El pueblo empezó pronto a quejarse, y el Señor lo oyó. Su furor se encendió contra ellos a causa de sus quejas, y el fuego del Señor empezó por destruir a los que se encontraban en uno de los extremos del campamento.
Y ACONTECIÓ que el pueblo se quejó á oídos de Jehová: y oyólo Jehová, y enardecióse su furor, y encendióse en ellos fuego de Jehová y consumió el un cabo del campo.
And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
The people were complaining in the ears of the LORD. When the LORD heard it, his anger burned; and the LORD’s fire burned among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.
Entonces ellos clamaron a Moisés, y cuando este oró por ellos, el fuego se apagó.

And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.

Desde entonces aquel lugar se conoció con el nombre de Taberá (Incendio), porque el fuego del Señor ardió allí.
Y llamó á aquel lugar Taberah; porque el fuego de Jehová se encendió en ellos.

El populacho que iban con ellos empezó a añorar las cosas buenas de Egipto. A esto se sumó el resto de los israelitas que, descontentos, empezaron a llorar diciendo: «¡Quién nos diera carne! ¡Ah, si tuviéramos un poco del delicioso pescado que comíamos gratis en Egipto, y pepinos, melones, puerros, cebollas y ajos!
Y el vulgo que había en medio tuvo un vivo deseo, y volvieron, y aun lloraron los hijos de Israel, y dijeron: ¡Quién nos diera á comer carne!

Y era el maná del tamaño de una semilla de cilantro, y tenía el aspecto de gotas de resina de árbol.

El pueblo lo recogía del suelo y lo machacaba para convertirlo en harina, lo hervía después y hacía tortas con él. Sabía a tortas fritas con aceite de oliva.
Derramábase el pueblo, y recogían, y molían en molinos, ó majaban en morteros, y lo cocían en caldera, ó hacían de él tortas: y su sabor era como sabor de aceite nuevo.

le dijo al Señor: «¿Por qué me has elegido a mí para darme una carga semejante con este pueblo?

And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
Moses said to the LORD, “Why have you treated your servant so badly? Why haven’t I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?
¿Acaso son hijos míos? ¿Soy yo su padre para que me impongas el deber de criarlos como si fueran criaturas, hasta que lleguemos a la tierra que prometiste a sus antepasados?
¿Concebí yo á todo este pueblo? ¿engendrélo yo, para que me digas: Llévalo en tu seno, como lleva la que cría al que mama, á la tierra de la cual juraste á sus padres?
Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them out, that you should tell me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers’?
¿De dónde voy a sacar carne para toda esta gente? Porque me están llorando y diciendo: “¡Danos carne!”.
¿De dónde tengo yo carne para dar á todo este pueblo? porque lloran á mí, diciendo: Danos carne que comamos.
Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
Where could I get meat to give all these people? For they weep before me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’
¡Yo solo no puedo soportar a esta nación! ¡Es demasiada carga!
No puedo yo solo soportar á todo este pueblo, que me es pesado en demasía.

And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

Entonces el Señor le dijo a Moisés: ―Convócame a setenta dirigentes de Israel y reúnelos en el santuario para que se presenten contigo.
Entonces Jehová dijo á Moisés: Júntame setenta varones de los ancianos de Israel, que tú sabes que son ancianos del pueblo y sus principales; y tráelos á la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio, y esperen allí contigo.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
The LORD said to Moses, “Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.
Yo descenderé y hablaré contigo allí, y tomaré del Espíritu que hay en ti y lo pondré también en ellos. Ellos te ayudarán a llevar la carga de modo que no tengas que hacer este trabajo solo.

»Y dile a la gente que se purifique, porque mañana tendrán carne para comer. Diles: “El Señor ha oído sus lloriqueos por lo que han dejado en Egipto, y les va a dar carne.

Comerán carne no por un día ni dos, ni cinco ni diez ni veinte.
No comeréis un día, ni dos días, ni cinco días, ni diez días, ni veinte días;
Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
You will not eat just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,
Durante un mes entero tendrán carne, hasta que la vomiten por las narices; porque han despreciado al Señor que está aquí entre ustedes y han suspirado por Egipto”».
Sino hasta un mes de tiempo, hasta que os salga por las narices, y os sea en aborrecimiento: por cuanto menospreciasteis á Jehová que está en medio de vosotros, y llorasteis delante de él, diciendo: ¿Para qué salimos acá de Egipto?
But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

Pero Moisés dijo: ―Sólo los hombres suman seiscientos mil (mujeres y niños aparte); ¡y a pesar de eso les prometes carne durante todo un mes!
Entonces dijo Moisés: Seiscientos mil de á pie es el pueblo en medio del cual yo estoy; y tú dices: Les daré carne, y comerán el tiempo de un mes.
And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.

