1Da glaubten die Leute zu Ninive an Gott und ließen predigen, man sollte fasten, und zogen Säcke an, beide, groß und klein.
2Und da das vor den König zu Ninive kam, stund er auf von seinem Thron und legte seinen Purpur ab und hüllete einen Sack um sich und setzte sich in die Asche.
3Und ließ ausschreien und sagen zu Ninive aus Befehl des Königes und seiner Gewaltigen also: Es soll weder Mensch noch Tier, weder Ochsen noch Schafe etwas kosten, und man soll sie nicht weiden noch Wasser trinken lassen;
4und sollen Säcke um sich hüllen beide, Menschen und Tier, und zu Gott rufen heftig; und ein jeglicher bekehre sich von seinem bösen Wege und vom Frevel seiner Hände!
5Wer weiß, Gott möchte sich kehren und ihn reuen und sich wenden von seinem grimmigen Zorn, daß wir nicht verderben.
6Da aber Gott sah ihre Werke, daß sie sich bekehreten von ihrem bösen Wege, reuete ihn des Übels, das er geredet hatte, ihnen zu tun, und tat's nicht.
7Das verdroß Jona fast sehr und ward zornig
8und betete zum HERRN und sprach: Ach, HERR, das ist's, das ich sagte, da ich noch in meinem Lande war; darum ich auch wollte zuvorkommen, zu fliehen aufs Meer; denn ich weiß, daß du gnädig, barmherzig, langmütig und von großer Güte bist und lässest dich des Übels reuen.
9So nimm doch nun, HERR, meine Seele von mir; denn ich wollte lieber tot sein denn leben!
10Aber der HERR sprach: Meinest du, daß du billig zürnest?

1Y FUÉ palabra de Jehová segunda vez á Jonás, diciendo:
2Levántate, y ve á Nínive, aquella gran ciudad, y publica en ella el pregón que yo te diré.
3Y levantóse Jonás, y fué á Nínive, conforme á la palabra de Jehová. Y era Nínive ciudad sobremanera grande, de tres días de camino.
4Y comenzó Jonás á entrar por la ciudad, camino de un día, y pregonaba diciendo: De aquí á cuarenta días Nínive será destruída.
5Y los hombres de Nínive creyeron á Dios, y pregonaron ayuno, y vistiéronse de sacos desde el mayor de ellos hasta el menor de ellos.
6Y llegó el negocio hasta el rey de Nínive, y levantóse de su silla, y echó de sí su vestido, y cubrióse de saco, y se sentó sobre ceniza.
7E hizo pregonar y anunciar en Nínive, por mandado del rey y de sus grandes, diciendo: Hombres y animales, bueyes y ovejas, no gusten cosa alguna, no se les dé alimento, ni beban agua:
8Y que se cubran de saco los hombres y los animales, y clamen á Dios fuertemente: y conviértase cada uno de su mal camino, de la rapiña que está en sus manos.
9¿Quién sabe si se volverá y arrepentirá Dios, y se apartará del furor de su ira, y no pereceremos?
10Y vió Dios lo que hicieron, que se convirtieron de su mal camino: y arrepintióse del mal que había dicho les había de hacer, y no lo hizo.

1And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

1The LORD’s word came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”
3So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the LORD’s word. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.
4Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”
5The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.
6The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;
8but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.
9Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”
10God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.
