1Was als Wort des HERRN an den Propheten Jeremia in betreff der (heidnischen) Völker ergangen ist:
2Über Ägypten: in betreff des Heeres des Pharaos Necho, des Königs von Ägypten, das am Euphratstrom bei Karchemisch stand und von Nebukadnezar, dem König von Babylon, im vierten Regierungsjahre des judäischen Königs Jojakim, des Sohnes Josias, geschlagen wurde:
3Rüstet Schild und Tartsche und tretet an zum Kampf!
4Schirret die Rosse an und sitzet auf, ihr Reiter! Stellt euch auf im Helmschmuck, macht die Lanzen scharf, legt euch die Panzer an!
5Warum sehe ich sie verzagt zurückweichen? Warum sind ihre Mannen mutlos und ergreifen die Flucht, ohne sich umzuwenden? »Entsetzen ringsum!« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –;
6»der Behendeste kann nicht entfliehen und der Tapferste nicht entrinnen! Dort im Norden, am Ufer des Euphratstromes, sind sie gestrauchelt und zu Fall gekommen!«
7Wer war’s doch, der wie der Nil emporstieg, daß seine Fluten wie Ströme wogten?
8Ägypten stieg wie der Nil empor, daß seine Fluten wie Ströme wogten, und es drohte: »Ich will emporsteigen, das Land überschwemmen, will Städte vertilgen samt ihren Bewohnern!«
9Stürmt heran, ihr Rosse, und rast daher, ihr Wagen! Und die Mannen mögen ausrücken, die Äthiopier und die schildbewehrten Putäer und die Luditer, die den Bogen führen und spannen!
10Ja, dieser Tag ist für Gott, den HERRN der Heerscharen, ein Tag der Rache, um seinen Widersachern zu vergelten: da frißt das Schwert, bis es satt ist, und berauscht sich an ihrem Blut, denn ein Schlachtfest hält Gott, der HERR der Heerscharen, im Nordland am Euphratstrom.
11Gehe nach Gilead hinauf und hole Balsam, jungfräuliche Tochter Ägypten! Umsonst wendest du ein Heilmittel nach dem andern an: für dich gibt’s keine Heilung mehr!
12Die Völker vernehmen deine Schande, und die Erde hallt von deinem Wehgeschrei wider; denn ein Krieger ist über den andern gefallen: miteinander sind beide niedergestürzt!
13(Dies ist) das Wort, das der HERR an den Propheten Jeremia gerichtet hat, als Nebukadnezar, der König von Babylon, kommen sollte, um das Land Ägypten niederzuwerfen:
14Verkündet es in Ägypten und ruft es in Migdol aus, ruft es auch in Memphis und Daphne aus! Gebietet: Stelle dich auf (zur Wehr) und mache dich bereit, denn schon frißt das Schwert rings um dich her!
15Warum sind deine Helden niedergeworfen? Sie haben nicht standgehalten, denn der HERR hat sie niedergestoßen.
16Er hat viele straucheln lassen; ja, einer stürzt über den andern, so daß sie ausrufen: »Auf! Laßt uns heimkehren zu unserm Volk und in unser Heimatland vor dem gewalttätigen Schwert!«
17Nennt den Namen des Pharaos, des Königs von Ägypten: ›Toben, das den richtigen Zeitpunkt versäumt hat‹.
18»So wahr ich lebe« – so lautet der Ausspruch des Königs, dessen Name ›HERR der Heerscharen‹ ist –: »Wie der Thabor unter den Bergen und wie der Karmel am Meer, so wird er heranziehen!
19Setze dir die Geräte zur Auswanderung in Bereitschaft, du Einwohnerschaft, Tochter Ägypten! Denn Memphis wird zur Einöde werden, wird eingeäschert, menschenleer!«
20Eine wunderschöne junge Kuh ist Ägypten; aber es kommt, ja es kommt die Bremse von Norden her.
21Auch seine Söldner, die es in seiner Mitte wie Mastkälber hat, ja, auch sie haben kehrt gemacht, haben sich insgesamt zur Flucht gewandt und nicht standgehalten, denn ihr Unglückstag ist über sie hereingebrochen, die Zeit ihrer Heimsuchung!
22Man hört etwas daherkommen wie das Rascheln einer Schlange, die davoneilt; denn sie rücken mit Heeresmacht heran und fallen mit Äxten über das Land her wie Holzhauer.
