1DA erwiderte Eliphas von Theman und sprach:
2Kann denn der Mensch Gott etwas nützen? / Nein, nur sich selbst nützt der Verständige. / (a) Hio 35:7
3Liegt dem Allmächtigen daran, dass du gerecht bist? / Ist's ihm Gewinn, dass du fromm wandelst? /
4Straft er dich etwa wegen deiner Gottesfurcht, / und geht er darum mit dir ins Gericht? /
5Ist nicht deine Bosheit gross / und ohne Ende deine Verschuldung? /
6Du hast wohl deine Brüder grundlos gepfändet / und die Entblössten der Kleidung beraubt, / (a) 2Mo 22:26
7dem Erschöpften nicht Wasser zu trinken gegeben / und dem Hungrigen das Brot versagt. / (a) Hio 31:16 17
8Dem Mann der Faust, ihm gehörte das Land, / und der Angesehene wohnte darin. /
9Du hast die Witwen leer fortgeschickt / und die Arme der Waisen zermalmt. /
10Darum bist du von Schlingen umgeben / und ängstigt dich plötzlicher Schrecken. /
11Dein Licht ward finster, dass du nicht siehst, / und der Schwall der Wasser bedeckt dich. /
12Ist nicht Gott in Himmelshöhen? / Und sieh das Haupt der Sterne, wie sie ragen! /
13Und du willst sagen: "Was weiss denn Gott? / Wird er durchs Wolkendunkel richten? /
14Wolken umhüllen ihn, dass er nicht sieht; / am Umkreis des Himmels lustwandelt er." /
15Willst du der Vorwelt Pfad einhalten, / den die Männer des Frevels gewandelt sind? /
16die gepackt worden sind vor der Zeit, / deren Boden zum Strome zerfloss? /
17die zu Gott sprachen: "Weiche von uns!" / und: "Was könnte uns der Allmächtige tun?" - / (a) Hio 21:14
18da er doch ihre Häuser mit Segen gefüllt - / und: "Der Rat der Gottlosen kümmert ihn nicht." /
19Die Gerechten sahen's und freuten sich, / und der Reine spottete ihrer: /
20"Fürwahr, vertilgt sind unsere Widersacher, / und ihren Rest hat das Feuer verzehrt." /
21Befreunde dich doch mit ihm und halte Frieden. / Dadurch kommt Segen über dich. /
22Nimm doch Belehrung an aus seinem Munde, / und lege seine Worte in dein Herz. /
23Wenn du dich zum Allmächtigen bekehrst in Demut, / das Unrecht fernhältst deinem Zelte, / (a) Hio 11:14
24wenn du das Golderz in den Staub legst / und zum Gestein der Bäche das Ophirgold, /
25wenn der Allmächtige dein Golderz wird / und dir als Silber seine Weisung gilt, /
26ja, dann wirst du dich am Allmächtigen erfreuen / und dein Angesicht zu Gott erheben. /
27Du wirst ihn bitten, er wird dich erhören, / und du wirst deine Gelübde bezahlen. / (a) Ps 50:14 15
28Was du beschliessest, das wird dir gelingen, / und Licht strahlt über deinen Wegen. /
29Denn Gott demütigt den Übermut, / doch wer die Augen niederschlägt, dem hilft er. / (a) Spr 29:23
30Er erfüllt des Schuldlosen Begehr, / der gerettet wird durch die Reinheit seiner Hände.

2¿Traerá el hombre provecho á Dios, porque el sabio sea provechoso á sí mismo?
3¿Tiene su contentamiento el Omnipotente en que tú seas justificado, ó provecho de que tú hagas perfectos tus caminos?
4¿Castigaráte acaso, ó vendrá contigo á juicio porque te teme?
5Por cierto tu malicia es grande, y tus maldades no tienen fin.
6Porque sacaste prenda á tus hermanos sin causa, é hiciste desnudar las ropas de los desnudos.
7No diste de beber agua al cansado, y detuviste el pan al hambriento.
8Empero el hombre pudiente tuvo la tierra; y habitó en ella el distinguido.
9Las viudas enviaste vacías, y los brazos de los huérfanos fueron quebrados.
10Por tanto hay lazos alrededor de ti, y te turba espanto repentino;
11O tinieblas, porque no veas; y abundancia de agua te cubre.
12¿No está Dios en la altura de los cielos? Mira lo encumbrado de las estrellas, cuán elevadas están.
13¿Y dirás tú: Qué sabe Dios? ¿cómo juzgará por medio de la oscuridad?
14Las nubes son su escondedero, y no ve; y por el circuito del cielo se pasea.
15¿Quieres tú guardar la senda antigua, que pisaron los hombres perversos?
16Los cuales fueron cortados antes de tiempo, cuyo fundamento fué como un río derramado:
17Que decían á Dios: Apártate de nosotros. ¿Y qué les había hecho el Omnipotente?
18Habíales él henchido sus casas de bienes. Sea empero el consejo de ellos lejos de mí.
19Verán los justos y se gozarán; y el inocente los escarnecerá, diciendo:
20Fué cortada nuestra sustancia, habiendo consumido el fuego el resto de ellos.
21Amístate ahora con él, y tendrás paz; y por ello te vendrá bien.
22Toma ahora la ley de su boca, y pon sus palabras en tu corazón.
23Si te tornares al Omnipotente, serás edificado; alejarás de tu tienda la aflicción;
24Y tendrás más oro que tierra, y como piedras de arroyos oro de Ophir;
25Y el Todopoderoso será tu defensa, y tendrás plata á montones.
26Porque entonces te deleitarás en el Omnipotente, y alzarás á Dios tu rostro.
27Orarás á él, y él te oirá; y tú pagarás tus votos.
28Determinarás asimismo una cosa, y serte ha firme; y sobre tus caminos resplandecerá luz.
29Cuando fueren abatidos, dirás tú: Ensalzamiento habrá: y Dios salvará al humilde de ojos.
30El libertará la isla del inocente; y por la limpieza de tus manos será librada.

1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
3Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
9Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
11Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
12Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
13And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
14Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
15Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
17Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
18Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
21Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
22Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
23If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
24Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
25Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
26For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
28Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
29When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
30He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
World English Bible
1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
2“Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
3Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
4Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?
5Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.
6For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
8But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.
9You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,
11or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.
12“Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!
13You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
14Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’
15Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,
16who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
17who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
18Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,
20saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’
21“Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.
22Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
23If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
24Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
25The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.
26For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.
27You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.
28You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
29When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
30He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”
