Un día Coré (hijo de Izhar, nieto de Coat y descendiente de Leví) conspiró con Datán y Abirán (hijos de Eliab), y con On (hijo de Pélet). La intención de los tres, que por cierto pertenecían a la tribu de Rubén,
Y CORÉ, hijo de Ishar, hijo de Coath, hijo de Leví; y Dathán y Abiram, hijos de Eliab; y Hon, hijo de Peleth, de los hijos de Rubén, tomaron gente,
Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

era incitar al pueblo a una rebelión contra Moisés. En dicha rebelión participaron doscientos cincuenta varones, todos miembros principales del consejo y personas de renombre en el pueblo.
Y levantáronse contra Moisés con doscientos y cincuenta varones de los hijos de Israel, príncipes de la congregación, de los del consejo, varones de nombre;
And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

Se presentaron delante de Moisés y Aarón y les dijeron: ―Ya los hemos soportado bastante. Ustedes no son mejores que los demás. Todo israelita es un escogido del Señor, y él está con nosotros: ¿Qué derecho tienen ustedes de ponerse en puestos de mando y de demandar que les obedezcamos, y de actuar como si fueran superiores a los demás israelitas?
Y se juntaron contra Moisés y Aarón, y les dijeron: Básteos, porque toda la congregación, todos ellos son santos, y en medio de ellos está Jehová: ¿por qué, pues, os levantáis vosotros sobre la congregación de Jehová?
And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?
They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, “You take too much on yourself, since all the congregation are holy, everyone of them, and the LORD is among them! Why do you lift yourselves up above the LORD’s assembly?”
Cuando Moisés oyó aquello se postró rostro en tierra,
Y como lo oyó Moisés, echóse sobre su rostro;
And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

y dijo a Coré y a los que estaban con él: ―Mañana el Señor mostrará quiénes son los suyos, quién es santo y a quién ha escogido como sacerdote.
Y habló á Coré y á todo su séquito, diciendo: Mañana mostrará Jehová quién es suyo, y al santo harálo llegar á sí; y al que él escogiere, él lo allegará á sí.
And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
He said to Korah and to all his company, “In the morning, the LORD will show who are his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to him. Even him whom he shall choose, he will cause to come near to him.
Hagan esto: Coré, tú y todos los que están contigo tomen incensarios mañana,
Haced esto: tomaos incensarios, Coré y todo su séquito:
This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;
Do this: have Korah and all his company take censers,
enciéndanlos y pongan incienso en ellos delante del Señor, y así sabremos a quién ha escogido el Señor. Ustedes, hijos de Leví, son los presuntuosos.
Y poned fuego en ellos, y poned en ellos sahumerio delante de Jehová mañana; y será que el varón á quien Jehová escogiere, aquél será el santo: básteos esto, hijos de Leví.
And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

Luego Moisés añadió:
Dijo más Moisés á Coré: Oid ahora, hijos de Leví:
And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:
Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi!
―¿Te parece poco, Coré, que el Dios de Israel te haya escogido de entre todo el pueblo de Israel para estar junto a él mientras haces tus trabajos en el santuario del Señor, y que puedas presentarte delante del pueblo para ministrar en su favor?
¿Os es poco que el Dios de Israel os haya apartado de la congregación de Israel, haciéndoos allegar á sí para que ministraseis en el servicio del tabernáculo de Jehová, y estuvieseis delante de la congregación para ministrarles?
Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the LORD’s tabernacle, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;
¿Es poco para ti que él haya dado esta tarea exclusivamente a ustedes los levitas? ¿Y ahora quieren también el sacerdocio?
¿Y que te hizo acercar á ti, y á todos tus hermanos los hijos de Leví contigo; para que procuréis también el sacerdocio?
And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
and that he has brought you near, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? Do you seek the priesthood also?
Esto es lo que realmente están buscando. Por eso es que se rebelan en contra del Señor. ¿Y qué ha hecho Aarón para que estén disconformes con él?
Por tanto, tú y todo tu séquito sois los que os juntáis contra Jehová: pues Aarón, ¿qué es para que contra él murmuréis?
For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?
Therefore you and all your company have gathered together against the LORD! What is Aaron that you complain against him?”
Entonces Moisés llamó a Datán y a Abirán (los hijos de Eliab), pero ellos se negaron a acudir:
Y envió Moisés á llamar á Dathán y Abiram, hijos de Eliab; mas ellos respondieron: No iremos allá:
And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

