1ALS nun alle Könige der Amoriter, die jenseits des Jordan gegen Westen wohnten, und alle Könige der Kanaaniter am Meere hörten, wie der Herr das Wasser des Jordan vor den Israeliten hatte vertrocknen lassen, bis sie drüben waren, da verzagte ihr Herz, und der Mut entsank ihnen vor den Israeliten.
2Zu der Zeit sprach der Herr zu Josua: Mache dir steinerne Messer und beschneide die Israeliten wiederum, zum zweitenmal. (a) 2Mo 4:25
3Da machte sich Josua steinerne Messer und beschnitt die Israeliten am Hügel Araloth.
4Und das ist die Ursache, warum Josua sie beschnitt: alles Volk männlichen Geschlechts, das aus Ägypten gezogen war, alle Kriegsleute waren in der Wüste unterwegs gestorben bei ihrem Auszug aus Ägypten.
5Denn alles Volk, das auszog, war beschnitten gewesen. Aber alles Volk, das in der Wüste unterwegs geboren war, bei ihrem Auszug aus Ägypten, war nicht beschnitten worden.
6Denn vierzig Jahre war Israel in der Wüste gewandert, bis alles Volk umgekommen war - die Kriegsleute, die aus Ägypten gezogen -, weil sie der Stimme des Herrn nicht gehorcht hatten; denn der Herr hatte ihnen geschworen, dass er sie das Land nicht werde sehen lassen, das uns zu geben der Herr ihren Vätern geschworen hatte, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig fliesst, (a) 4Mo 14:22 23
7und ihre Söhne hatte er an ihre Stelle treten lassen. Diese nun beschnitt Josua; denn sie waren unbeschnitten, weil man sie unterwegs nicht beschnitten hatte.
8Und als das ganze Volk beschnitten war, blieben sie an Ort und Stelle im Lager, bis sie genesen waren.
9Und der Herr sprach zu Josua: Heute habe ich die Schmach Ägyptens von euch abgewälzt. Daher nennt man jenen Ort Gilgal bis auf diesen Tag. (1) der Erzähler hörte aus dem Namen Gilgal (vermutlich: Steinkreis o. Steinhaufe) einen Anklang an das hebrW. für "wälzen" heraus.
10Als nun die Israeliten in Gilgal lagerten, hielten sie das Passa am vierzehnten Tage des Monats am Abend in der Steppe von Jericho.
11Und sie assen am Tage nach dem Passa vom Ertrag des Landes, ungesäuertes Brot und geröstetes Korn. An eben diesem Tage (a) 2Mo 12:39
12hörte das Manna auf, als sie vom Ertrag des Landes assen, und die Israeliten bekamen kein Manna mehr, sondern in jenem Jahre assen sie von den Früchten des Landes Kanaan. (a) 2Mo 16:35
13Als aber Josua bei Jericho war, erhob er einst seine Augen und sah, wie ein Mann ihm gegenüberstand, das blanke Schwert in der Hand. Und Josua ging auf ihn zu und sprach zu ihm: Gehörst du zu uns oder zu unsern Feinden? (a) 4Mo 22:23
14Er sprach: Nein, sondern ich bin der Oberste über das Heer des Herrn; eben jetzt bin ich gekommen. Da fiel Josua auf sein Angesicht zur Erde, betete an und sprach zu ihm: Was hat mein Herr seinem Knechte zu sagen?
15Und der Oberste über das Heer des Herrn sprach zu Josua: Ziehe deine Schuhe aus von deinen Füssen; denn die Stätte, da du stehst, ist heilig. Und Josua tat also. (a) 2Mo 3:5

1Y CUANDO todos los reyes de los Amorrheos, que estaban de la otra parte del Jordán al occidente, y todos los reyes de los Cananeos, que estaban cerca de la mar, oyeron como Jehová había secado las aguas del Jordán delante de los hijos de Israel hasta que hubieron pasado, desfalleció su corazón, y no hubo más espíritu en ellos delante de los hijos de Israel.
2En aquel tiempo Jehová dijo á Josué: Hazte cuchillos afilados, y vuelve á circuncidar la segunda vez á los hijos de Israel.
3Y Josué se hizo cuchillos afilados, y circuncidó á los hijos de Israel en el monte de los prepucios.
4Esta es la causa por la cual Josué los circuncidó: todo el pueblo que había salido de Egipto, los varones, todos los hombres de guerra, habían muerto en el desierto por el camino, después que salieron de Egipto.
5Porque todos los del pueblo que habían salido, estaban circuncidados: mas todo el pueblo que había nacido en el desierto por el camino, después que salieron de Egipto, no estaban circuncidados.
6Porque los hijos de Israel anduvieron por el desierto cuarenta años, hasta que toda la gente de los hombres de guerra que habían salido de Egipto, fué consumida, por cuanto no obedecieron á la voz de Jehová; por lo cual Jehová les juró que no les dejaría ver la tierra, de la cual Jehová había jurado á sus padres que nos la daría, tierra que fluye leche y miel.
7Y los hijos de ellos, que él había hecho suceder en su lugar, Josué los circuncidó; pues eran incircuncisos, porque no habían sido circuncidados por el camino.
8Y cuando hubieron acabado de circuncidar toda la gente, quedáronse en el mismo lugar en el campo, hasta que sanaron.
9Y Jehová dijo á Josué: Hoy he quitado de vosotros el oprobio de Egipto: por lo cual el nombre de aquel lugar fué llamado Gilgal, hasta hoy.
10Y los hijos de Israel asentaron el campo en Gilgal, y celebraron la pascua á los catorce días del mes, por la tarde, en los llanos de Jericó.
11Y al otro día de la pascua comieron del fruto de la tierra los panes sin levadura, y en el mismo día espigas nuevas tostadas.
12Y el maná cesó el día siguiente, desde que comenzaron á comer del fruto de la tierra: y los hijos de Israel nunca más tuvieron maná, sino que comieron de los frutos de la tierra de Canaán aquel año.
13Y estando Josué cerca de Jericó, alzó sus ojos, y vió un varón que estaba delante de él, el cual tenía una espada desnuda en su mano. Y Josué yéndose hacia él, le dijo: ¿Eres de los nuestros, ó de nuestros enemigos?
14Y él respondió: No; mas Príncipe del ejército de Jehová, ahora he venido. Entonces Josué postrándose sobre su rostro en tierra le adoró; y díjole: ¿Qué dice mi Señor á su siervo?
15Y el Príncipe del ejército de Jehová respondió á Josué: Quita tus zapatos de tus pies; porque el lugar donde estás es santo. Y Josué lo hizo así.

1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
2At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
3And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
4And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
5Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.
6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
7And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.
8And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
9And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.
10And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
11And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
13And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
15And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
World English Bible
1When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.
2At that time, the LORD said to Joshua, “Make flint knives, and circumcise again the sons of Israel the second time.”
3Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
4This is the reason Joshua circumcised them: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness along the way, after they came out of Egypt.
5For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.
6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to the LORD’s voice. The LORD swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which the LORD swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
7Their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.
8When they were done circumcising the whole nation, they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed.
9The LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal to this day.
10The children of Israel encamped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.
11They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day.
12The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn’t have manna any more, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
13When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our enemies?”
14He said, “No; but I have come now as commander of the LORD’s army.” Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and asked him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”
15The prince of the LORD’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals, for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.
