Jeremías 14

1La parole de l’Eternel, qui fut adressée à Jérémie, sur ce que les pluies avaient été retenues.
2La Judée a mené deuil, et ses portes sont en un pitoyable état. Ils sont tous en deuil gisant par terre, et le cri de Jérusalem est monté au ciel.
3Et les personnes distinguées ont envoyé à l’eau les moindres d’entre eux ; ils sont venus aux lieux creux, ils n’y ont point trouvé d’eau, et ils s’en sont retournés leurs vaisseaux vides ; ils ont été rendus honteux et confus, et ils ont couvert leur tête.
4Parce que la terre s’est crevassée à cause qu’il n’y a point eu de pluie au pays ; les laboureurs ont été rendus honteux, et ils ont couvert leur tête.
5Même la biche a fait son faon au champ et l’a abandonné, parce qu’il n’y a point d’herbe.
6Et les ânes sauvages se sont tenus sur les lieux élevés, ils ont attiré l’air comme des dragons ; leurs yeux sont consumés, parce qu’il n’y a point d’herbe.
7Eternel, si nos iniquités rendent témoignage contre nous, agis à cause de ton Nom, car nos rébellions sont multipliées ; c’est contre toi que nous avons péché.
8Toi qui es l’attente d’Israël, et son libérateur au temps de la détresse, pourquoi serais-tu en la terre comme un étranger, et comme un voyageur qui se détourne pour passer la nuit ?
9Pourquoi serais-tu comme un homme étonné, et comme un homme fort qui ne peut délivrer ? Or tu es au milieu de nous, ô Eternel ! et ton Nom est réclamé sur nous ; ne nous abandonne point.
10L’Eternel a dit ainsi à ce peuple, parce qu’ils ont aimé à aller ainsi çà et là, et qu’ils n’ont point retenu leurs pieds, l’Eternel n’a point pris plaisir en eux, il se souviendra maintenant de leurs iniquités, et il punira leurs péchés.
11Puis l’Eternel me dit : ne fais point de requête en faveur de ce peuple.
12Quand ils jeûneront, je n’exaucerai point leur cri, et quand ils offriront des holocaustes et des oblations, je n’y prendrai point de plaisir ; mais je les consumerai par l’épée, et par la famine, et par la mortalité.
13Et je dis : ah ! ah ! Seigneur Eternel ! voici, les Prophètes leur disent : vous ne verrez point l’épée, et vous n’aurez point de famine, mais je vous donnerai une paix assurée en ce lieu-ci.
14Et l’Eternel me dit : ce n’est que mensonge ce que ces prophètes prophétisent en mon Nom ; je ne les ai point envoyés, je ne leur ai point donné de charge, et je ne leur ai point parlé ; ils vous prophétisent des visions de mensonge, des divinations de néant, et des tromperies de leur coeur.
15C’est pourquoi, ainsi a dit l’Eternel touchant les prophètes qui prophétisent en mon Nom, et que je n’ai point envoyés, et qui disent : l’épée ni la famine ne sera point en ce pays ; ces prophètes-là seront consumés par l’épée et par la famine.
16Et le peuple auquel ils ont prophétisé sera jeté par les rues de Jérusalem à cause de la famine et de l’épée ; et il n’y aura personne qui les ensevelisse, tant eux que leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles, et je répandrai sur eux leur méchanceté.
17Tu leur diras donc cette parole-ci : que mes yeux se fondent en larmes nuit et jour, et qu’ils ne cessent point ; car la vierge, fille de mon peuple, a été fort maltraitée, la plaie en est fort douloureuse.
18Si je sors aux champs, voici les gens morts par l’épée ; et si j’entre en la ville, voici les langueurs de la faim ; même le Prophète et le Sacrificateur ont couru par le pays, et ils ne savent où ils en sont.
19Aurais-tu entièrement rejeté Juda ? et ton âme aurait-elle Sion en dédain ? Pourquoi nous as-tu frappés tellement qu’il n’y a point de guérison ? on attend la paix, et il n’y a rien de bon ; et le temps de la guérison, et voici le trouble.
20Eternel, nous reconnaissons notre méchanceté, et l’iniquité de nos pères ; car nous avons péché contre toi.
21Ne nous rejette point à cause de ton Nom, et n’expose point à opprobre le trône de ta gloire ; souviens-toi de ton alliance avec nous, et ne la romps point.
22Parmi les vanités des nations y en a-t-il qui fassent pleuvoir, et les cieux donnent-ils la menue pluie ? N’est-ce pas toi qui le fais, ô Eternel notre Dieu ? C’est pourquoi nous nous attendrons à toi ; car c’est toi qui as fait toutes ces choses.