23»Sie hauen seinen Wald um« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, »der unübersehbar ist; denn ihrer sind mehr als der Heuschrecken, und unzählbar ist ihre Menge!«
24Zuschanden wird die Tochter Ägypten, der Gewalt des nordischen Volkes wird sie preisgegeben!
25Gesprochen hat der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: »Wisset wohl: ich halte (jetzt) Abrechnung mit dem Amon von No sowie mit dem Pharao und ganz Ägypten samt seinen Göttern und Königen, ja mit dem Pharao samt denen, die sich auf ihn verlassen.
26Und ich gebe sie in die Gewalt ihrer Todfeinde, und zwar in die Gewalt Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babylon, und in die Gewalt seiner Knechte. Nachmals aber wird das Land wieder bewohnt sein wie in den Tagen der Vorzeit« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN.
27»Du aber, fürchte dich nicht, mein Knecht Jakob, und laß dir nicht bange sein, Israel! Denn wisse wohl: ich will dich erretten aus fernen Landen und deine Kinder aus dem Lande ihrer Gefangenschaft, dann wird Jakob heimkehren und in Ruhe und Sicherheit leben, ohne daß jemand ihn aufschreckt.
28Du also, fürchte dich nicht, mein Knecht Jakob!« – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –, »ich bin ja mit dir; denn über alle Völker, unter die ich dich zerstreut habe, will ich völlige Vernichtung bringen; dich aber will ich nicht völlig vernichten, sondern dich mit Maßen züchtigen; denn ganz ungestraft kann ich dich nicht lassen.«

1PALABRA de Jehová que fué á Jeremías profeta, contra las gentes.
2En orden á Egipto: contra el ejército de Faraón Nechâo rey de Egipto, que estaba cerca del río Eufrates en Carchêmis, al cual hirió Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia el año cuarto de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá.
3Aparejad escudo y pavés, y venid á la guerra.
4Uncid caballos, y subid, vosotros los caballeros, y poneos con capacetes; limpiad las lanzas, vestíos de lorigas.
5¿Por qué los vi medrosos, tornando atrás? y sus valientes fueron deshechos, y huyeron á más huir sin volver á mirar atrás: miedo de todas partes, dice Jehová.
6No huya el ligero, ni el valiente escape; al aquilón junto á la ribera del Eufrates tropezaron y cayeron.
7¿Quién es éste que como río sube, y cuyas aguas se mueven como ríos?
8Egipto como río se hincha, y las aguas se mueven como ríos, y dijo: Subiré, cubriré la tierra, destruiré la ciudad y los que en ella moran.
9Subid, caballos, y alborotaos, carros; y salgan los valientes: los de Cus y los de Phut que toman escudo, y los de Lut que toman y entesan arco.
10Mas ese día será á Jehová Dios de los ejércitos día de venganza, para vengarse de sus enemigos: y la espada devorará y se hartará, y se embriagará de la sangre de ellos: porque matanza será á Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos, en tierra del aquilón junto al río Eufrates.
11Sube á Galaad, y toma bálsamo, virgen hija de Egipto: por demás multiplicarás medicinas; no hay cura para ti.
12Las gentes oyeron tu afrenta, y tu clamor hinchió la tierra: porque fuerte se encontró con fuerte, y cayeron ambos juntos.
13Palabra que habló Jehová á Jeremías profeta acerca de la venida de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, para herir la tierra de Egipto:
14Denunciad en Egipto, y haced saber en Migdol: haced saber también en Noph y en Taphnes; decid: Para, y apercíbete; porque espada ha de devorar tu comarca.
15¿Por qué ha sido derribado tu fuerte? no se pudo tener, porque Jehová lo rempujó.
16Multiplicó los caídos, y cada uno cayó sobre su compañero, y dijeron: Levántate y volvámonos á nuestro pueblo, y á la tierra de nuestro nacimiento, de delante de la espada vencedora.
17Allí gritaron: Faraón rey de Egipto, rey de revuelta: dejó pasar el tiempo señalado.
18Vivo yo, dice el Rey, cuyo nombre es Jehová de los ejércitos, que como Tabor entre los montes, y como Carmelo en la mar, así vendrá.
19Hazte vasos de transmigración, moradora hija de Egipto; porque Noph será por yermo, y será asolada hasta no quedar morador.
