1Da begab es sich eines Tages, daß die Gottessöhne wiederum kamen, um sich vor Gott den HERRN zu stellen; und unter ihnen erschien auch der Satan, um sich vor den HERRN zu stellen.
2Da fragte der HERR den Satan: »Woher kommst du?« Der Satan gab dem HERRN zur Antwort: »Ich bin auf der Erde umhergestreift und habe eine Wanderung auf ihr vorgenommen.«
3Da sagte der HERR zum Satan: »Hast du auch auf meinen Knecht Hiob achtgegeben? Denn so wie er ist kein Mensch auf der Erde, so fromm und rechtschaffen, so gottesfürchtig und dem Bösen feind; noch immer hält er an seiner Frömmigkeit fest, wiewohl du mich gegen ihn gereizt hast, ihn ohne Grund unglücklich zu machen.«
4Der Satan aber erwiderte dem HERRN: »Haut um Haut! Ja alles, was ein Mensch hat, gibt er für sein Leben hin.
5Aber strecke nur einmal deine Hand aus und lege sie an sein Gebein und sein Fleisch, so wird er sich sicherlich offen von dir lossagen!«
6Da sagte der HERR zum Satan: »Gut! er soll in deine Gewalt gegeben sein: nur sein Leben sollst du schonen!«
7Da ging der Satan vom HERRN hinweg und schlug Hiob mit bösartigen Geschwüren von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel,
8so daß er sich eine Scherbe nahm, um sich mit ihr zu schaben, während er mitten in der Asche saß.
9Da sagte seine Frau zu ihm: »Hältst du denn immer noch an deiner Frömmigkeit fest? Sage dich los von Gott und stirb!«
10Er aber antwortete ihr: »Du redest, wie die erste beste Törin reden würde! Das Gute haben wir von Gott hingenommen und sollten das Schlimme nicht auch hinnehmen?« Bei allen diesen Heimsuchungen versündigte sich Hiob nicht mit seinen Lippen.
11Als nun die drei Freunde Hiobs von all diesem Unglück hörten, das ihn betroffen hatte, machten sie sich, ein jeder aus seinem Wohnort, auf den Weg, nämlich Eliphas aus Theman, Bildad aus Suah und Zophar aus Naama, und zwar verabredeten sie sich, miteinander hinzugehen, um ihm ihr Beileid auszudrücken und ihn zu trösten.
12Als sie nun von ferne ihre Augen aufschlugen, erkannten sie ihn nicht mehr; da fingen sie an, laut zu weinen, zerrissen ein jeder sein Gewand und warfen Staub in die Luft auf ihre Häupter herab.
13Dann saßen sie bei ihm auf dem Erdboden sieben Tage und sieben Nächte lang, ohne daß einer ein Wort zu ihm redete; denn sie sahen, daß sein Schmerz überaus groß war.

1Y OTRO día aconteció que vinieron los hijos de Dios para presentarse delante de Jehová, y Satán vino también entre ellos pareciendo delante de Jehová.
2Y dijo Jehová á Satán: ¿De dónde vienes? Respondió Satán á Jehová, y dijo: De rodear la tierra, y de andar por ella.
3Y Jehová dijo á Satán: ¿No has considerado á mi siervo Job, que no hay otro como él en la tierra, varón perfecto y recto, temeroso de Dios y apartado de mal, y que aun retiene su perfección, habiéndome tú incitado contra él, para que lo arruinara sin causa?
4Y respondiendo Satán dijo á Jehová: Piel por piel, todo lo que el hombre tiene dará por su vida.
5Mas extiende ahora tu mano, y toca á su hueso y á su carne, y verás si no te blasfema en tu rostro.
6Y Jehová dijo á Satán: He aquí, él está en tu mano; mas guarda su vida.
7Y salió Satán de delante de Jehová, é hirió á Job de una maligna sarna desde la planta de su pie hasta la mollera de su cabeza.
8Y tomaba una teja para rascarse con ella, y estaba sentado en medio de ceniza.
9Díjole entonces su mujer: ¿Aun retienes tú tu simplicidad? Bendice á Dios, y muérete.
10Y él le dijo: Como suele hablar cualquiera de las mujeres fatuas, has hablado. También recibimos el bien de Dios, ¿y el mal no recibiremos? En todo esto no pecó Job con sus labios.
11Y tres amigos de Job, Eliphaz Temanita, y Bildad Suhita, y Sophar Naamathita, luego que oyeron todo este mal que le había sobrevenido, vinieron cada uno de su lugar; porque habían concertado de venir juntos á condolecerse de él, y á consolarle.
12Los cuales alzando los ojos desde lejos, no lo conocieron, y lloraron á voz en grito; y cada uno de ellos rasgó su manto, y esparcieron polvo sobre sus cabezas hacia el cielo.
13Así se sentaron con él en tierra por siete días y siete noches, y ninguno le hablaba palabra, porque veían que el dolor era muy grande.

1Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
2And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
3And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
5But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
7So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
8And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.
9Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
10But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
11Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
12And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
13So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

1Again, on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
2The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
3The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause.”
4Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Skin for skin. Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.
5But stretch out your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce you to your face.”
6The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life.”
7So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.
8He took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with, and he sat among the ashes.
9Then his wife said to him, “Do you still maintain your integrity? Renounce God, and die.”
10But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job didn’t sin with his lips.
11Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come on him, they each came from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and to comfort him.
12When they lifted up their eyes from a distance, and didn’t recognize him, they raised their voices, and wept; and they each tore his robe, and sprinkled dust on their heads toward the sky.
13So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.
