1Disse o Senhor a Josué:
2“Diga ao povo de Israel que separe as cidades de refúgio, conforme as instruções que dei a Moisés.
3Se alguém for culpado de matar alguma pessoa sem intenção, poderá fugir para uma destas cidades para ficar protegido dos parentes do morto. Eles podem querer matar o homicida, por vingança.
4“Quando o homicida involuntário fugir e chegar a uma cidade de refúgio, comparecerá diante do conselho que governa a cidade e explicará o que houve. O conselho terá o dever de deixar que ele entre na cidade e more ali.
5Se o vingador da vítima chegar ali, perseguindo aquela pessoa, a cidade não entregará o fugitivo; porque a morte foi acidental, sem haver briga entre eles e sem premeditação.
6Aquele que causou a morte acidental deverá ficar naquela cidade até ser julgado pelos juízes; e deverá morar ali até a morte do sumo sacerdote que estiver no exercício por ocasião do acidente. Depois ele terá liberdade para voltar para casa, para a cidade de onde fugiu”.
7As cidades escolhidas como cidades de refúgio foram estas: Quedes, na Galileia, na região montanhosa de Naftali; Siquém, na região montanhosa de Efraim; Quiriate-Arba (que é Hebrom), na região montanhosa de Judá.
8No lado leste do rio Jordão, mais três cidades foram escolhidas com a mesma finalidade, perto de Jericó: Bezer, no deserto do território de Rúben; Ramote, de Gileade, nas terras das tribo de Gade; e Golã, de Basã, no território da tribo de Manassés.
9Estas cidades de refúgio serviam tanto para os israelitas como para os estrangeiros residentes nas terras de Israel. Todo aquele que matasse alguém por acidente tinha um lugar para escapar do vingador da vítima, antes de comparecer ao julgamento perante a assembleia.

1Y HABLÓ Jehová á Josué, diciendo:
2Habla á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales yo os hablé por Moisés;
3Para que se acoja allí el homicida que matare á alguno por yerro y no á sabiendas; que os sean por acogimiento del cercano del muerto.
4Y el que se acogiere á alguna de aquellas ciudades, presentaráse á la puerta de la ciudad, y dirá sus causas, oyéndolo los ancianos de aquella ciudad: y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar que habite con ellos.
5Y cuando el cercano del muerto le siguiere, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió á su prójimo por yerro, ni tuvo con él antes enemistad.
6Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que parezca en juicio delante del ayuntamiento, hasta la muerte del gran sacerdote que fuere en aquel tiempo: entonces el homicida tornará y vendrá á su ciudad y á su casa y á la ciudad de donde huyó.
7Entonces señalaron á Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Nephtalí, y á Sichêm en el monte de Ephraim, y á Chîriath-arba, que es Hebrón, en el monte de Judá.
8Y de la otra parte del Jordán de Jericó, al oriente, señalaron á Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, y á Ramoth en Galaad de la tribu de Gad, y á Gaulón en Basán de la tribu de Manasés.
9Estas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morase entre ellos, para que se acogiese á ellas cualquiera que hiriese hombre por yerro, y no muriese por mano del cercano del muerto, hasta que compareciese delante del ayuntamiento.

1The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying,
2Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
3That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
4And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.
6And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
7And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.
8And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.
9These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
World English Bible
1The LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,
2“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses,
3that the man slayer who kills any person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there. They shall be to you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.
4He shall flee to one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his case in the ears of the elders of that city. They shall take him into the city with them, and give him a place, that he may live among them.
5If the avenger of blood pursues him, then they shall not deliver up the man slayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him before.
6He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days. Then the man slayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city he fled from.’”
