2Pour l'Égypte contre l'armée du Pharaon Néchao, roi d'Égypte, qui était en Charcamis sur l'Euphrate, et que vainquit Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, la quatrième année du règne de Joakim, roi de Juda :
3Prenez vos armures et vos boucliers, et partez pour la guerre.
4Harnachez les chevaux, cavaliers ; montez-les ; mettez vos casques ; faites vibrer vos javelines et revêtez-vous de vos cuirasses.
5Pourquoi tremblent-ils et tournent-ils le dos ? Parce que leurs forts seront taillés en pièces ; ils ont pris la fuite ; ils ne se sont point retournés ; ils sont entourés de toutes parts, dit le Seigneur.
6L'homme agile n'échappera point ; le fort ne se sauvera point du côté de l'aquilon ; les nations que baigne l'Euphrate ont été impuissantes, et elles sont tombées.
7Quel est celui qui déborde comme un fleuve, et comment les fleuves roulent-ils une onde agitée ?
8Les eaux de l'Égypte monteront comme un fleuve ; elle a dit : Je monterai et je couvrirai la terre, et je ferai périr ses habitants.
9Montez à cheval, guerriers de l'Éthiopie ; Libyens couverts d'armures, préparez vos chars, sortez, et vous, Lydiens, partez et tendez vos arcs.
10Ce jour est pour le Seigneur notre Dieu un jour de vengeance ; il va punir ses ennemis. Et le glaive du Seigneur dévorera, et il se rassasiera, et il s'enivrera de leur sang ; car il y a un sacrifice au Seigneur, un sacrifice de la terre de l'aquilon, sur le fleuve Euphrate.
11Va, Galaad, prends du baume pour la vierge, fille de l'Égypte ; ô Égypte, tu as vainement multiplié tes remèdes ; il n'est rien en toi qui puisse te guérir !
12Les nations ont entendu ta voix ; et la terre a été remplie de ta clameur, parce que combattants contre combattants ont été blessés, et au même instant ils sont tombés tous les deux.
13Prophéties que le Seigneur a dites par la voix de Jérémie, concernant la venue du roi de Babylone, pour frapper la terre d'Égypte.
14Proclamez-le à Magdolon, annoncez-le à Memphis, dites : Lève-toi et te prépare ; car le glaive a dévoré tes ifs.
15Pourquoi donc ton Apis s'est-il enfui, ce bœuf que tu avais choisi ? Il n'est point demeuré en place, parce que le Seigneur l'a délié.
16Et la multitude a perdu sa force, et elle est tombée ; et ils se sont dit entre eux : Levons-nous et retournons à notre peuple ; fuyons loin du glaive hellénique.
17Donnez au Pharaon Néchao, roi d'Égypte, le nom de Saon Esbéié Moed.
18Par ma vie, dit le Seigneur Dieu, il viendra, aussi vrai que le Thabor est une montagne, et que le Carmel est auprès de la mer.
19Prépare pour toi l'appareil de l'esclavage, fille de l'Égypte ; car Memphis sera désolée, et je l'appellerai Malheur, parce qu'il n'y restera plus d'habitants.
20L'Égypte est une belle génisse ; l'esclavage lui vient de l'aquilon.
21Pourquoi ses mercenaires, nourris chez elle comme les bœufs à l'engrais, ont-ils tourné le dos et se sont-ils enfuis tous ensemble ? Ils n'ont point résisté, parce que le jour de la destruction est venu pour eux, et le temps de la vengeance.
22Leur voix ressemble au sifflement du dragon ; ils s'avancent sur le sable, et ils viendront en portant des haches,
23Comme des bûcherons ; ils abattront sa forêt, dit le Seigneur ; car on ne peut les compter, ils sont plus nombreux qu'une nuée de sauterelles, et leur multitude est innombrable.
24La fille de l'Égypte a été confondue ; elle a été livrée aux mains d'un peuple de l'aquilon.
25Et moi, voilà que je vais punir Ammon, son fils, en frappant le Pharaon, et tous ceux qui mettent en lui leur confiance.
27Pour toi, ne crains rien, Jacob, mon serviteur ; ne tremble pas, Israël ; car me voici, moi qui te sauve de loin et qui ramènerai ta race de sa captivité. Et Jacob reviendra, et il sera en repos, et il dormira, et nul ne le troublera.
28N'aie point peur, Jacob mon serviteur, dit le Seigneur, car je suis avec toi ; celle qui ne craignait rien et qui vivait dans la mollesse a été livrée, parce que je perdrai toute nation chez qui je t'ai banni. Mais toi, je ne te ferai point périr ; seulement je te châtierai selon la justice, et coupable, je ne te laisserai pas impuni.

