vou lhes contar essas coisas para vocês poderem passar adiante a história dos milagres maravilhosos que o Senhor realizou e do seu grande poder, contando aos seus filhos e netos.
5Ele deu suas leis a Jacó para mostrar sua vontade ao povo, e ordenou aos antigos israelitas que ensinassem essas leis aos seus filhos.
6Assim, cada nova geração saberia a vontade do Senhor e ensinaria à geração seguinte,
7para que sempre colocassem a sua confiança em Deus e nunca esquecessem dos seus grandes feitos, obedecendo fielmente os mandamentos do Senhor.
8Assim, eles não serão como os seus antepassados, rebeldes e teimosos, infiéis a Deus por causa do seu coração sem fé!
9Os soldados de Efraim, embora estivessem bem armados, bateram em retirada no dia da batalha.
10Eles não cumpriram a aliança que tinham feito com Deus, e desobedeceram à sua lei.
11Esqueceram os grandes feitos de Deus e os maravilhosos milagres que ele fez diante do povo de Israel.
12Ele fez maravilhas diante dos seus antepassados, na terra do Egito, no campo de Zoã.
13Depois, dividiu as águas do mar para os israelitas passarem. As águas ficaram paradas, como numa represa.
14Durante o dia ele guiava o povo com uma nuvem, e à noite com uma coluna de fogo.
15No deserto, abriu as rochas e deu ao povo muita água para beber, como se a água brotasse de uma fonte.
16Da rocha quente do deserto ele fez correr verdadeiros rios de água.
17Apesar de tudo isso, eles continuaram a desobedecer, revoltando-se no deserto contra o Altíssimo.
18Em seus corações eles deliberadamente colocaram Deus à prova, reclamando do maná e pedindo comida de que gostavam.
19Reclamaram contra Deus, resmungando: “Será que Deus é capaz de nos dar uma comida gostosa aqui no meio do deserto?
20Sabemos que ele já nos deu água, fontes que brotaram em grandes quantidades das pedras; agora queremos ver se ele pode nos dar pão e carne também”.
21Quando o Senhor ouviu isso, se enfureceu. Castigou os rebeldes mandando fogo do céu, e mostrou a sua ira contra Israel,
22porque os israelitas não creram nele, nem confiaram em Deus como seu Salvador na hora da dificuldade.
23Apesar disso, ele deu ordens às nuvens e abriu as janelas do céu,
24fazendo chover maná sobre os israelitas! Assim, Deus deu a eles pão do céu para comer!
25Os israelitas comeram pão dos anjos, até não aguentarem mais.
26Com seu grande poder, Deus enviou dos céus o vento oriental e fez avançar o vento sul.
27Fez cair carne sobre o povo como pó, bandos de aves como a areia do mar!
28As aves caíram junto às tendas do povo, por todo o acampamento!
29Então todos comeram à vontade toda a carne que queriam, porque Deus tinha atendido aos seus pedidos.
30Mas antes de ficarem satisfeitos, enquanto ainda estavam comendo,
31acendeu-se a ira de Deus; ele mandou seu castigo, e alguns dos homens mais fortes de Israel morreram, os melhores jovens de Israel.
32Ainda assim, o povo continuou pecando, não crendo em Deus.
33Como castigo, ele encurtou a vida daquela geração e deu aos israelitas muitos sofrimentos.
34Quando Deus castigava o povo com pragas e morte, eles se aproximavam dele arrependidos.
35Lembravam-se de que Deus era a sua Rocha, de que o Deus Altíssimo era o seu Salvador.
36Mas essa adoração era da boca para fora procurando enganar a Deus;
37seus corações não pertenciam completamente a Deus, e eles não cumpriam a aliança feita com o Senhor.
38No entanto, Deus foi compassivo e perdoou os pecados do povo em vez de destruí-lo. Várias vezes ele conteve a sua ira e o seu furor,
39pois lembrava que eram homens, meros homens mortais, cuja vida some num instante como a brisa passageira que não retorna.
40Quantas e quantas vezes eles se revoltaram contra Deus no deserto, abusando da sua paciência naquela terra seca e vazia!
41Repetidas vezes eles puseram Deus à prova e impediram que o Santo de Israel mostrasse toda a sua grandeza.
42Eles se esqueciam do grande poder de Deus, da forma como livrou o seu povo do inimigo opressor.
43Esqueceram-se dos milagres que ele fez no Egito, das grandes maravilhas realizadas na região de Zoã.
44Quando transformou em sangue as águas dos rios do Egito, não havendo água para os egípcios beberem;
45e enviou enxames de moscas que os devoravam, e rãs que invadiram todo o país e causaram grande destruição;
46quando entregou as colheitas às lagartas e o fruto do seu trabalho aos gafanhotos,
47e destruiu as plantações de uvas pela chuva de pedras e suas figueiras com geadas;
48durante as tempestades, as pedras e os raios mataram muitos animais dos rebanhos egípcios.
49Deus lançou contra os egípcios todo o furor da sua ira, com o seu castigo, violência e grandes desgraças, com muitos anjos destruidores.
