1Seigneur, vous êtes juste ; aussi je me défendrai devant vous ; je vous demanderai justice. Pourquoi la voie des impies est-elle prospère ? pourquoi ceux qui vous ont répudié sont-ils florissants ?
2Vous les avez plantés, et ils ont pris racine ; ils ont engendré, et ils ont produit des fruits. Vous êtes près de leur bouche, et loin de leurs reins.
3Et vous, Seigneur, vous me connaissez, vous avez devant vous éprouvé mon cœur ; purifiez-les pour le jour de leur égorgement.
4Jusques à quand la terre sera-t-elle en deuil avec des pâturages et des champs desséchés par la malice de ceux qui l'habitent ? Les oiseaux et le bétail ont été détruits, parce que les hommes ont dit : Dieu ne verra point. nos voies.
5Tes pieds courent, et te voilà énervé ; comment feras-tu donc pour combattre des cavaliers et te confier dans une terre de paix ? Que feras-tu contre les débordements du Jourdain ?
6Tes frères eux-mêmes et la maison de ton père t'ont méprisé ; ils ont eux- mêmes crié contre toi, ils se sont donc unis à ceux qui te poursuivaient par derrière ; ne te fie pas à eux, quoiqu'ils te disent de belles paroles.
7J'ai abandonné ma maison ; j'ai renoncé à mon héritage ; j'ai livré aux mains de ses ennemis celle qui était ma bien-aimée et ma vie.
8Mon héritage est devenu contre moi comme le lion dans une forêt ; il a rugi contre moi ; à cause de cela je l'ai pris en haine.
9Mon héritage est-il pour moi un antre d'hyène ou l'enceinte d'une caverne ? Allez, rassemblez toutes les bêtes fauves de la terre, et qu'elles viennent dévorer mon héritage.
10Maints pasteurs ont ravagé ma vigne ; ils ont souillé mon partage ; ils ont fait de ma part bien-aimée un désert sans chemin.
11Elle a été livrée au ravage et à la dévastation. Toute la terre a été frappée de ruine à cause de moi, parce que nul homme n'a souci de moi en son cœur.
12Ceux qui la dévastaient sont venus par toutes les voies du désert, parce que le glaive du Seigneur va dévorer la terre d'une extrémité à l'autre ; il n'est plus de paix pour aucune chair.
13Semez des froments, et vous récolterez des chardons ; leur part d'héritage ne leur rapportera rien ; soyez confondus à cause de votre orgueil et de vos outrages à la face du Seigneur.
14Car ainsi parle le Seigneur contre tous les méchants voisins qui touchent à mon héritage, que j'ai distribué à mon peuple d'Israël : Voilà que je vais les arracher de leur terre, et je rejetterai Juda du milieu d'eux.
15Et voici ce qui arrivera : après les avoir bannis, je changerai, et j'aurai pitié d'eux, et je les ferai rentrer dans leurs demeures, chacun dans son héritage et chacun dans son champ.
16Et ceci arrivera encore : s'ils s'instruisent, s'ils apprennent la voie de mon peuple, et à jurer en mon nom : Vive le Seigneur ! comme ils avaient enseigné mon peuple à jurer par le nom de Baal, ils seront édifiés au milieu de mon peuple.
17Et s'il est une de ces nations qui ne se convertisse pas, je la détruirai, et elle sera perdue à jamais.

1JUSTO eres tú, oh Jehová, aunque yo contigo dispute: hablaré empero juicios contigo. ¿Por qué es prosperado el camino de los impíos, y tienen bien todos los que se portan deslealmente?
2Plantástelos, y echaron raíces; progresaron, é hicieron fruto; cercano estás tú en sus bocas, mas lejos de sus riñones.
3Tú empero, oh Jehová, me conoces; vísteme, y probaste mi corazón para contigo: arráncalos como á ovejas para el degolladero, y señálalos para el día de la matanza.
