1Então, Jerubaal (que é Gideão), levantou-se cedo, assim como todo o povo que estava com ele, e acamparam ao lado da fonte de Harode. O acampamento dos midianitas estava ao norte, no vale, próximo da colina de Moré.
2Yahweh disse a Gideão: "Há soldados demais para que Eu te dê a vitória sobre os midianitas; para que Israel não se glorie contra Mim, dizendo: 'Nosso próprio poder nos salvou'.
3Agora, portanto, proclama aos ouvidos do povo e dize: 'Qualquer um que esteja com medo, qualquer um que trema, volte e saia do monte Gileade'". Então, vinte e duas mil pessoas se foram, e dez mil permaneceram.
4Yahweh disse a Gideão: "Ainda há pessoas demais. Faze-os descer às águas, e ali Eu diminuirei o número para ti. Se Eu te disser: 'Este irá contigo', ele irá contigo; mas se Eu disser: 'Este não irá contigo', ele não irá".
5Então, Gideão fez o povo descer às águas, e Yahweh lhe disse: "Separa todos aqueles que lamberem a água, como um cachorro lambe, daqueles que se ajoelharem para beber”.
6Trezentos homens lamberam, levando a mão à boca. O resto dos homens se ajoelhou para beber a água.
7Yahweh disse a Gideão: "Com os trezentos homens que lamberam a água, Eu vos resgatarei e vos darei a vitória sobre os midianitas. Todos os outros voltem cada um para o seu lugar".
8Então, esses que foram escolhidos pegaram suas provisões e suas trombetas. Gideão despediu os demais homens de Israel, cada um para sua tenda, mas manteve os trezentos. Ora, o acampamento dos midianitas estava abaixo dele, no vale.
9Na mesma noite, Yahweh lhe disse: "Levanta-te! Ataca o acampamento, porque Eu te darei vitória sobre ele.
10Mas se estiveres com medo de descer, desce ao acampamento acompanhado de Purá, o teu servo,
11e escuta o que dizem; e a tua coragem se fortalecerá para atacar o acampamento". Então, Gideão desceu com o seu servo Purá até os postos dos vigias do acampamento.
12Os midianitas, os amalequitas, e todo o povo do leste estavam situados ao longo do vale, tão numerosos como uma nuvem de gafanhotos. Seus camelos eram mais do que se podia contar; em número maior do que os grãos de areia da praia.
13Quando Gideão chegou ali, um homem estava contando seu sonho ao seu companheiro. O homem disse: "Olha! Eu tive um sonho, e vi um pão de cevada rolando pelo acampamento dos midianitas. Veio sobre a tenda e bateu nela com tanta força que ela caiu e virou de cima para baixo, de maneira que ficou estendida na terra".
14O outro homem disse: "Isto não é outra coisa senão a espada de Gideão, filho de Joás, o israelita. Deus lhe entregou a vitória sobre os midianitas e sobre todo o seu exército".
15Quando Gideão ouviu a narração do sonho e sua interpretação, inclinou-se em adoração. Ele voltou ao acampamento de Israel e disse: "Levantai-vos! Yahweh vos deu vitória sobre o exército dos midianitas".
16Ele dividiu os trezentos homens em três grupos, e deu a todos trombetas e jarras vazias, com tochas dentro de cada jarra.
17E lhes disse: "Olhai para mim e fazei o que eu fizer. Observai! Quando eu chegar ao limite do acampamento, fazei o que eu fizer.
18Quando eu tocar a trombeta, tanto a minha como a de todos os que estiverem comigo, tocai as vossas trombetas também, em todos os lados do acampamento, e gritai: 'Por Yahweh e por Gideão!'".
19Então, Gideão e os cem homens que estavam com ele chegaram ao limite do acampamento, no princípio da vigília da meia-noite. No momento em que os midianitas estavam trocando de guarda, eles tocaram as trombetas e quebraram os jarros que estavam em suas mãos.
20As três companhias tocaram as trombetas e quebraram os jarros. Eles seguravam suas tochas na mão esquerda e as trombetas na mão direita para as tocarem. E bradaram: "À espada de Yahweh e de Gideão".
21Todos ficaram em seus lugares ao redor do acampamento e todo o exército midianita correu. Eles gritavam e fugiam.
