1À l'Idumée, voici ce que dit le Seigneur : n'y a plus de sagesse à Théman ; le conseil a péri chez ses sages ; leur sagesse s'en est allée.
2Leur pays a été foulé ; creusez des retraites pour vous abriter, hommes de Dédam ; car le Seigneur a fait venir contre vous la destruction. J'ai amené ce peuple, dit-il, au temps où je l'ai visité ;
3Car des vendangeurs sont venus, qui ne te laisseront pas une grappe ; ils étendront la main sur toi comme des voleurs de nuit ;
4Car j'ai pillé Ésau ; j'ai découvert ses retraites cachées ; ils n'ont pu se cacher eux-mêmes. Ils ont péri par la main de leur frère et de leur voisin ; et il n'est pas possible
5Qu'il survive chez toi un seul orphelin ; quant à moi je vivrai, et les veuves ont mis en moi leur confiance.
6Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Ceux qui n'avaient point coutume de boire ce calice y boiront ; et, coupable, tu ne seras pas impuni.
7J'ai juré par moi-même, dit le Seigneur, que tu serais, au milieu de la terre, inhabitée, outragée et maudite ; et toutes tes villes seront désertes dans tous les siècles.
8J'ai entendu une voix venant du Seigneur, et il a envoyé des messagers aux nations, disant : Rassemblez-vous, marchez contre Édom ; levez-vous pour le combattre.
9Je t'ai rendu petit parmi les nations, méprisable parmi les hommes.
10Tes plaisirs t'ont séduit, et l'audace de ton cœur ; Édom s'est logé dans le creux des rochers ; il s'est emparé de la force des hautes collines ; il a placé haut son nid comme l'aigle ; c'est de là que je te précipiterai ;
11Et l'Idumée sera un désert, et le passant sifflera sur elle.
12Voilà comme ont été bouleversées Sodome et Gomorrhe et les villes voisines, dit le Seigneur tout-puissant ; nul homme ne s'y reposera ; nul fils de l'homme n'y demeurera.
13Voilà que contre elle l'ennemi va bondir comme un lion bondit du Jourdain à Étham ; car je le conduirai promptement contre elle ; dirigez vos jeunes guerriers contre l'Idumée : car qui est semblable à moi ? Qui me résistera ? Quel pasteur se placera devant moi face à face ?
14À cause de cela, écoutez le conseil que le Seigneur a tenu contre l'Idumée et contre ceux de Théman : Je jure que leurs moindres brebis périront, et que leur demeure sera pour eux inhabitable.
15La terre a été effrayée du bruit de leur chute, et l'on n'y a plus entendu la voix de la mer.
16Voilà que l'ennemi va regarder comme l'aigle ; puis il étendra ses ailes sur les forteresses d'Édom, et le cœur des forts de l'Idumée sera en ce jour comme le cœur d'une femme qui enfante.
17Voici ce que dit le Seigneur aux fils d'Ammon : N'y a-t-il point de fils en Israël ? N'y a-t-il point chez eux d'héritiers ? Pourquoi donc Melchol s'est-il emparé de Galaad, et a-t-il établi son peuple dans ses villes ?
18À cause de cela, voilà que les jours arrivent, dit le Seigneur, où je ferai entendre sur Rabbath le tumulte de la guerre, et ce ne sera plus qu'une ruine et un désert, et ses autels seront brûlés par le feu, et Israël héritera de sa principauté.
19Pousse des gémissements, Ésebon ; car Haï est détruite ; criez, filles de Rabbath, ceignez des cilices et frappez-vous la poitrine, parce que Melchol sera banni, et avec lui ses prêtres et ses princes.
20Pourquoi vous réjouissez-vous dans les plaines d'Énacim ; et toi aussi, fille de l'orgueil, qui te confies en tes trésors, disant : Qui donc marchera contre moi ?
21C'est moi qui t'apporterai l'épouvante, dit le Seigneur, de tous les pays qui t'environnent ; et devant eux vous vous disperserez tous, et nul ne vous rassemblera.
22À Cédar, reine du palais, qui a frappé Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Levez-vous et marchez sur Cédar, et rassasiez les fils de Cedem.

25Fuyez, creusez des retraites profondes pour vous cacher, vous qui êtes assis dans le palais, parce que le roi de Babylone a tenu conseil et pris des résolutions contre vous.
26Lève-toi et marche sur une nation tranquillement assise dans le repos, sans portes, sans verrous, sans barrières, seule à l'écart.
27Et ses chameaux seront ton butin, la multitude de son bétail sera détruite ; et je les vannerai à tous les vents, ces hommes qui se coupent la chevelure au dessus du front ; je leur apporterai le bouleversement de toutes leurs frontières, dit le Seigneur.
28Et leur palais sera le séjour des autruches et il sera à jamais désert ; nul homme ne s'y reposera ; nul fils des hommes n'y demeurera.
29A Damas, Émath et Arphath sont dans la confusion, parce qu'elles ont entendu une nouvelle funeste ; elles sont stupéfaites, elles sont furieuses et ne peuvent plus se tenir en repos.
30Damas a perdu courage ; elle s'est enfuie ; elle a été prise de terreur.
31Pourquoi n'a et-elle pas épargné ma ville, le lieu que j'aime ?
32À cause de cela, tes jeunes gens tomberont au milieu de tes places, et tous tes hommes de guerre périront, dit le Seigneur.
33Et je mettrai le feu aux remparts de Damas, et il dévorera les carrefours du fils d'Ader.