4¿Hasta cuándo estará desierta la tierra, y marchita la hierba de todo el campo? Por la maldad de los que en ella moran, faltaron los ganados, y las aves; porque dijeron: No verá él nuestras postrimerías.
5Si corriste con los de á pie, y te cansaron, ¿cómo contenderás con los caballos? Y si en la tierra de paz estabas quieto, ¿cómo harás en la hinchazón del Jordán?
6Porque aun tus hermanos y la casa de tu padre, aun ellos se levantaron contra ti, aun ellos dieron voces en pos de ti. No los creas, cuando bien te hablaren.
7He dejado mi casa, desamparé mi heredad, entregado he lo que amaba mi alma en manos de sus enemigos.
8Fué para mí mi heredad como león en breña: contra mí dió su voz; por tanto la aborrecí.
9¿Esme mi heredad ave de muchos colores? ¿no están contra ella aves en derredor? Venid, reuníos, vosotras todas las bestias del campo, venid á devorarla.
10Muchos pastores han destruído mi viña, hollaron mi heredad, tornaron en desierto y soledad mi heredad preciosa.
11Fué puesta en asolamiento, y lloró sobre mí, asolada: fué asolada toda la tierra, porque no hubo hombre que mirase.
12Sobre todos los lugares altos del desierto vinieron disipadores: porque la espada de Jehová devorará desde el un extremo de la tierra hasta el otro extremo: no habrá paz para ninguna carne.
13Sembraron trigo, y segarán espinas; tuvieron la heredad, mas no aprovecharon nada: se avergonzarán de vuestros frutos, á causa de la ardiente ira de Jehová.
14Así dijo Jehová contra todos mis malos vecinos, que tocan la heredad que hice poseer á mi pueblo Israel: He aquí que yo los arrancaré de su tierra, y arrancaré de en medio de ellos la casa de Judá.
15Y será que, después que los hubiere arrancado, tornaré y tendré misericordia de ellos, y harélos volver cada uno á su heredad, y cada cual á su tierra.
16Y será que, si cuidadosamente aprendieren los caminos de mi pueblo, para jurar en mi nombre, diciendo, Vive Jehová, así como enseñaron á mi pueblo á jurar por Baal; ellos serán prosperados en medio de mi pueblo.
17Mas si no oyeren, arrancaré á la tal gente, sacándola de raíz, y destruyendo, dice Jehová.

1Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?
2Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
3But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
4How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.
5If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
6For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
7I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
8Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.
9Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.
10Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
11They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
12The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD shall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.
13They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
14Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.
15And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
16And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
17But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the LORD.
World English Bible
1You are righteous, LORD, when I contend with you; yet I would like to plead a case with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?
2You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.
3But you, LORD, know me. You see me, and test my heart toward you. Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
4How long will the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? Because of the wickedness of those who dwell therein, the animals and birds are consumed; because they said, “He won’t see our latter end.”
5“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? Though in a land of peace you are secure, yet how will you do in the pride of the Jordan?
6For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you! Even they have cried aloud after you! Don’t believe them, though they speak beautiful words to you.
7“I have forsaken my house. I have cast off my heritage. I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
8My heritage has become to me as a lion in the forest. She has uttered her voice against me. Therefore I have hated her.
9Is my heritage to me as a speckled bird of prey? Are the birds of prey against her all around? Go, assemble all the animals of the field. Bring them to devour.
10Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard. They have trodden my portion under foot. They have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
11They have made it a desolation. It mourns to me, being desolate. The whole land is made desolate, because no one cares.
12Destroyers have come on all the bare heights in the wilderness; for the sword of the LORD devours from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land. No flesh has peace.
13They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns. They have exhausted themselves, and profit nothing. You will be ashamed of your fruits, because of the LORD’s fierce anger.”
14The LORD says, “Concerning all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: Behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.
15It will happen that after I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them. I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
16It will happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As the LORD lives;’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they will be built up in the middle of my people.
17But if they will not hear, then I will pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it,” says the LORD.
