1Und der Herr redete mit Moses in Moabs Steppen am Jordan bei Jericho:
2"Befiehl den Söhnen Israels, daß sie von ihrem Besitze den Leviten Städte zum Siedeln geben! Auch die Weidetrift rings um die Städte sollt ihr den Leviten geben!
3Die Städte seien ihnen zum Besiedeln, die Weidetriften aber seien für ihr Vieh, ihre Habe und all ihren Lebensbedarf!
4Der Städte Weidetriften, die ihr den Leviten geben sollt, seien ringsum tausend Ellen weit von der Stadtmauer!
5Meßt außerhalb der Stadt zweitausend Ellen auf der Ostseite ab, desgleichen südlich, westlich, nördlich, so daß die Stadt in die Mitte kommt! Das soll ihnen Weidetrift bei den Städten sein!
6Und den Städten, die ihr den Leviten geben sollt, sechs Freistädten, die ihr abtretet, daß der Totschläger dahin fliehe, sollt ihr noch zweiundvierzig andere hinzufügen!
7All der Städte, die ihr den Leviten gebt, sind es achtundvierzig samt den Weidetriften.
8Die Zahl der Städte, die ihr vom Besitz der Söhne Israels abtretet, sollt ihr bei den Größeren größer bemessen und bei den kleineren kleiner! Jeder soll entsprechend dem Besitz einige seiner Städte den Leviten geben!"
9Und der Herr sprach zu Moses:
10"Sag den Söhnen Israels und sprich zu ihnen: 'Wenn ihr, den Jordan überschreitend, in das Land Kanaan kommt,
11dann wählt Städte, die euch so gelegen sind, daß sie euch Freistädte seien! Dorthin fliehe jeder Totschläger und jeder, der einen Menschen unvorsätzlich erschlagen hat!
12Die Städte seien euch Zuflucht vor Bluträchern, daß nicht der Totschläger den Tod leide, bis er vor der Gemeinde zum Gericht gestanden!
13Der Städte, die ihr dazu hergebt, seien es sechs! Sie sollen euch Freistädte sein!
14Drei der Städte sollt ihr über dem Jordan abtreten und drei Städte im Lande Kanaan! Freistädte seien es!
15Den Söhnen Israels sowie dem Gast und dem Beisassen bei euch sollen die sechs Städte eine Zuflucht sein, daß jeder dorthin fliehe, der unvorsätzlich einen Menschen erschlagen!
16Hat er ihn aber mit einem eisernen Gerät geschlagen, daß er starb, dann ist er ein Mörder. Der Mörder leide den Tod!
17Und hat er ihn mit einem handlichen Steine getroffen, wodurch jemand sterben kann, und er starb, dann ist er ein Mörder. Der Mörder leide den Tod!
18Und hat er ihn mit einem handlichen Holzgerät getroffen, wodurch jemand sterben kann, und er starb, dann ist er ein Mörder. Der Mörder leide den Tod!
19Der Bluträcher soll selber den Mörder töten! Wo er auf ihn trifft, soll er ihn töten!
20Und hat dieser jemandem aus Haß einen Stoß gegeben, oder hat er nach ihm hinterlistig geworfen, daß er starb,
21oder hat er ihn aus Feindschaft mit der Hand niedergeschlagen, daß er starb, dann leide der, der ihn geschlagen, den Tod! Er ist ein Mörder. Der Bluträcher soll den Mörder töten, wo er ihn trifft!
22Hat er von ungefähr jemanden gestoßen, ohne Feindschaft, oder hat er irgendein Gerät auf ihn geworfen, ohne daß er zielte,
23oder hat er irgendeinen Stein, wodurch einer sterben kann, unversehens auf ihn fallen lassen, daß er starb, ist ihm aber kein Feind gewesen und hat ihm nichts Böses tun wollen,
24dann richte die Gemeinde zwischen dem Totschläger und dem Bluträcher nach diesen Satzungen!
25Den Totschläger beschütze die Gemeinde vor der Hand des Bluträchers! Die Gemeinde bringe ihn in seine Zufluchtsstadt, in die er fliehen will! Er bleibe dort bis zum Tode des Hohenpriesters, den man mit heiligem Öl gesalbt hat!
