1Il advint, après la mort de Josué, que les fils d'Israël consultèrent le Seigneur, disant : Quel chef nous conduira contre les Chananéens pour les combattre ?
2Et le Seigneur dit : Juda marchera ; voilà que j'ai mis en sa main la terre promise.
3Et Juda dit à Siméon, son frère : Viens avec moi sur mes terres, et nous livrerons bataille aux Chananéens, ensuite j'irai avec toi sur ton territoire. Et Siméon marcha avec lui.
4Juda partit donc, et le Seigneur livra à ses mains le Chananéen et le Phérézéen ; il les tailla en pièces à Bézec au nombre de dix mille.
5Après avoir surpris à Bézec Adonibézec, ils lui livrèrent bataille, et taillèrent en pièces le Chananéen et le Phérézéen.
6Adonibézec prit la fuite, ils coururent après lui, l'atteignirent et lui coupèrent les extrémités des pieds et des mains.
7Alors, Adonibézec dit : Soixante-dix rois à qui j'avais fait couper les extrémités des pieds et des mains, ont ramassé ce qui tombait sous ma table. Dieu m'a donc traité comme j'ai traité autrui. Et ils le conduisirent à Jérusalem, où il mourut.
8Et, les fils de Juda assiégèrent Jérusalem ; ils la prirent, ils passèrent les habitants au fil de l'épée, et ils incendièrent la ville.
9Après cela, les fils de Juda descendirent pour combattre le Chananéen qui habitait les montagnes du midi et la plaine.
10Et Juda marcha contre le Chananéen qui habitait Hébron, et tout Hébron sortit à sa rencontre ; le nom d'Hébron était autrefois Cariath-Arboc-Sépher ; Juda vainquit Sessi, Achiraan et Tholmi, de la race d'Enac.
11De là, il monta pour attaquer Dabir ; or, le nom de Dabir était autrefois Cariath-Sépher, ou Ville des Lettres.
12Et Caleb dit : Celui qui montera à l'assaut de la Ville des Lettres et la prendra, je lui donnerai pour femme ma fille Ascha.
13Et Gothoniel, fils de Cénez, frère puîné de Caleb, prit la ville ; et Caleb lui donna pour femme sa fille Ascha.
14Tandis qu'elle s'en allait, Gothoniel lui persuada de demander à son père un champ, et, montée sur son âne, elle murmura et cria : Tu m'as établie en une terre du midi. Et Caleb lui dit : Qu'as-tu ?
15Et Ascha lui dit : Accorde-moi un bienfait ; tu m'as établie en une terre du midi ; tu me donneras une terre arrosée d'eau - Et Caleb lui donna, selon son cœur, une terre arrosée en haut et en bas.
16En ce temps-là, les fils de Jéthro le Cinéen, beau-père de Moïse, montèrent de la Ville des Palmiers, pour se réunir aux fils de Juda, dans le désert, au midi de Juda, vers la descente d'Arad, et ils demeurèrent parmi le peuple.
17Ensuite, Juda marcha avec son frère Siméon ; ils vainquirent le Chananéen qui habitait en Sépheth, ils l'exterminèrent, et ils donnèrent à cette ville le nom d'Anathème.
18Mais Juda ne prit possession ni de Gaza, ni de son territoire ; ni d'Ascalon, ni de son territoire ; ni d'Accaron, ni de son territoire ; ni d'Asor, ni de son territoire.
19Toutefois, le Seigneur était avec Juda ; il eut dans son héritage la contrée montagneuse, mais il ne put exterminer les habitants de la côte, parce que Rhéchab s'y opposait.
20Quant à Caleb, on lui avait donné, selon l'ordre de Moïse, le territoire d'Hébron, où il eut dans son héritage les trois villes des fils d'Enac.
21Les fils de Benjamin ne purent s'emparer du territoire des Jébuséens qui habitaient Jérusalem ; les Jebuséens, jusqu'à ce jour, ont donc habité Jérusalem avec les fils de Benjamin.
22De leur côté, les fils de Joseph montèrent à Béthel, et le Seigneur était avec eux,
23Et, après avoir établi leur camp, ils reconnurent Béthel, dont le nom était autrefois Luza.
24Or, les gardes virent un homme qui sortait de la ville ; ils le prirent, et ils lui dirent : Montre-nous par où l'on peut entrer dans la ville, et nous serons miséricordieux envers toi.
25Et il leur montra l'entrée de la ville, et ils passèrent la ville au fil de l'épée, et ils laissèrent aller l'homme avec toute sa famille.
26L'homme s'en alla dans la terre d'Heltim ; il y bâtit une ville, et il lui donna le nom de Luza, qu'elle porte encore de nos jours.
27Manassé ne détruisit ni Bethsan, qui est une ville des Scythes ; ni ses filles, ni ses alentours ; ni Thanac, ni ses dépendances ; ni les habitants de Dor, ni leurs dépendances ; ni l'habitant de Balac, ni ses filles, ni ses dépendances ; ni Magedo, ni ses filles, ni ses alentours ; ni Jéblaam, ni ses filles, ni ses alentours. Les Chananéens commencèrent à habiter cette terre avec eux.
28Mais, lorsque Israël eut pris des forces, il assujettit le Chananéen au tribut, quoiqu'il ne le détruisit pas.
29Ephraïm ne détruisit pas le Chananéen qui habitait Gazer ; le Chananéen continua de demeurer à Gazer avec lui, et lui paya un tribut.
30Zabulon ne détruisit pas les habitants de Cédron, ni ceux de Domana. Le Chananéen continua de demeurer avec lui, et devint son tributaire.
31Aser ne détruisit pas les habitants d'Accho ; ils devinrent ses tributaires ; il ne détruisit pas les habitants de Dor, ni ceux de Sidon, de Dalaph, d'Aschazi, de Chebda, de Naï et d'Eréo.
32Aser demeura au milieu des Chananéens qui habitaient cette terre, parce qu'il ne put les détruire.
33Nephthali ne détruisit pas les habitants de Bethsamys, ni ceux de Béthanath ; Nephthali demeura au milieu du Chananéen qui habitait la contrée. Ceux de Bethsamys et de Béthanath devinrent ses tributaires.
34L'Amorrhéen resserra Dan sur les montagnes ; il ne lui permit pas de descendre dans les vallées.
35Les Amorrhéens commencèrent même à habiter la montagne de l'Argile, où il y a des ours et des renards ; ils eurent Myrsinon et Thalabin ; mais la main de la maison de Joseph s'appesantit sur l'Amorrhéen, et celui-ci devint son tributaire.
36Les limites de l'Amorrhéen furent la montée d'Acrabin, les rochers et les hauteurs qui les dominent.