―¿Es poco —dijeron burlonamente— que nos haya sacado de Egipto, tierra que fluye leche y miel, para hacernos morir en este desierto terrible? ¡Y ahora quieres convertirte en nuestro rey!
¿Es poco que nos hayas hecho venir de una tierra que destila leche y miel, para hacernos morir en el desierto, sino que también te enseñorees de nosotros imperiosamente?
Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?
Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must also make yourself a prince over us?
Y por si eso fuera poco, no nos has hecho entrar en el país maravilloso que prometiste, ni nos has dado campos y viñas. ¿A quién estas tratando de engañar? No queremos ir.
Ni tampoco nos has metido tú en tierra que fluya leche y miel, ni nos has dado heredades de tierras y viñas: ¿has de arrancar los ojos de estos hombres? No subiremos.
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

Entonces Moisés se airó y le dijo al Señor: ―No aceptes sus sacrificios. Ni aun un burro he tomado de ellos, ni les he causado daño alguno.
Entonces Moisés se enojó en gran manera, y dijo á Jehová: No mires á su presente: ni aun un asno he tomado de ellos, ni á ninguno de ellos he hecho mal.
And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, “Don’t respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.”
Y Moisés le dijo a Coré: ―Preséntate mañana delante del Señor con todos tus amigos. Aarón también estará aquí.
Después dijo Moisés á Coré: Tú y todo tu séquito, poneos mañana delante de Jehová; tú, y ellos, y Aarón:
And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:
Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company go before the LORD, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow.
Traigan incensarios con incienso. Un incensario para cada hombre, doscientos cincuenta en total. También Aarón estará aquí con el suyo.
Y tomad cada uno su incensario, y poned sahumerio en ellos, y allegad delante de Jehová cada uno su incensario: doscientos y cincuenta incensarios: tú también, y Aarón, cada uno con su incensario.
And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.
Each man take his censer and put incense on it, and each man bring before the LORD his censer, two hundred fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each with his censer.”
Y así lo hicieron. Acudieron con sus incensarios, los encendieron; pusieron incienso en ellos y estuvieron a la entrada del santuario con Moisés y Aarón.
Y tomaron cada uno su incensario, y pusieron en ellos fuego, y echaron en ellos sahumerio, y pusiéronse á la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio con Moisés y Aarón.
And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
They each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and stood at the door of the Tent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.
Mientras tanto, Coré había incitado a toda la nación contra Moisés y Aarón, y todos se reunieron a observar. Entonces la gloria del Señor apareció ante todo el pueblo,
Ya Coré había hecho juntar contra ellos toda la congregación á la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio: entonces la gloria de Jehová apareció á toda la congregación.
And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.
Korah assembled all the congregation opposite them to the door of the Tent of Meeting. The LORD’s glory appeared to all the congregation.
y el Señor les dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:
Y Jehová habló á Moisés y á Aarón, diciendo:
And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
―Apártense de este pueblo, que voy a destruirlo inmediatamente.
Apartaos de entre esta congregación, y consumirlos he en un momento.
Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!”
Pero Moisés y Aarón se postraron en tierra, delante del Señor: ―Oh Dios, Dios de toda la humanidad, ¿has de enojarte con toda el pueblo cuando es un solo hombre el que ha pecado?
Y ellos se echaron sobre sus rostros, y dijeron: Dios, Dios de los espíritus de toda carne, ¿no es un hombre el que pecó? ¿y airarte has tú contra toda la congregación?
And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?
They fell on their faces, and said, “God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”
Y el Señor le dijo a Moisés:
Entonces Jehová habló á Moisés, diciendo:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
―Entonces dile al pueblo que se aparte de las tiendas de Coré, Datán y Abirán.
Habla á la congregación, diciendo: Apartaos de en derredor de la tienda de Coré, Dathán, y Abiram.
Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
“Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from around the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram!’”
Moisés corrió a las tiendas de Datán y Abirán seguido muy de cerca por los doscientos cincuenta jefes israelitas.
Y Moisés se levantó, y fué á Dathán y á Abiram; y los ancianos de Israel fueron en pos de él.
And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