¡Aunque matáramos todos nuestros rebaños no tendríamos suficiente! ¡Habría que pescar todos los peces del mar para cumplir tu promesa!

Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: ―¿Cuándo he sido débil? ¡Ahora verás que mi palabra se cumple!
Entonces Jehová respondió á Moisés: ¿Hase acortado la mano de Jehová? ahora verás si te sucede mi dicho, ó no.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’s hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
The LORD said to Moses, “Has the LORD’s hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not.”
Y Moisés salió del santuario e informó al pueblo de las palabras del Señor; y reunió a los setenta ancianos y los situó en torno al santuario.
Y salió Moisés, y dijo al pueblo las palabras de Jehová: y juntó los setenta varones de los ancianos del pueblo, é hízolos estar alrededor del tabernáculo.
And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.

Pero dos de aquellos setenta —Eldad y Medad— se habían quedado en el campamento, y cuando el Espíritu vino a ellos, profetizaron allí.
Y habían quedado en el campo dos varones, llamado el uno Eldad y el otro Medad, sobre los cuales también reposó el espíritu: estaban estos entre los escritos, mas no habían salido al tabernáculo; y profetizaron en el campo.
But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.

Un muchacho fue corriendo y le explicó a Moisés lo que estaba sucediendo,
Y corrió un mozo, y dió aviso á Moisés, y dijo: Eldad y Medad profetizan en el campo.
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.

y Josué (hijo de Nun), uno de los ayudantes de Moisés, protestó: ―¡Moisés, hazles callar!
Entonces respondió Josué hijo de Nun, ministro de Moisés, uno de sus mancebos, y dijo: Señor mío Moisés, impídelos.
And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.

Pero Moisés le respondió: ―¿Tienes celos por mí? ¡Ojalá todo el pueblo de Dios fuera profeta, y el Señor pusiera su Espíritu sobre todos ellos!
Y Moisés le respondió: ¿Tienes tú celos por mí? mas ojalá que todo el pueblo de Jehová fuesen profetas, que Jehová pusiera su espíritu sobre ellos.
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets, that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!”
Entonces Moisés regresó al campamento acompañado de los ancianos de Israel.
Y recogióse Moisés al campo, él y los ancianos de Israel.
And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

El Señor envió un viento que arrastró codornices de la ribera del mar, y las dejó caer en el campamento y en todos sus alrededores. Había codornices en todas direcciones, a distancia de un día de camino, y hasta casi un metro de altura.
Y salió un viento de Jehová, y trajo codornices de la mar, y dejólas sobre el real, un día de camino de la una parte, y un día de camino de la otra, en derredor del campo, y casi dos codos sobre la haz de la tierra.
And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

Así pues, el pueblo tomó y mató codornices durante todo el día y la noche, y todo el día siguiente. El que menos recogió, juntó diez montones, y algunos hasta las extendieron en el campo para secarlas.
Entonces el pueblo estuvo levantado todo aquel día, y toda la noche, y todo el día siguiente, y recogiéronse codornices: el que menos, recogió diez montones; y las tendieron para sí á lo largo en derredor del campo.
And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

Pero en cuanto empezaron a comer carne, la ira de Dios se levantó contra el pueblo, y mató a gran cantidad de ellos con una plaga.
Aun estaba la carne entre los dientes de ellos, antes que fuese mascada, cuando el furor de Jehová se encendió en el pueblo, é hirió Jehová al pueblo con una muy grande plaga.
And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the LORD’s anger burned against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague.
Por esta razón aquel lugar fue llamado Quibrot Hatavá (Tumba de los codiciosos), porque allí enterraron a los que habían deseado la carne y el regreso a Egipto.
Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Kibroth-hattaavah, por cuanto allí sepultaron al pueblo codicioso.
And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.

Y desde aquel lugar se trasladaron a Jazerot, y se quedaron allí una temporada.
De Kibroth-hattaavah movió el pueblo á Haseroth, y pararon en Haseroth.
And the people journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.