1Y ACONTECIÓ después de la muerte de Josué, que los hijos de Israel consultaron á Jehová, diciendo: ¿Quién subirá por nosotros el primero á pelear contra los Cananeos?
2Y Jehová respondió: Judá subirá; he aquí que yo he entregado la tierra en sus manos.
3Y Judá dijo á Simeón su hermano: Sube conmigo á mi suerte, y peleemos contra el Cananeo, y yo también iré contigo á tu suerte. Y Simeón fué con él.
4Y subió Judá, y Jehová entregó en sus manos al Cananeo y al Pherezeo; y de ellos hirieron en Bezec diez mil hombres.
5Y hallaron á Adoni-bezec en Bezec, y pelearon contra él: é hirieron al Cananeo y al Pherezeo.
6Mas Adoni-bezec huyó; y siguiéronle, y prendiéronle, y cortáronle los pulgares de las manos y de los pies.
7Entonces dijo Adoni-bezec: Setenta reyes, cortados los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies, cogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa: como yo hice, así me ha pagado Dios. Y metiéronle en Jerusalem, donde murió.
8Y habían combatido los hijos de Judá á Jerusalem, y la habían tomado, y metido á cuchillo, y puesto á fuego la ciudad.
9Después los hijos de Judá descendieron para pelear contra el Cananeo que habitaba en las montañas, y al mediodía, y en los llanos.
10Y partió Judá contra el Cananeo que habitaba en Hebrón, la cual se llamaba antes Chîriath-arba; é hirieron á Sesai, y á Ahiman, y á Talmai.
11Y de allí fué á los que habitaban en Debir, que antes se llamaba Chîriath-sepher.
12Y dijo Caleb: El que hiriere á Chîriath-sepher, y la tomare, yo le daré á Axa mi hija por mujer.
13Y tomóla Othoniel hijo de Cenez, hermano menor de Caleb: y él le dió á Axa su hija por mujer.
14Y cuando la llevaban, persuadióle que pidiese á su padre un campo. Y ella se apeó del asno, y Caleb le dijo: ¿Qué tienes?
15Ella entonces le respondió: Dame una bendición: que pues me has dado tierra de secadal, me des también fuentes de aguas. Entonces Caleb le dió las fuentes de arriba y las fuentes de abajo.
16Y los hijos de Cineo, suegro de Moisés, subieron de la ciudad de las palmas con los hijos de Judá al desierto de Judá, que está al mediodía de Arad: y fueron y habitaron con el pueblo.