50Não parou com a sua ira, não evitou a morte dos egípcios e mandou pragas e pestes contra aquela terra.
51Finalmente, matou o filho mais velho de todas as famílias do Egito, que eram a força e a alegria dos lares egípcios.
52Levou seu povo para fora do Egito, como um pastor guiando suas ovelhas; conduziu Israel através do deserto.
53Guiou o povo em paz e segurança e assim Israel não teve medo; seus inimigos, porém, foram afogados no mar.
54Deus levou o povo até a fronteira da sua terra santa, para as montanhas que ele criou com seu poder.
55De lá expulsou outras nações, bem diante dos olhos deles. Distribuiu a cada tribo as terras por herança e deixou que os israelitas habitassem em suas tendas.
56Mas apesar de todas essas bênçãos, continuaram a ser rebeldes e desobedientes a Deus; abusaram da paciência do Altíssimo, deixando de cumprir a sua vontade.
57Cometeram os mesmos pecados da geração anterior; desviaram-se do caminho certo como um arco defeituoso, cujas flechas nunca acertam o alvo.
58Eles o provocaram, construindo altares pagãos e adorando imagens de falsos deuses, no alto dos morros.
59Sabendo-o Deus, enfureceu-se com o povo de Israel; cansado de tanta desobediência, rejeitou seu povo completamente.
60Por isso, abandonou o Tabernáculo de Siló, o lugar que era a sua casa entre os homens,
61e deixou que a arca da aliança, o símbolo da glória e poder de Deus, fosse conquistada pelos inimigos de Israel.
62Deixou os israelitas morrerem à espada, porque enfureceu-se com o seu povo escolhido.
63Os jovens israelitas morreram queimados, e as moças não tiveram canções de núpcias.
64Os sacerdotes foram mortos à espada, e as viúvas nem podiam chorar.
65Então o Senhor se levantou, como de um sono, como um guerreiro valente despertado do domínio do vinho.
66Com golpes poderosos obrigou os inimigos a recuar, envergonhando-os para sempre.
67Ele rejeitou a tribo de José, não escolheu a tribo de Efraim.
68Em seu lugar, escolheu a tribo de Judá e o monte Sião, o qual amou.
69Ali ele construiu o seu templo, alto e firme como a terra, eterno como os céus.
70Escolheu o seu servo Davi, que antes era pastor de ovelhas.
71Tirou-o do pastoreio das ovelhas para ser o pastor de Jacó, o seu povo, de Israel, sua herança.
72Davi guiou o povo com um coração sincero e atos de sabedoria.

1Masquil de Asaph. ESCUCHA, pueblo mío, mi ley: inclinad vuestro oído á las palabras de mi boca.
2Abriré mi boca en parábola; hablaré cosas reservadas de antiguo:
3Las cuales hemos oído y entendido; que nuestros padres nos las contaron.
4No las encubriremos á sus hijos, contando á la generación venidera las alabanzas de Jehová, y su fortaleza, y sus maravillas que hizo.
5El estableció testimonio en Jacob, y pusó ley en Israel; la cual mandó á nuestros padres que la notificasen á sus hijos;
6Para que lo sepa la generación venidera, y los hijos que nacerán; y los que se levantarán, lo cuenten á sus hijos;
7A fin de que pongan en Dios su confianza, y no se olviden de las obras de Dios, y guarden sus mandamientos:
8Y no sean como sus padres, generación contumaz y rebelde; generación que no apercibió su corazón, ni fué fiel para con Dios su espíritu.
9Los hijos de Ephraim armados, flecheros, volvieron las espaldas el día de la batalla.
10No guardaron el pacto de Dios, ni quisieron andar en su ley:
11Antes se olvidaron de sus obras, y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado.
12Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.
13Rompió la mar, é hízolos pasar; é hizo estar las aguas como en un montón.
14Y llevólos de día con nube, y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego.
15Hendió las peñas en el desierto: y dióles á beber como de grandes abismos;
16Pues sacó de la peña corrientes, é hizo descender aguas como ríos.
17Empero aun tornaron á pecar contra él, enojando en la soledad al Altísimo.
18Pues tentaron á Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida á su gusto.
19Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: ¿Podrá poner mesa en el desierto?
20He aquí ha herido la peña, y corrieron aguas, y arroyos salieron ondeando: ¿podrá también dar pan? ¿aparejará carne á su pueblo?
21Por tanto oyó Jehová, é indignóse: y encendióse el fuego contra Jacob, y el furor subió también contra Israel;
22Por cuanto no habían creído á Dios, ni habían confiado en su salud:
23A pesar de que mandó á las nubes de arriba, y abrió las puertas de los cielos,
24E hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, y dióles trigo de los cielos.
25Pan de nobles comió el hombre: envióles comida á hartura.
26Movió el solano en el cielo, y trajo con su fortaleza el austro.
27E hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo, y aves de alas como arena de la mar.
28E hízolas caer en medio de su campo, alrededor de sus tiendas.
