1Nun aber höre, Hiob, meine Rede, / und all meinen Worten leihe dein Ohr. /
2Sieh doch, ich tue meinen Mund auf, / es redet die Zunge an meinem Gaumen. /
3Mein Herz strömt über von Worten der Einsicht, / Lauteres reden meine Lippen. /
4Der Geist Gottes hat mich geschaffen, / und der Odem des Allmächtigen gibt mir Leben. /
5Wenn du kannst, so gib mir Antwort, / lege es mir vor und stelle dich! /
6Siehe, ich stehe zu Gott wie du, / vom Lehm genommen bin auch ich. / (a) Hio 10:9; 1Mo 2:7
7Sieh, Furcht vor mir soll dich nicht schrecken / und meine Hand nicht auf dir lasten. / (a) Hio 13:21
8Nur hast du vor meinen Ohren gesagt - / und ich habe den Laut deiner Worte gehört -: /
9"Rein bin ich, ohne Missetat, / lauter bin ich und frei von Schuld. / (a) Hio 16:17
10Sieh, Anklagen erfindet er wider mich, / er hält mich für seinen Feind. / (a) Hio 13:24; 19:11
11Er legt meine Füsse in den Block / und hat acht auf alle meine Pfade." / (a) Hio 13:27
12Sieh, da hast du nicht Recht, erwidre ich dir; / denn Gott ist grösser als der Mensch. /
13Warum haderst du wider ihn: / "Auf all mein Reden gibt er nicht Antwort"? /
14Denn durch eines redet Gott / und durch zwei - man achtet's nicht. /
15Im Traum, im Nachtgesichte, / wenn auf Menschen Tiefschlaf fällt, / im Schlummer auf dem Lager, /
16da öffnet er das Ohr der Menschen / und erschreckt sie durch seine Verwarnung, / (a) Hio 36:10
17den Menschen abzubringen vom Unrecht / und den Hochmut aus dem Manne zu tilgen, /
18seine Seele vor der Grube zu bewahren / und sein Leben vor dem Gang zum Totenreich. /
19Auch wird er gemahnt durch Schmerz auf seinem Lager, / wenn der Kampf in seinem Gebein gewaltig tobt. /
20Da wird durch sein Leben ihm das Brot verleidet, / durch seine Unlust die Lieblingsspeise. /
21Hinschwindet sein Fleisch, dass man es nicht mehr sieht, / und bloss wird sein Gebein, das man (zuvor) nicht sah; /
22seine Seele naht der Grube und sein Leben den Todesengeln. /
23Ist dann ein Engel für ihn da, / ein Mittler, einer aus den Tausend, / und der erklärt dem Menschen seine Züchtigung, /
24und er erbarmt sich sein und spricht: / "Lass ihn los, dass er nicht hinab zur Grube fahre; / ich habe ein Lösegeld gefunden", /
25so schwillt sein Fleisch von Jugendkraft, / er kehrt zurück zu den Tagen der Jugend. /
26Er betet zu Gott, und der ist ihm gnädig, / lässt ihn sein Angesicht mit Jauchzen schauen / und gibt dem Menschen die Unschuld wieder. /
27Er wird vor den Leuten lobsingen und sagen: / "Ich habe gesündigt und das Recht verkehrt; / aber er hat mir nicht nach meiner Schuld vergolten. /
28Er hat mein Leben bewahrt vor der Grube, / und meine Seele schaut mit Lust das Licht." /
29Siehe, dies alles tut Gott / zweimal und dreimal mit dem Menschen: /
30er holt seine Seele zurück aus der Grube, / dass er sich freue am Lichte des Lebens. / (a) Ps 56:14
31Merke auf, Hiob, und höre mir zu; / schweige, dass ich reden kann. /
32Hast du Worte, so gib mir Antwort; / sag an, denn gerne gäbe ich dir Recht. /
33Wenn nicht, so höre du mir zu; / schweige, so will ich dich Weisheit lehren.

1POR tanto, Job, oye ahora mis razones, y escucha todas mis palabras.
2He aquí yo abriré ahora mi boca, y mi lengua hablará en mi garganta.
3Mis razones declararán la rectitud de mi corazón, y mis labios proferirán pura sabiduría.
4El espíritu de Dios me hizo, y la inspiración del Omnipotente me dió vida.
5Si pudieres, respóndeme; dispón tus palabras, está delante de mí.
6Heme aquí á mí en lugar de Dios, conforme á tu dicho: de lodo soy yo también formado.
7He aquí que mi terror no te espantará, ni mi mano se agravará sobre ti.
8De cierto tú dijiste á oídos míos, y yo oí la voz de tus palabras que decían:
9Yo soy limpio y sin defecto; y soy inocente, y no hay maldad en mí.
10He aquí que él buscó achaques contra mí, y me tiene por su enemigo;
11Puso mis pies en el cepo, y guardó todas mis sendas.
12He aquí en esto no has hablado justamente: yo te responderé que mayor es Dios que el hombre.
13¿Por qué tomaste pleito contra él? Porque él no da cuenta de ninguna de sus razones.
14Sin embargo, en una ó en dos maneras habla Dios; mas el hombre no entiende.
15Por sueño de visión nocturna, cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres, cuando se adormecen sobre el lecho;
16Entonces revela al oído de los hombres, y les señala su consejo;
17Para quitar al hombre de su obra, y apartar del varón la soberbia.
18Detendrá su alma de corrupción, y su vida de que pase á cuchillo.
19También sobre su cama es castigado con dolor fuerte en todos sus huesos,
20Que le hace que su vida aborrezca el pan, y su alma la comida suave.
21Su carne desfallece sin verse, y sus huesos, que antes no se veían, aparecen.
22Y su alma se acerca al sepulcro, y su vida á los que causan la muerte.
23Si tuviera cerca de él algún elocuente anunciador muy escogido, que anuncie al hombre su deber;
24Que le diga que Dios tuvo de él misericordia, que lo libró de descender al sepulcro, que halló redención:
25Enterneceráse su carne más que de niño, volverá á los días de su mocedad.
26Orará á Dios, y le amará, y verá su faz con júbilo: y él restituirá al hombre su justicia.
27El mira sobre los hombres; y el que dijere: Pequé, y pervertí lo recto, y no me ha aprovechado;
28Dios redimirá su alma, que no pase al sepulcro, y su vida se verá en luz.
29He aquí, todas estas cosas hace Dios dos y tres veces con el hombre;
30Para apartar su alma del sepulcro, y para iluminarlo con la luz de los vivientes.
31Escucha, Job, y óyeme; calla, y yo hablaré.
32Que si tuvieres razones, respóndeme: habla, porque yo te quiero justificar.
33Y si no, óyeme tú á mí; calla, y enseñarte he sabiduría.

1Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
6Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
9I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
28He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
30To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

1“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.
2See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.
3My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.
4The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.
6Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.
7Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.
8“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,
9‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.
10Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.
11He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’
12“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.