22También los de la casa de José subieron á Beth-el; y fué Jehová con ellos.
23Y los de la casa de José pusieron espías en Beth-el, la cual ciudad antes se llamaba Luz.
24Y los que espiaban vieron un hombre que salía de la ciudad, y dijéronle: Muéstranos ahora la entrada de la ciudad, y haremos contigo misericordia.
25Y él les mostró la entrada á la ciudad, é hiriéronla á filo de espada; mas dejaron á aquel hombre con toda su familia.
26Y fuese el hombre á la tierra de los Hetheos, y edificó una ciudad, á la cual llamó Luz: y este es su nombre hasta hoy.
27Tampoco Manasés echó á los de Beth-sean, ni á los de sus aldeas, ni á los de Taanach y sus aldeas, ni á los de Dor y sus aldeas, ni á los habitantes de Ibleam y sus aldeas, ni á los que habitaban en Megiddo y en sus aldeas: mas el Cananeo quiso habitar en esta tierra.
28Empero cuando Israel tomó fuerzas hizo al Cananeo tributario, mas no lo echó.
29Tampoco Ephraim echó al Cananeo que habitaba en Gezer; antes habitó el Cananeo en medio de ellos en Gezer.
30Tampoco Zabulón echó á los que habitaban en Chîtron y á los que habitaban en Naalol; mas el Cananeo habitó en medio de él, y le fueron tributarios.
31Tampoco Aser echó á los que habitaban en Achô, y á los que habitaban en Sidón, y en Ahlab, y en Achzib, y en Helba, y en Aphec, y en Rehod:
32Antes moró Aser entre los Cananeos que habitaban en la tierra; pues no los echó.
33Tampoco Nephtalí echó á los que habitaban en Beth-semes, y á los que habitaban en Beth-anath, sino que moró entre los Cananeos que habitaban en la tierra; mas fuéronle tributarios los moradores de Beth-semes, y los moradores de Beth-anath.
34Los Amorrheos apretaron á los hijos de Dan hasta el monte; que no los dejaron descender á la campiña.
35Y quiso el Amorrheo habitar en el monte de Heres, en Ajalón y en Saalbín; mas como la mano de la casa de José tomó fuerzas, hiciéronlos tributarios.
36Y el término del Amorrheo fué desde la subida de Acrabim, desde la piedra, y arriba.

1Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher:
12And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
15And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
16And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
19And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

35But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.

1After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of the LORD, saying, “Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”
2The LORD said, “Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”
3Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot.” So Simeon went with him.
4Judah went up, and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand. They struck ten thousand men in Bezek.
5They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and they fought against him. They struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6But Adoni-Bezek fled. They pursued him, caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his big toes.

28When Israel had grown strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out.
29Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.
30Zebulun didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.
31Asher didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
32but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they didn’t drive them out.
33Naphtali didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.
34The Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country, for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;
35but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim. Yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.
36The border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