29Y comieron, y hartáronse mucho: cumplióles pues su deseo.
30No habían quitado de sí su deseo, aun estaba su vianda en su boca,
31Cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, y mató los más robustos de ellos, y derribó los escogidos de Israel.
32Con todo esto pecaron aún, y no dieron crédito á sus maravillas.
33Consumió por tanto en nada sus días, y sus años en la tribulación.
34Si los mataba, entonces buscaban á Dios; entonces se volvían solícitos en busca suya.
35Y acordábanse que Dios era su refugio, y el Dios Alto su redentor.
36Mas le lisonjeaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían:
37Pues sus corazones no eran rectos con él, ni estuvieron firmes en su pacto.
38Empero él misericordioso, perdonaba la maldad, y no los destruía: y abundó para apartar su ira, y no despertó todo su enojo.
39Y acordóse que eran carne; soplo que va y no vuelve.
40¡Cuántas veces lo ensañaron en el desierto, lo enojaron en la soledad!
41Y volvían, y tentaban á Dios, y ponían límite al Santo de Israel.
42No se acordaron de su mano, del día que los redimió de angustia;
43Cuando puso en Egipto sus señales, y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán;
44Y volvió sus ríos en sangre, y sus corrientes, porque no bebiesen.
45Envió entre ellos una mistura de moscas que los comían, y ranas que los destruyeron.
46Dió también al pulgón sus frutos, y sus trabajos á la langosta.
47Sus viñas destruyó con granizo, y sus higuerales con piedra;
48Y entregó al pedrisco sus bestias, y al fuego sus ganados.
49Envió sobre ellos el furor de su saña, ira y enojo y angustia, con misión de malos ángeles.
50Dispuso el camino á su furor; no eximió la vida de ellos de la muerte, sino que entregó su vida á la mortandad.
51E hirió á todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias de las fuerzas en las tiendas de Châm.
52Empero hizo salir á su pueblo como ovejas, y llevólos por el desierto, como un rebaño.
53Y guiólos con seguridad, que no tuvieron miedo; y la mar cubrió á sus enemigos.
54Metiólos después en los términos de su santuario, en este monte que ganó su mano derecha.
55Y echó las gentes de delante de ellos, y repartióles una herencia con cuerdas; é hizo habitar en sus moradas á las tribus de Israel.
56Mas tentaron y enojaron al Dios Altísimo, y no guardaron sus testimonios;
57Sino que se volvieron, y se rebelaron como sus padres: volviéronse como arco engañoso.
58Y enojáronlo con sus altos, y provocáronlo á celo con sus esculturas.
59Oyólo Dios, y enojóse, y en gran manera aborreció á Israel.
60Dejó por tanto el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda en que habitó entre los hombres;
61Y dió en cautividad su fortaleza, y su gloria en mano del enemigo.
62Entregó también su pueblo á cuchillo, y airóse contra su heredad.
63El fuego devoró sus mancebos, y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas en cantos nupciales.
64Sus sacerdotes cayeron á cuchillo, y sus viudas no lamentaron.
65Entonces despertó el Señor á la manera del que ha dormido, como un valiente que grita excitado del vino:
66E hirió á sus enemigos en las partes posteriores: dióles perpetua afrenta.
67Y desechó el tabernáculo de José, y no escogió la tribu de Ephraim;
68Sino que escogió la tribu de Judá, el monte de Sión, al cual amó.
69Y edificó su santuario á manera de eminencia, como la tierra que cimentó para siempre.
70Y eligió á David su siervo, y tomólo de las majadas de las ovejas:
71De tras las paridas lo trajo, para que apacentase á Jacob su pueblo, y á Israel su heredad.
72Y apacentólos con entereza de su corazón; y pastoreólos con la pericia de sus manos.

1Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
5For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
7That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
9The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
11And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
12Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
14In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
15He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
16He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
18And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
19Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
22Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full.
26He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
32For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:
44And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
45He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
47He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.
48He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.
50He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
51And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
52But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.
55He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
57But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
58For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
59When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
60So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
61And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.
62He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
63The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
66And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
70He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
72So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
World English Bible
1Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.
2I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,
3which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.
5For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
6that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,
7that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,
8and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
9The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.
11They forgot his doings, his wondrous deeds that he had shown them.
12He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.
14In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.
15He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.

17Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.
18They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.
19Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
20Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”
21Therefore the LORD heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,
22because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.
23Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.
24He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.
25Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.
26He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.
27He also rained meat on them as the dust, winged birds as the sand of the seas.
28He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.
29So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.
30They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
31when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their strongest, and struck down the young men of Israel.
32For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.
33Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
34When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
35They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
36But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
38But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.
39He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.
40How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!
41They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
42They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;
43how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,
44he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.
45He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46He also gave their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.
47He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.
48He also gave over their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.
50He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,
51and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.
52But he led out his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.
55He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
56Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,
57but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were twisted like a deceitful bow.
58For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.
59When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel,
60so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,
61and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.
62He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
63Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
64Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.
65Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.
66He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.
67Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.
69He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.
70He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;
71from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.
