1Et après que la muraille eut été bâtie, que j'eus posé les battants des portes, et qu'on eut établi les portiers, les chantres et les Lévites,
2je donnai le commandement de Jérusalem à Hanani, mon frère, et à Hanania, commandant de la forteresse, car c'était un homme fidèle et craignant Dieu plus que beaucoup d'autres.
3Et je leur dis : Les portes de Jérusalem ne s'ouvriront pas avant que la chaleur du soleil soit venue ; et pendant que les gardes sont encore là, les portes seront fermées et verrouillées, et l'on établira des gardes composées d'habitants de Jérusalem, les uns à leur poste, et les autres devant leurs maisons.
4Et la ville était spacieuse et grande, et le peuple était en petit nombre au milieu d'elle, et l'on n'avait pas bâti de maisons.
5Et mon Dieu me mit au cœur de rassembler les principaux, les magistrats et le peuple, pour en faire le dénombrement, et je trouvai le livre du dénombrement de ceux qui étaient montés la première fois, et j'y trouvai écrit ce qui suit :
6Voici les habitants de la province qui revinrent de la captivité, que Nébucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, avait emmenés captifs, et qui revinrent à Jérusalem et en Juda, chacun dans sa ville,
7ceux qui étaient venus avec Zorobabel, Josué, Néhémie, Azaria, Raamia, Nahamani, Mardochée, Bilsan, Mispéreth, Bigvaï, Néhum, Baana. Nombre des hommes du peuple d'Israël :

61Et voici ceux qui montèrent de Tel-Mélach, de Tel-Harsa, de Kérub-Addan et d'Immer, et qui n'avaient pas pu établir leur maison patriarcale et leur descendance, pour prouver qu'ils fussent israélites :
62Fils de Délaïa, fils de Tobie, fils de Nékoda, six cent quarante-deux.
63Et d'entre les sacrificateurs : Fils de Hobaïa, fils de Hakkots, fils de Barzillaï, qui avait épousé une des filles de Barzillaï, de Galaad, et fut appelé de leur nom.
64Ces hommes cherchèrent leurs généalogies, qui ne se trouvèrent pas, et ils furent rejetés du sacerdoce.
65Et le gouverneur leur dit de ne pas manger des choses très saintes jusqu'à ce qu'il y eût un sacrificateur à Urim et Thummim.
66Toute l'assemblée au total était de quarante-deux mille trois cent soixante personnes,
67sans compter leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes, au nombre de sept mille trois cent trente-sept ; et ils avaient deux cent quarante-cinq chantres et chanteuses.
68Leurs chevaux étaient au nombre de sept cent trente-six ; leurs mulets, de deux cent quarante-cinq ;
69les chameaux, de quatre cent trente-cinq ; les ânes, de six mille sept cent vingt.
70Et quelques-uns des chefs de famille firent des dons en faveur de l'œuvre ; le gouverneur donna au trésor, en or, mille dariques, cinquante coupes, cinq cent trente tuniques de sacrificateurs ;
71et quelques-uns d'entre les chefs de famille donnèrent au trésor de l'œuvre, en or, vingt mille dariques, et en argent, deux mille deux cents mines ;
72et ce que donna le reste du peuple était, en or, vingt mille dariques, et en argent, deux mille mines, et soixante-sept tuniques de sacrificateurs.
73Et les sacrificateurs et les Lévites, les portiers, les chantres et quelques-uns du peuple, et les Néthiniens, et tout Israël habitèrent dans leurs villes. Et le septième mois approcha, et les fils, d'Israël étaient dans leurs villes.

66La congregación toda junta era de cuarenta y dos mil trescientos y sesenta,
67Sin sus siervos y siervas, que eran siete mil trescientos treinta y siete; y entre ellos había doscientos cuarenta y cinco cantores y cantoras.
68Sus caballos, setecientos treinta y seis; sus mulos, doscientos cuarenta y cinco;
69Camellos, cuatrocientos treinta y cinco; asnos, seis mil setecientos y veinte.
70Y algunos de los príncipes de las familias dieron para la obra. El Tirsatha dió para el tesoro mil dracmas de oro, cincuenta tazones, y quinientas treinta vestiduras sacerdotales.

1Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

63And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.
64These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.
65And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
66The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,
67Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women.
68Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:
69Their camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses.
70And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.
71And some of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.
72And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests’ garments.
73So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.

60All the temple servants and the children of Solomon’s servants were three hundred ninety-two.
61These were those who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers’ houses, nor their offspring, whether they were of Israel:
62The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda: six hundred forty-two.
63Of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.
64These searched for their genealogical records, but couldn’t find them. Therefore they were deemed disqualified and removed from the priesthood.
65The governor told them not to eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up to minister with Urim and Thummim.
66The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty,
67in addition to their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven. They had two hundred forty-five singing men and singing women.
68Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five;
69their camels, four hundred thirty-five; their donkeys, six thousand seven hundred twenty.
70Some from among the heads of fathers’ households gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred thirty priests’ garments.
71Some of the heads of fathers’ households gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand two hundred minas of silver.
72That which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, plus two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests’ garments.
73So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel lived in their cities. When the seventh month had come, the children of Israel were in their cities.