―Vamos, rápido —le dijo al pueblo—, apártense de las tiendas de estos hombres inicuos, y no toquen nada que pertenezca a ellos, o serán ustedes incluidos en su pecado y serán destruidos con ellos.
Y él habló á la congregación, diciendo: Apartaos ahora de las tiendas de estos impíos hombres, y no toquéis ninguna cosa suya, por que no perezcáis en todos sus pecados.
And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
He spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins!”
Entonces todo el pueblo se apartó de las tiendas de Coré, Datán y Abirán. Datán y Abirán salieron y se pusieron a la puerta de sus tiendas con sus esposas, hijos e hijas.
Y apartáronse de las tiendas de Coré, de Dathán, y de Abiram en derredor: y Dathán y Abiram salieron y pusiéronse á las puertas de sus tiendas, con sus mujeres, y sus hijos, y sus chiquitos.
So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
So they went away from the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side. Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents with their wives, their sons, and their little ones.
Y Moisés dijo: ―Ahora se sabrá si el Señor me ha enviado o no a hacer todas las cosas que he hecho, o si he actuado por mi iniciativa.
Y dijo Moisés: En esto conoceréis que Jehová me ha enviado para que hiciese todas estas cosas; que no de mi corazón las hice.
And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for they are not from my own mind.
Si estos hombres mueren en forma natural; de algún accidente o enfermedad común, el Señor no me ha enviado.
Si como mueren todos los hombres murieren éstos, ó si fueren ellos visitados á la manera de todos los hombres, Jehová no me envió.
If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.
If these men die the common death of all men, or if they experience what all men experience, then the LORD hasn’t sent me.
Pero si el Señor hace un milagro y la tierra se abre y se los traga juntamente con todo lo que les pertenece, y entran vivos en el Seol entonces se sabrá que estos hombres han despreciado al Señor.
Mas si Jehová hiciere una nueva cosa, y la tierra abriere su boca, y los tragare con todas sus cosas, y descendieren vivos al abismo, entonces conoceréis que estos hombres irritaron á Jehová.
But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
But if the LORD makes a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up with all that belong to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall understand that these men have despised the LORD.”
Apenas había acabado de decir estas palabras; cuando la tierra se abrió debajo de los rebeldes,
Y aconteció, que en acabando él de hablar todas estas palabras, rompióse la tierra que estaba debajo de ellos:
And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
As he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split apart.
y una gran grieta se los tragó junto con sus tiendas; familias y amigos que estaban con ellos y con todo lo que poseían.
Y abrió la tierra su boca, y tragólos á ellos, y á sus casas, y á todos los hombres de Coré, y á toda su hacienda.
And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all of Korah’s men, and all their goods.
De esta manera entraron vivos en el Seol y la tierra se cerró sobre ellas y perecieron.
Y ellos, con todo lo que tenían, descendieron vivos al abismo, y cubriólos la tierra, y perecieron de en medio de la congregación.
They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
So they, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol. The earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly.
Todo el pueblo de Israel huyó gimiendo, temeroso de que la tierra también se los tragara a ellos.
Y todo Israel, los que estaban en derredor de ellos, huyeron al grito de ellos; porque decían: No nos trague también la tierra.
And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.
All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!”
Enseguida descendió fuego del Señor y quemó a los doscientos cincuenta hombres que estaban ofreciéndole incienso.
Y salió fuego de Jehová, y consumió los doscientos y cincuenta hombres que ofrecían el sahumerio.
And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