1PALABRA que fué á Jeremías de Jehová, diciendo:
2Así habló Jehová Dios de Israel, diciendo: Escríbete en un libro todas las palabras que te he hablado.
3Porque he aquí que vienen días, dice Jehová, en que tornaré la cautividad de mi pueblo Israel y Judá, ha dicho Jehová, y harélos volver á la tierra que dí á sus padres, y la poseerán.
4Estas pues son las palabras que habló Jehová acerca de Israel y de Judá.
5Porque así ha dicho Jehová: Hemos oído voz de temblor: espanto, y no paz.
6Preguntad ahora, y mirad si pare el varón: porque he visto que todo hombre tenía las manos sobre sus lomos, como mujer de parto, y hanse tornado pálidos todos los rostros.
7¡Ah, cuán grande es aquel día! tanto, que no hay otro semejante á él: tiempo de angustia para Jacob; mas de ella será librado.
8Y será en aquel día, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, que yo quebraré su yugo de tu cuello, y romperé tus coyundas, y extraños no lo volverán más á poner en servidumbre,
9Sino que servirán á Jehová su Dios, y á David su rey, el cual les levantaré.
10Tú pues, siervo mío Jacob, no temas, dice Jehová, ni te atemorices, Israel: porque he aquí que yo soy el que te salvo de lejos, y á tu simiente de la tierra de su cautividad; y Jacob tornará, y descansará y sosegará, y no habrá quien le espante.
11Porque yo soy contigo, dice Jehová, para salvarte: y haré consumación en todas las gentes entre la cuales te esparcí; en ti empero no haré consumación, sino que te castigaré con juicio, y no te talaré del todo.
12Porque así ha dicho Jehová: Desahuciado es tu quebrantamiento, y dificultosa tu llaga.
13No hay quien juzgue tu causa para salud: no hay para ti eficaces medicamentos.
14Todos tus enamorados te olvidaron; no te buscan; porque de herida de enemigo te herí, con azote de cruel, á causa de la muchedumbre de tu maldad, y de la multitud de tus pecados.
15¿Por qué gritas á causa de tu quebrantamiento? Desahuciado es tu dolor: porque por la grandeza de tu iniquidad, y por tus muchos pecados te he hecho esto.
16Empero serán consumidos todos los que te consumen; y todos tus afligidores, todos irán en cautiverio; y hollados serán los que te hollaron, y á todos los que hicieron presa de ti daré en presa.
17Mas yo haré venir sanidad para ti, y te sanaré de tus heridas, dice Jehová; porque Arrojada te llamaron, diciendo: Esta es Sión, á la que nadie busca.
18Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo hago tornar la cautividad de las tiendas de Jacob, y de sus tiendas tendré misericordia; y la ciudad será edificada sobre su collado, y el templo será asentado según su forma.
19Y saldrá de ellos alabanza, y voz de gente que está en regocijo: y los multiplicaré, y no serán disminuídos; multiplicarélos, y no serán menoscabados.
20Y serán sus hijos como de primero y su congregación delante de mí será confirmada; y visitaré á todos sus opresores.
21Y de él será su fuerte, y de en medio de él saldrá su enseñoreador; y haréle llegar cerca, y acercaráse á mí: porque ¿quién es aquel que ablandó su corazón para llegarse á mí? dice Jehová.
22Y me seréis por pueblo, y yo seré vuestro Dios.
23He aquí, la tempestad de Jehová sale con furor, la tempestad que se apareja; sobre la cabeza de los impíos reposará.
24No se volverá la ira del enojo de Jehová, hasta que haya hecho y cumplido los pensamientos de su corazón: en el fin de los días entenderéis esto.

1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.
3For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
4And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
5For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
6Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
7Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.
8For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:
9But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
10Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
11For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
12For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.
13There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.
14All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.
15Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.
16Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.
17For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.
18Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
19And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
20Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.
21And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
22And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
23Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.
24The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.

15Why do you cry over your injury? Your pain is incurable. For the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.
16Therefore all those who devour you will be devoured. All your adversaries, everyone of them, will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will be plunder. I will make all who prey on you become prey.
17For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD, “because they have called you an outcast, saying, ‘It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’”
18The LORD says: “Behold, I will reverse the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places. The city will be built on its own hill, and the palace will be inhabited in its own place.
19Thanksgiving will proceed out of them with the voice of those who make merry. I will multiply them, and they will not be few; I will also glorify them, and they will not be small.
20Their children also will be as before, and their congregation will be established before me. I will punish all who oppress them.
21Their prince will be one of them, and their ruler will proceed from among them. I will cause him to draw near, and he will approach me; for who is he who has had boldness to approach me?” says the LORD.
22“You shall be my people, and I will be your God.
23Behold, the LORD’s storm, his wrath, has gone out, a sweeping storm; it will burst on the head of the wicked.
24The fierce anger of the LORD will not return until he has accomplished, and until he has performed the intentions of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it.”