22Quando tocaram as trezentas trombetas, Yahweh pôs a espada de cada homem midianita contra os seus companheiros e contra todo o seu próprio exército. O exército fugiu até Bete-Sita, em direção a Zererá, até os limites de Abel-Meolá, perto de Tabate.
23Os homens de Israel, de Naftali, de Aser e de todo o Manassés foram convocados e perseguiram os midianitas.
24Gideão enviou mensageiros por toda a região montanhosa de Efraim, dizendo: "Descei contra os midianitas e tomai o controle do rio Jordão, até Bete-Bara, para detê-los". Então, todos os homens de Efraim se juntaram e tomaram controle das águas até Bete-Bara, e do rio Jordão.
25Eles capturaram os dois príncipes de Midiã, Orebe e Zeebe. Mataram Orebe na rocha de Orebe, e mataram Zeebe no tanque de espremer uvas de Zeebe. Eles perseguiram os midianitas, e trouxeram as cabeças de Orebe e de Zeebe para Gideão, que estava do outro lado do Jordão.

1LEVANTÁNDOSE pues de mañana Jerobaal, el cual es Gedeón, y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, asentaron el campo junto á la fuente de Harod: y tenía el campo de los Madianitas al norte, de la otra parte del collado de More, en el valle.
2Y Jehová dijo á Gedeón: El pueblo que está contigo es mucho para que yo dé á los Madianitas en su mano: porque no se alabe Israel contra mí, diciendo: Mi mano me ha salvado.
3Haz pues ahora pregonar, que lo oiga el pueblo, diciendo: El que teme y se estremece, madrugue y vuélvase desde el monte de Galaad. Y volviéronse de los del pueblo veintidós mil: y quedaron diez mil.
4Y Jehová dijo á Gedeón: Aun es mucho el pueblo; llévalos á las aguas, y allí yo te los probaré; y del que yo te dijere: Vaya este contigo, vaya contigo: mas de cualquiera que yo te dijere: Este no vaya contigo, el tal no vaya.
5Entonces llevó el pueblo á las aguas: y Jehová dijo á Gedeón: Cualquiera que lamiere las aguas con su lengua como lame el perro, aquél pondrás aparte; asimismo cualquiera que se doblare sobre sus rodillas para beber.
6Y fué el número de los que lamieron las aguas, llegándola con la mano á la boca, trescientos hombres: y todo el resto del pueblo se dobló sobre sus rodillas para beber las aguas.
7Entonces Jehová dijo á Gedeón: Con estos trescientos hombres que lamieron el agua os salvaré, y entregaré á los Madianitas en tus manos: y váyase toda la gente cada uno á su lugar.
8Y tomada provisión para el pueblo en sus manos, y sus bocinas, envió á todos los Israelitas cada uno á su tienda, y retuvo á aquellos trescientos hombres: y tenía el campo de Madián abajo en el valle.
9Y aconteció que aquella noche Jehová le dijo: Levántate, y desciende al campo; porque yo lo he entregado en tus manos.
10Y si tienes temor de descender, baja tú con Phara tu criado al campo,
11Y oirás lo que hablan; y entonces tus manos se esforzarán, y descenderás al campo. Y él descendió con Phara su criado al principio de la gente de armas que estaba en el campo.
12Y Madián, y Amalec, y todos los orientales, estaban tendidos en el valle como langostas en muchedumbre, y sus camellos eran innumerables, como la arena que está á la ribera de la mar en multitud.
13Y luego que llegó Gedeón, he aquí que un hombre estaba contando á su compañero un sueño, diciendo: He aquí yo soñé un sueño: que veía un pan de cebada que rodaba hasta el campo de Madián, y llegaba á las tiendas, y las hería de tal manera que caían, y las trastornaba de arriba abajo, y las tiendas caían.
14Y su compañero respondió, y dijo: Esto no es otra cosa sino la espada de Gedeón hijo de Joas, varón de Israel: Dios ha entregado en sus manos á los Madianitas con todo el campo.
15Y como Gedeón oyó la historia del sueño y su interpretación, adoró; y vuelto al campo de Israel, dijo: Levantaos, que Jehová ha entregado el campo de Madián en vuestras manos.
16Y repartiendo los trescientos hombres en tres escuadrones, dió á cada uno de ellos bocinas en sus manos, y cántaros vacíos con teas ardiendo dentro de los cántaros.