20Becerra hermosa Egipto; mas viene destrucción, del aquilón viene.
21Sus soldados también en medio de ella como engordados becerros: que también ellos se volvieron, huyeron todos sin pararse: porque vino sobre ellos el día de su quebrantamiento, el tiempo de su visitación.
22Su voz saldrá como de serpiente; porque con ejército vendrán, y con hachas vienen á ella como cortadores de leña.
23Cortaron su bosque, dice Jehová, porque no podrán ser contados; porque serán más que langostas, ni tendrán número.
24Avergonzóse la hija de Egipto; entregada será en mano del pueblo del aquilón.
25Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ha dicho: He aquí que yo visito el pueblo de Amón de No, y á Faraón y á Egipto, y á sus dioses y á sus reyes; así á Faraón como á los que en él confían.
26Y entregarélos en mano de los que buscan su alma, y en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y en mano de sus siervos: mas después será habitada como en los días pasados, dice Jehová.
27Y tú no temas, siervo mío Jacob, y no desmayes, Israel; porque he aquí que yo te salvo de lejos, y á tu simiente de la tierra de su cautividad. Y volverá Jacob, y descansará y será prosperado, y no habrá quien lo espante.
28Tú, siervo mío Jacob, no temas, dice Jehová; porque yo soy contigo: porque haré consumación en todas las gentes á las cuales te habré echado; mas en ti no haré consumación, sino que te castigaré con juicio, y no te talaré del todo.

1The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;
2Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.
3Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.
4Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines.
5Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.
6Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.
7Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?
8Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
9Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.
10For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
11Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.
12The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.
13The word that the LORD spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.
14Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee.
15Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them.
16He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.
17They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed.
18As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.
19O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.
20Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north.
21Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.
22The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.
23They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
24The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
25The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:
26And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.
27But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
28Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.

1The LORD’s word which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.
2Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah.
3“Prepare the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle!
4Harness the horses, and get up, you horsemen, and stand up with your helmets. Polish the spears, put on the coats of mail.
5Why have I seen it? They are dismayed and are turned backward. Their mighty ones are beaten down, have fled in haste, and don’t look back. Terror is on every side,” says the LORD.
6“Don’t let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape. In the north by the river Euphrates they have stumbled and fallen.
7“Who is this who rises up like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge?
8Egypt rises up like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge. He says, ‘I will rise up. I will cover the earth. I will destroy cities and its inhabitants.’
9Go up, you horses! Rage, you chariots! Let the mighty men go out: Cush and Put, who handle the shield; and the Ludim, who handle and bend the bow.
10For that day is of the Lord, GOD of Armies, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge himself of his adversaries. The sword will devour and be satiated, and will drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, GOD of Armies, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
11Go up into Gilead, and take balm, virgin daughter of Egypt. You use many medicines in vain. There is no healing for you.
12The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, they both fall together.”
13The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and strike the land of Egypt:
14“Declare in Egypt, publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes; say, ‘Stand up, and prepare, for the sword has devoured around you.’
15Why are your strong ones swept away? They didn’t stand, because the LORD pushed them.
16He made many to stumble. Yes, they fell on one another. They said, ‘Arise! Let’s go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword.’
17They cried there, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has let the appointed time pass by.’
18“As I live,” says the King, whose name is the LORD of Armies, “surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so he will come.
19You daughter who dwells in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Memphis will become a desolation, and will be burned up, without inhabitant.
20“Egypt is a very beautiful heifer; but destruction out of the north has come. It has come.
21Also her hired men in the middle of her are like calves of the stall, for they also are turned back. They have fled away together. They didn’t stand, for the day of their calamity has come on them, the time of their visitation.
22Its sound will go like the serpent, for they will march with an army, and come against her with axes, as wood cutters.
23They will cut down her forest,” says the LORD, “though it can’t be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable.
24The daughter of Egypt will be disappointed; she will be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.”
25The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods and her kings, even Pharaoh, and those who trust in him.
26I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants. Afterwards it will be inhabited, as in the days of old,” says the LORD.
27“But don’t you be afraid, Jacob my servant. Don’t be dismayed, Israel; for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return, and will be quiet and at ease. No one will make him afraid.
28Don’t be afraid, O Jacob my servant,” says the LORD, “for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you, but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.”