26Verläßt aber der Totschläger die Gemarkung seiner Zufluchtsstadt, in die er sich gerichtet,
27und trifft ihn der Bluträcher außerhalb der Gemarkung seiner Zufluchtsstadt und tötet der Bluträcher den Totschläger, dann ist kein Mord an ihm verübt worden.
28Er soll ja bis zum Tode des Hohenpriesters in der Zufluchtsstadt verbleiben! Doch nach des Hohenpriesters Tod darf der Totschläger zu seines Besitzes Boden zurückkehren.
29Dies sei euch Rechtssatzung für eure Geschlechter in allen euren Siedlungen!
30Wenn jemand einen Menschen umbringt, so soll man den Mörder nach dem Mund von Zeugen hinrichten! Ein einziger Zeuge aber soll nicht aussagen gegen jemand, daß er sterbe!
31Ihr sollt kein Lösegeld für das Leben eines Mörders annehmen, der des Todes schuldig ist! Er muß den Tod leiden.
32Ihr sollt auch keine Gegengabe dafür nehmen, daß einer in seine Zufluchtsstadt flieht und dann heimkehrt, bevor der Priester gestorben ist!
33Ihr dürft das Land, in dem ihr wohnt, nicht entweihen. Denn Blut entweiht das Land. Sühne wird dem Land für das darin vergossene Blut nur durch das Blut dessen, der es vergossen hat.
34Ihr sollt also nicht das Land unrein machen, in dem ihr siedelt, weil auch ich darin wohne! Denn ich, der Herr, wohne mitten unter Israels Söhnen.'"

1Y HABLÓ Jehová á Moisés en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán de Jericó, diciendo:
2Manda á los hijos de Israel, que den á los Levitas de la posesión de su heredad ciudades en que habiten: también daréis á los Levitas los ejidos de esas ciudades alrededor de ellas.
3Y tendrán ellos las ciudades para habitar, y los ejidos de ellas serán para sus animales, y para sus ganados, y para todas sus bestias.
4Y los ejidos de las ciudades que daréis á los Levitas, serán mil codos alrededor, desde el muro de la ciudad para afuera.
5Luego mediréis fuera de la ciudad á la parte del oriente dos mil codos, y á la parte del mediodía dos mil codos, y á la parte del occidente dos mil codos, y á la parte del norte dos mil codos, y la ciudad en medio: esto tendrán por los ejidos de las ciudades.
6Y de las ciudades que daréis á los Levitas, seis ciudades serán de acogimiento, las cuales daréis para que el homicida se acoja allá: y además de éstas daréis cuarenta y dos ciudades.
7Todas las ciudades que daréis á los Levitas serán cuarenta y ocho ciudades; ellas con sus ejidos.
8Y las ciudades que diereis de la heredad de los hijos de Israel, del que mucho tomaréis mucho, y del que poco tomaréis poco: cada uno dará de sus ciudades á los Levitas según la posesión que heredará.
9Y habló Jehová á Moisés, diciendo:
10Habla á los hijos de Israel, y diles: Cuando hubiereis pasado el Jordán á la tierra de Canaán,
11Os señalaréis ciudades, ciudades de acogimiento tendréis, donde huya el homicida que hiriere á alguno de muerte por yerro.
12Y os serán aquellas ciudades por acogimiento del pariente, y no morirá el homicida hasta que esté á juicio delante de la congregación.
13De las ciudades, pues, que daréis, tendréis seis ciudades de acogimiento.
14Tres ciudades daréis de esta parte del Jordán, y tres ciudades daréis en la tierra de Canaán; las cuales serán ciudades de acogimiento.
15Estas seis ciudades serán para acogimiento á los hijos de Israel, y al peregrino, y al que morare entre ellos, para que huya allá cualquiera que hiriere de muerte á otro por yerro.
16Y si con instrumento de hierro lo hiriere y muriere, homicida es; el homicida morirá:
17Y si con piedra de mano, de que pueda morir, lo hiriere, y muriere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.
18Y si con instrumento de palo de mano, de que pueda morir, lo hiriere, y muriere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.