17Y díjoles: Miradme á mí, y haced como yo hiciere; he aquí que cuando yo llegare al principio del campo, como yo hiciere, así haréis vosotros.
18Yo tocaré la bocina y todos los que estarán conmigo; y vosotros tocaréis entonces las bocinas alrededor de todo el campo, y diréis: ¡Por Jehová y Gedeón!
19Llegó pues Gedeón, y los cien hombres que llevaba consigo, al principio del campo, á la entrada de la vela del medio, cuando acababan de renovar las centinelas; y tocaron las bocinas, y quebraron los cántaros que llevaban en sus manos:
20Y los tres escuadrones tocaron las bocinas, y quebrando los cántaros tomaron en las manos izquierdas las teas, y en las derechas los cuernos con que tañían, y dieron grita: ¡La espada de Jehová y de Gedeón!
21Y estuviéronse en sus lugares en derredor del campo: y todo el campo fué alborotado, y huyeron gritando.
22Mas los trescientos tocaban las bocinas: y Jehová puso la espada de cada uno contra su compañero en todo el campo. Y el ejército huyó hasta Beth-sitta, hacia Cerera, y hasta el término de Abel-mehola en Tabbat.
23Y juntándose los de Israel, de Nephtalí, y de Aser, y de todo Manasés, siguieron á los Madianitas.
24Gedeón también envió mensajeros á todo el monte de Ephraim, diciendo: Descended al encuentro de los Madianitas, y tomadles las aguas hasta Beth-bara y el Jordán. Y juntos todos los hombres de Ephraim, tomaron las aguas de Beth-bara y el Jordán.
25Y tomaron dos príncipes de los Madianitas, Oreb y Zeeb: y mataron á Oreb en la peña de Oreb, y á Zeeb lo mataron en el lagar de Zeeb: y después que siguieron á los Madianitas, trajeron las cabezas de Oreb y de Zeeb á Gedeón de la otra parte del Jordán.

1Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
5So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
6And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
7And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
10But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
11And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.
12And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
13And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
14And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
15And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.
16And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
17And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
18When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
19So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.
20And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
21And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.
22And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth-shittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abel-meholah, unto Tabbath.
23And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.
24And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Beth-barah and Jordan.
25And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

1Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people who were with him, rose up early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. Midian’s camp was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2The LORD said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel brag against me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
3Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead.’” So twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.
4The LORD said to Gideon, “There are still too many people. Bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. It shall be, that those whom I tell you, ‘This shall go with you,’ shall go with you; and whoever I tell you, ‘This shall not go with you,’ shall not go.”
5So he brought down the people to the water; and the LORD said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps of the water with his tongue, like a dog laps, you shall set him by himself; likewise everyone who bows down on his knees to drink.”
6The number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people bowed down on their knees to drink water.
7The LORD said to Gideon, “I will save you by the three hundred men who lapped, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, each to his own place.”
8So the people took food in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the rest of the men of Israel to their own tents, but retained the three hundred men; and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9That same night, the LORD said to him, “Arise, go down into the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.
10But if you are afraid to go down, go with Purah your servant down to the camp.
11You will hear what they say; and afterward your hands will be strengthened to go down into the camp.” Then went he down with Purah his servant to the outermost part of the armed men who were in the camp.
12The Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is on the seashore for multitude.
13When Gideon had come, behold, there was a man telling a dream to his fellow. He said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream; and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, came to the tent, and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.”
14His fellow answered, “This is nothing other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has delivered Midian into his hand, with all the army.”
15It was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. Then he returned into the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for the LORD has delivered the army of Midian into your hand!”
16He divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them trumpets and empty pitchers, with torches within the pitchers.
17He said to them, “Watch me, and do likewise. Behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so you shall do.
18When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and shout, ‘For the LORD and for Gideon!’”
19So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch. Then they blew the trumpets and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.
20The three companies blew the trumpets, broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands with which to blow; and they shouted, “The sword of the LORD and of Gideon!”
21They each stood in his place around the camp, and all the army ran; and they shouted, and put them to flight.
22They blew the three hundred trumpets, and the LORD set every man’s sword against his fellow and against all the army; and the army fled as far as Beth Shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.
23The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued Midian.
24Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against Midian and take the waters before them as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan!” So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together and took the waters as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan.
25They took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at Oreb’s rock, and Zeeb they killed at Zeeb’s wine press, as they pursued Midian. Then they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.
