Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

Ob des Übermuts der Gottlosen muß der Elende sich ängstigen; möchten sie ergriffen werden in den Ränken, die sie ausgedacht haben!
Con arrogancia el malo persigue al pobre: serán cogidos en los artificios que han ideado.
The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

Denn der Gottlose lobsingt und thut dabei, was ihn gelüstet, und der Habgierige preist und lästert zugleich Jahwe.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

Der Gottlose wähnt in seinem Hochmut: “Er ahndet nicht!” “Es giebt keinen Gott” - dahin gehen alle seine Gedanken.
El malo, por la altivez de su rostro, no busca á Dios: no hay Dios en todos sus pensamientos.
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

Er wird niedergeschlagen, sinkt dahin; durch seine Stärke fallen die Unglücklichen.
Encógese, agáchase, y caen en sus fuerzas muchos desdichados.
He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under his strength.
Er denkt in seinem Sinne: Gott vergißt es; er hat sein Angesicht verborgen, er sieht es nimmermehr!
Dice en su corazón: Dios está olvidado, ha encubierto su rostro; nunca lo verá.
He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

Auf, Jahwe! Gott, erhebe deine Hand! Vergiß die Elenden nicht!
Levántate, oh Jehová Dios, alza tu mano, no te olvides de los pobres.

Warum lästert der Gottlose Gott, denkt in seinem Sinne: Du ahndest nicht?
¿Por qué irrita el malo á Dios? En su corazón ha dicho que no lo inquirirás.
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
Why does the wicked person condemn God, and say in his heart, “God won’t call me into account”?
Du hast es wohl gesehen! Denn du achtest auf Leid und Kummer, um sie in deine Hand zu nehmen. Dir überläßt es der Unglückliche; dem Verwaisten wurdest du ein Helfer!
Tú lo tienes visto: porque tú miras el trabajo, y la vejación, para vengarle por tu mano: á ti se acoge el pobre, tú eres el amparo del huérfano.
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.
Zerbrich den Arm des Gottlosen! Und der Böse - ahnde seinen Frevel! Solltest du ihn nicht finden?
Quebranta el brazo del malo: del maligno buscarás su maldad, hasta que ninguna halles.
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

daß du den Verwaisten und Unterdrückten Recht schaffest. Nicht sollen fortan Menschen von der Erde trotzen!
Para juzgar al huérfano y al pobre, á fin de que no vuelva más á hacer violencia el hombre de la tierra.
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