19El pariente del muerto, él matará al homicida: cuando lo encontrare, él le matará.
20Y si por odio lo empujó, ó echó sobre él alguna cosa por asechanzas, y muere;
21O por enemistad lo hirió con su mano, y murió: el heridor morirá; es homicida; el pariente del muerto matará al homicida, cuando lo encontrare.
22Mas si casualmente lo empujó sin enemistades, ó echó sobre él cualquier instrumento sin asechanzas,
23O bien, sin verlo, hizo caer sobre él alguna piedra, de que pudo morir, y muriere, y él no era su enemigo, ni procuraba su mal;
24Entonces la congregación juzgará entre el heridor y el pariente del muerto conforme á estas leyes:
25Y la congregación librará al homicida de mano del pariente del muerto, y la congregación lo hará volver á su ciudad de acogimiento, á la cual se había acogido; y morará en ella hasta que muera el gran sacerdote, el cual fué ungido con el aceite santo.
26Y si el homicida saliere fuera del término de su ciudad de refugio, á la cual se acogió,
27Y el pariente del muerto le hallare fuera del término de la ciudad de su acogida, y el pariente del muerto al homicida matare, no se le culpará por ello:
28Pues en su ciudad de refugio deberá aquél habitar hasta que muera el gran sacerdote: y después que muriere el gran sacerdote, el homicida volverá á la tierra de su posesión.
29Y estas cosas os serán por ordenanza de derecho por vuestras edades, en todas vuestras habitaciones.
30Cualquiera que hiriere á alguno, por dicho de testigos, morirá el homicida: mas un solo testigo no hará fe contra alguna persona para que muera.
31Y no tomaréis precio por la vida del homicida; porque está condenado á muerte: mas indefectiblemente morirá.
32Ni tampoco tomaréis precio del que huyó á su ciudad de refugio, para que vuelva á vivir en su tierra, hasta que muera el sacerdote.
33Y no contaminaréis la tierra donde estuviereis: porque esta sangre amancillará la tierra: y la tierra no será expiada de la sangre que fué derramada en ella, sino por la sangre del que la derramó.
34No contaminéis, pues, la tierra donde habitáis, en medio de la cual yo habito; porque yo Jehová habito en medio de los hijos de Israel.

1And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
2Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
3And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
4And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
5And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.
6And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.
7So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.
8And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.
9And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
10Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;
11Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.
12And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
13And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.
14Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.
15These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.
16And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
17And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
18Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
19The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
20But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
21Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
22But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,
23Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:
24Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
25And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.
26But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;
27And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
28Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
29So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
30Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.
31Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.
32And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
33So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
34Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
World English Bible
1The LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,
2“Command the children of Israel to give to the Levites cities to dwell in out of their inheritance. You shall give pasture lands for the cities around them to the Levites.
3They shall have the cities to dwell in. Their pasture lands shall be for their livestock, and for their possessions, and for all their animals.
4“The pasture lands of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward one thousand cubits around it.
5You shall measure outside of the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall be the pasture lands of their cities.
6“The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the man slayer to flee to. Besides them you shall give forty-two cities.
7All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities together with their pasture lands.
8Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many, and from the few you shall take few. Everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give some of his cities to the Levites.”
9The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
10“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
11then you shall appoint for yourselves cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the man slayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.
12The cities shall be for your refuge from the avenger, that the man slayer not die until he stands before the congregation for judgment.
13The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.
14You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan. They shall be cities of refuge.
15These six cities shall be refuge for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and for the foreigner living among them, that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.
16“‘But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.
17If he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.

22“‘But if he shoved him suddenly without hostility, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,
23or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him so that he died, and he was not his enemy and not seeking his harm,
24then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances.
25The congregation shall deliver the man slayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he had fled. He shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
26“‘But if the man slayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge where he flees,
27and the avenger of blood finds him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the man slayer, he shall not be guilty of blood,
28because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest, the man slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
29“‘These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
30“‘Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain based on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify alone against any person so that he dies.
31“‘Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death. He shall surely be put to death.
32“‘You shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.
33“‘So you shall not pollute the land where you live; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.
34You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, where I dwell; for I, the LORD, dwell among the children of Israel.’”
