ABIMELECH aber, der Sohn Jerubbaals, ging nach Sichem zu den Brüdern seiner Mutter und redete zu ihnen und zu dem ganzen Geschlechte der Familie seiner Mutter also:

Y FUÉSE Abimelech hijo de Jerobaal á Sichêm, á los hermanos de su madre, y habló con ellos, y con toda la familia de la casa del padre de su madre, diciendo:

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,

Sprecht doch zu allen Bürgern von Sichem: Was ist besser für euch? dass siebzig Männer, alle Söhne Jerubbaals, über euch herrschen oder dass ein Mann über euch herrsche? Denkt auch daran, dass ich von eurem Fleisch und Bein bin!

Yo os ruego que habléis á oídos de todos los de Sichêm: ¿Qué tenéis por mejor, que os señoreen setenta hombres, todos los hijos de Jerobaal; ó que os señoree un varón? Acordaos que yo soy hueso vuestro, y carne vuestra.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

“Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”

Da legten die Brüder seiner Mutter seine ganze Sache allen Bürgern von Sichem vor, und ihr Herz neigte sich Abimelech zu; denn sie sagten sich: Er ist unser Stammesgenosse.

Y hablaron por él los hermanos de su madre á oídos de todos los de Sichêm todas estas palabras: y el corazón de ellos se inclinó en favor de Abimelech, porque decían: Nuestro hermano es.

And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

Aber der Ölbaum antwortete ihnen: / Soll ich meine Fettigkeit lassen, / mit der man Götter und Menschen ehrt, / und hingehen, über den Bäumen zu schweben? /

Mas la oliva respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi pingüe jugo, con el que por mi causa Dios y los hombres son honrados, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Da sprachen die Bäume zum Feigenbaum: / So komm du und sei unser König! /

Y respondió la higuera: ¿Tengo de dejar mi dulzura y mi buen fruto, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“But the fig tree said to them, ‘Should I leave my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Da sprachen alle Bäume zum Dornbusch: / So komm du und sei unser König! /

Dijeron entonces todos los árboles al escaramujo: Anda tú, reina sobre nosotros.

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

Und der Dornbusch sprach zu den Bäumen: / Wollt ihr in Wahrheit mich salben, / dass ich König über euch sei, / so kommt und bergt euch in meinem Schatten! / Wo nicht, so wird Feuer ausgehen vom Dornbusch / und verzehren die Zedern des Libanon.

Y el escaramujo respondió á los árboles: Si en verdad me elegís por rey sobre vosotros, venid, y aseguraos debajo de mi sombra: y si no, fuego salga del escaramujo que devore los cedros del Líbano.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

Nun denn, wenn ihr treu und redlich gehandelt habt, da ihr den Abimelech zum König gemacht, und wenn ihr an Jerubbaal und an seinem Hause gut gehandelt und ihm vergolten habt, wie er es um euch verdient hat -

Ahora pues, si con verdad y con integridad habéis procedido en hacer rey á Abimelech, y si lo habéis hecho bien con Jerobaal y con su casa, y si le habéis pagado conforme á la obra de sus manos;

hat doch mein Vater für euch gekämpft und sein Leben gewagt und euch aus der Hand der Midianiter errettet;

ihr aber habt euch heute wider das Haus meines Vaters erhoben und seine Söhne ermordet, siebzig Männer auf einem Stein, und habt den Abimelech, den Sohn seiner Magd, über die Bürger von Sichem zum König gemacht, weil er euer Stammesgenosse ist -,

And ye are risen up against my father’s house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

wenn ihr also heute treu und redlich gehandelt habt an Jerubbaal und an seinem Hause, so werdet des Abimelech froh, und auch er möge euer froh werden!

Si con verdad y con integridad habéis obrado hoy con Jerobaal y con su casa, que gocéis de Abimelech, y él goce de vosotros.

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

if you then have dealt truly and righteously with Jerubbaal and with his house today, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you;

Wo nicht, so gehe Feuer aus von Abimelech und verzehre die Bürger von Sichem und die Insassen des Millo, und Feuer gehe aus von den Bürgern von Sichem und den Insassen des Millo und verzehre den Abimelech!

Darnach entwich Jotham und flüchtete sich vor seinem Bruder Abimelech nach Beer und liess sich dort nieder.

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

Hätte doch ich diesem Volke zu befehlen! ich wollte den Abimelech wegschaffen, und ich liesse dem Abimelech sagen: Vermehre doch dein Heer und rücke aus!

Fuérame dado este pueblo bajo de mi mano, yo echaría luego á Abimelech. Y decía á Abimelech: Aumenta tus escuadrones, y sal.

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

Da machte sich Abimelech mit aller Mannschaft, die er bei sich hatte, noch in der Nacht auf, und sie legten sich in vier Haufen gegen Sichem in den Hinterhalt.

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

Aber Goal fuhr fort und sprach: Sieh, da kommen doch Leute vom Nabel des Landes herab, und ein Haufen kommt aus der Richtung der Wahrsager-Terebinthe. (1) eine als Mittelpunkt des Landes betrachtete Anhöhe, vlt. der Garizim.

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

Then Zebul said to him, “Now where is your mouth, that you said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Isn’t this the people that you have despised? Please go out now and fight with them.”

Am andern Morgen gingen die Leute aufs Feld hinaus, und man meldete das dem Abimelech.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.