Y el Señor le dijo a Moisés:
Entonces Jehová habló á Moisés, diciendo:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
―Dile a Eleazar el hijo de Aarón el sacerdote que retire del fuego los incensarios porque son sagrados, dedicados al Señor. Además debes apagar el fuego
Di á Eleazar, hijo de Aarón sacerdote, que tome los incensarios de en medio del incendio, y derrame más allá el fuego; porque son santificados:
Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
“Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire away from the camp; for they are holy,
de los incensarios de estos hombres que han pecado y les ha costado la vida.
Los incensarios de estos pecadores contra sus almas: y harán de ellos planchas extendidas para cubrir el altar: por cuanto ofrecieron con ellos delante de Jehová, son santificados; y serán por señal á los hijos de Israel.
The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
even the censers of those who sinned against their own lives. Let them be beaten into plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them before the LORD. Therefore they are holy. They shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”
Con sus incensarios harán planchas de metal para cubrir el altar,
Y el sacerdote Eleazar tomó los incensarios de metal con que los quemados habían ofrecido; y extendiéronlos para cubrir el altar,
And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers which those who were burned had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,
a fin de que sirva de recordatorio al pueblo de Israel de que ninguna persona no autorizada, esto es, que no sea descendiente de Aarón; puede venir delante del Señor a quemar el incienso; porque le ocurrirá lo mismo que le pasó a Coré y sus aliados. Estas órdenes del Señor dadas a Moisés fueron cumplidas al pie de la letra.
En recuerdo á los hijos de Israel que ningún extraño que no sea de la simiente de Aarón, llegue á ofrecer sahumerio delante de Jehová, porque no sea como Coré, y como su séquito; según se lo dijo Jehová por mano de Moisés.
To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
to be a memorial to the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger who isn’t of the offspring of Aaron, would come near to burn incense before the LORD, that he not be as Korah and as his company; as the LORD spoke to him by Moses.
Pero a la mañana siguiente, todo el pueblo comenzó a murmurar contra Moisés y Aarón diciendo: ―Tú has dado muerte al pueblo de el Señor.
El día siguiente toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel murmuró contra Moisés y Aarón, diciendo: Vosotros habéis muerto al pueblo de Jehová.
But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.
But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and against Aaron, saying, “You have killed the LORD’s people!”
No tardó en formarse un gran tumulto. Pero repentinamente, mientras se dirigían hacia el santuario, la nube se apareció y se vio la gran gloria del Señor.
Y aconteció que, como se juntó la congregación contra Moisés y Aarón, miraron hacia el tabernáculo del testimonio, y he aquí la nube lo había cubierto, y apareció la gloria de Jehová.
And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
When the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, they looked toward the Tent of Meeting. Behold, the cloud covered it, and the LORD’s glory appeared.
Moisés y Aarón se pararon a la entrada del santuario
Y vinieron Moisés y Aarón delante del tabernáculo del testimonio.
And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

y el Señor le dijo a Moisés:
Y Jehová habló á Moisés, diciendo:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
―Apártate de este pueblo, para que pueda destruirlo instantáneamente. Pero Moisés y Aarón se postraron en tierra delante del Señor.
Apartaos de en medio de esta congregación, y consumirélos en un momento. Y ellos se echaron sobre sus rostros.
Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
“Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!” They fell on their faces.
Y Moisés le dijo a Aarón: ―Rápido, toma un incensario y ponle fuego del altar, coloca incienso y llévalo en medio del pueblo y haz el rito de reparación por ellos, porque la ira del Señor se ha encendido en su contra y una plaga ya ha comenzado.
Y dijo Moisés á Aarón: Toma el incensario, y pon en él fuego del altar, y sobre él pon perfume, y ve presto á la congregación, y haz expiación por ellos; porque el furor ha salido de delante de la faz de Jehová: la mortandad ha comenzado.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, carry it quickly to the congregation, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the LORD! The plague has begun.”
Aarón hizo todo lo que Moisés le había ordenado, y corrió por en medio del pueblo, porque la plaga ya había comenzado; y puso incienso en el incensario e hizo la ofrenda de perdón de pecados por ellos.
Entonces tomó Aarón el incensario, como Moisés dijo, y corrió en medio de la congregación: y he aquí que la mortandad había comenzado en el pueblo: y él puso perfume, é hizo expiación por el pueblo.
And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the middle of the assembly. The plague had already begun among the people. He put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.
Y se paró entre los vivos y los muertos y la plaga se detuvo.

Pero alcanzaron a morir catorce mil setecientas personas (además de los que habían muerto el día anterior con Coré).