1EN el principio del reinado de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, fué esta palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
2Así ha dicho Jehová: Ponte en el atrio de la casa de Jehová, y habla á todas las ciudades de Judá, que vienen para adorar en la casa de Jehová, todas las palabras que yo te mandé les hablases; no retengas palabra.
3Quizá oirán, y se tornarán cada uno de su mal camino; y arrepentiréme yo del mal que pienso hacerles por la maldad de sus obras.
4Les dirás pues: Así ha dicho Jehová: Si no me oyereis para andar en mi ley, la cual dí delante de vosotros,
5Para atender á las palabras de mis siervos los profetas que yo os envío, madrugando en enviarlos, á los cuales no habéis oído;
6Yo pondré esta casa como Silo, y daré esta ciudad en maldición á todas las gentes de la tierra.
7Y los sacerdotes, los profetas, y todo el pueblo, oyeron á Jeremías hablar estas palabras en la casa de Jehová.
8Y fué que, acabando de hablar Jeremías todo lo que Jehová le había mandado que hablase á todo el pueblo, los sacerdotes y los profetas y todo el pueblo le echaron mano, diciendo: De cierto morirás.
9¿Por qué has profetizado en nombre de Jehová, diciendo: Esta casa será como Silo, y esta ciudad será asolada hasta no quedar morador? Y juntóse todo el pueblo contra Jeremías en la casa de Jehová.
10Y los príncipes de Judá oyeron estas cosas, y subieron de casa del rey á la casa de Jehová; y sentáronse en la entrada de la puerta nueva de Jehová.
11Entonces hablaron los sacerdotes y los profetas á los príncipes y á todo el pueblo, diciendo: En pena de muerte ha incurrido este hombre; porque profetizó contra esta ciudad, como vosotros habéis oído con vuestros oídos.
12Y habló Jeremías á todos los príncipes y á todo el pueblo, diciendo: Jehová me envió á que profetizase contra esta casa y contra esta ciudad, todas las palabras que habéis oído.
13Y ahora, mejorad vuestros caminos y vuestras obras, y oid la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios, y arrepentiráse Jehová del mal que ha hablado contra vosotros.
14En lo que á mí toca, he aquí estoy en vuestras manos: haced de mí como mejor y más recto os pareciere.
15Mas sabed de cierto que, si me matareis, sangre inocente echaréis sobre vosotros, y sobre esta ciudad, y sobre sus moradores: porque en verdad Jehová me envió á vosotros para que dijese todas estas palabras en vuestros oídos.
16Y dijeron los príncipes y todo el pueblo á los sacerdotes y profetas. No ha incurrido este hombre en pena de muerte, porque en nombre de Jehová nuestro Dios nos ha hablado.
17Entonces se levantaron ciertos de los ancianos de la tierra, y hablaron á toda la junta del pueblo, diciendo:
18Miqueas de Morasti profetizó en tiempo de Ezechîas rey de Judá, diciendo: Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Sión será arada como campo, y Jerusalem vendrá á ser montones, y el monte del templo en cumbres de bosque.
19¿Matáronlo luego Ezechîas rey de Judá y todo Judá? ¿no temió á Jehová, y oró en presencia de Jehová, y Jehová se arrepintió del mal que había hablado contra ellos? ¿Haremos pues nosotros tan grande mal contra nuestras almas?
20Hubo también un hombre que profetizaba en nombre de Jehová, Urías, hijo de Semaías de Chîriath-jearim, el cual profetizó contra esta ciudad y contra esta tierra, conforme á todas las palabras de Jeremías:
21Y oyó sus palabras el rey Joacim, y todos sus grandes, y todos sus príncipes, y el rey procuró de matarle; lo cual entendiendo Urías, tuvo temor, y huyó, y metióse en Egipto:
22Y el rey Joacim envió hombres á Egipto, á Elnathán hijo de Acbor, y otros hombres con él, á Egipto;
23Los cuales sacaron á Urías de Egipto, y lo trajeron al rey Joacim, é hiriólo á cuchillo, y echó su cuerpo en los sepulcros del vulgo.
24La mano empero de Ahicam hijo de Saphán era con Jeremías, porque no lo entregasen en las manos del pueblo para matarlo.

1In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,
2Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
3If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
4And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,
5To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;
6Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
7So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
8Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
9Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
10When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house.
11Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
12Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.
13Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.
14As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.
15But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
16Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
17Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,
18Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
19Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.
20And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:
21And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;
22And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.
23And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
24Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

2“The LORD says: ‘Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Don’t omit a word.
3It may be they will listen, and every man turn from his evil way, that I may relent from the evil which I intend to do to them because of the evil of their doings.’”
4You shall tell them, “The LORD says: ‘If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law which I have set before you,
5to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you, even rising up early and sending them—but you have not listened—
6then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.’”

8When Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You shall surely die!
9Why have you prophesied in the LORD’s name, saying, ‘This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant’?” All the people were crowded around Jeremiah in the LORD’s house.
10When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the LORD’s house; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house.
11Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying, “This man is worthy of death, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”
12Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and to all the people, saying, “The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.
13Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the LORD your God’s voice; then the LORD will relent from the evil that he has pronounced against you.

19Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Didn’t he fear the LORD, and entreat the favor of the LORD, and the LORD relented of the disaster which he had pronounced against them? We would commit great evil against our own souls that way!”
20There was also a man who prophesied in the LORD’s name, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath Jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah.
21When Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men and all the princes heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt.
22Then Jehoiakim the king sent Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him into Egypt.
23They fetched Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