1PALABRA de Jehová que fué á Jeremías, con motivo de la sequía.
2Enlutóse Judá, y sus puertas se despoblaron: oscureciéronse en tierra, y subió el clamor de Jerusalem.
3Y los principales de ellos enviaron sus criados al agua: vinieron á las lagunas, y no hallaron agua: volviéronse con sus vasos vacíos; se avergonzaron, confundiéronse, y cubrieron sus cabezas.
4Porque se resquebrajó la tierra á causa de no llover en el país; confusos los labradores, cubrieron sus cabezas.
5Y aun las ciervas en los campos parían, y dejaban la cría, porque no había hierba.
6Y los asnos monteses se ponían en los altos, aspiraban el viento como los chacales; sus ojos se ofuscaron, porque no había hierba.
7Si nuestras iniquidades testifican contra nosotros, oh Jehová, haz por amor de tu nombre; porque nuestras rebeliones se han multiplicado, contra ti pecamos.
8Oh esperanza de Israel, Guardador suyo en el tiempo de la aflicción, ¿por qué has de ser como peregrino en la tierra, y como caminante que se aparta para tener la noche?
9¿Por qué has de ser como hombre atónito, y como valiente que no puede librar? tú empero estás entre nosotros, oh Jehová, y sobre nosotros es invocado tu nombre; no nos desampares.
10Así ha dicho Jehová á este pueblo: Así amaron moverse, ni detuvieron sus pies: por tanto, Jehová no los tiene en voluntad; acordaráse ahora de la maldad de ellos, y visitará sus pecados.
11Y díjome Jehová: No ruegues por este pueblo para bien.
12Cuando ayunaren, yo no oiré su clamor, y cuando ofrecieren holocausto y ofrenda, no lo aceptaré; antes los consumiré con cuchillo, y con hambre, y con pestilencia.
13Y yo dije: ¡Ah! ah! Señor Jehová! he aquí que los profetas les dicen: No veréis cuchillo, ni habrá hambre en vosotros, sino que en este lugar os daré paz verdadera.
14Díjome entonces Jehová: Falso profetizan los profetas en mi nombre: no los envié, ni les mandé, ni les hablé: visión mentirosa, y adivinación, y vanidad, y engaño de su corazón os profetizan.
15Por tanto así ha dicho Jehová sobre los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre, los cuales yo no envié, y que dicen, Cuchillo ni hambre no habrá en esta tierra: Con cuchillo y con hambre serán consumidos esos profetas.
16Y el pueblo á quien profetizan, echado será en las calles de Jerusalem por hambre y por espada; y no habrá quien los entierre, ellos, y sus mujeres, y sus hijos, y sus hijas; y sobre ellos derramaré su maldad.
17Decirles has, pues, esta palabra: Córranse mis ojos en lágrimas noche y día, y no cesen; porque de gran quebrantamiento es quebrantada la virgen hija de mi pueblo, de plaga muy recia.
18Si salgo al campo, he aquí muertos á cuchillo; y si me entro en la ciudad, he aquí enfermos de hambre: porque también el profeta como el sacerdote anduvieron rodeando en la tierra, y no conocieron.
19¿Has desechado enteramente á Judá? ¿ha aborrecido tu alma á Sión? ¿Por qué nos hiciste herir sin que nos quede cura? Esperamos paz, y no hubo bien; tiempo de cura, y he aquí turbación.
20Reconocemos, oh Jehová, nuestra impiedad, la iniquidad de nuestros padres: porque contra ti hemos pecado.
21Por amor de tu nombre no nos deseches, ni trastornes el trono de tu gloria: acuérdate, no invalides tu pacto con nosotros.
22¿Hay entre las vanidades de las gentes quien haga llover? ¿y darán los cielos lluvias? ¿No eres tú, Jehová, nuestro Dios? en ti pues esperamos; pues tú hiciste todas estas cosas.

1The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.
2Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
3And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.
4Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.
5Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.
6And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
7O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.
8O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?
9Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
10Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
11Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.
12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.
13Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.
14Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
15Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
16And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
17Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.
18If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
19Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!
20We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.
21Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
22Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

1This is the LORD’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
2“Judah mourns, and its gates languish. They sit in black on the ground. The cry of Jerusalem goes up.
3Their nobles send their little ones to the waters. They come to the cisterns, and find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
4Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed. They cover their heads.
5Yes, the doe in the field also calves and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
6The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.
7Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, LORD; for our rebellions are many. We have sinned against you.
8You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
9Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, LORD, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
10The LORD says to this people: “Even so they have loved to wander. They have not restrained their feet. Therefore the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish them for their sins.”
11The LORD said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.
12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
13Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets tell them, ‘You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”
14Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
15Therefore the LORD says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn’t send them, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine.
16The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. They will have no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
17“You shall say this word to them: “‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
18If I go out into the field, then behold, the slain with the sword! If I enter into the city, then behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’”
19Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul loathed Zion? Why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
20We acknowledge, LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
21Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, and don’t break your covenant with us.
