1Fue después Sansón a Gaza donde vio una mujer pública, y entró en su casa.
2Lo que sabiendo los filisteos, y propalándose entre ellos que Sansón había entrado en la ciudad, cercaron la casa, y pusieron centinelas a la puerta de la ciudad, y estuvieron en acecho toda la noche, con el fin de matarle por la mañana al tiempo de salir.
3Sansón durmió hasta la medianoche; y entonces levantándose fue y arrancó las dos hojas de la puerta de la ciudad con sus pilares y cerrojos o barras, y echándoselas a cuestas, se las llevó a la cima del monte que mira hacia Hebrón.
4Después de esto se enamoró de una mujer que habitaba en el valle Sorec, llamada Dalila.
5Vinieron luego a ella los príncipes de los filisteos, y le dijeron: Engáñale con caricias, y averigua de él de dónde le viene tan gran fuerza, y cómo le podremos sojuzgar para castigarle después de atado: que si lo consiguieres, te daremos cada uno mil cien siclos de plata.
6En vista de esto, Dalila habló así a Sansón: Dime, por tu vida: ¿En qué consiste tu grandísima fuerza, y cuál es la cosa con que atado no podrías escaparte?
7Le respondió Sansón: Si me atasen con siete cuerdas de nervios recientes y todavía húmedos, quedaré sin fuerzas como los demás hombres.
8La llevaron, pues, los príncipes de los filisteos siete cordeles, como había dicho, con los cuales ella lo ató;
9quedándose aquéllos en acecho, escondidos en la casa, aguardando en una pieza retirada el fin de este suceso. Luego Dalila le gritó: ¡Sansón, los filisteos se echan sobre ti! Mas él rompió las ataduras, como cualquiera rompería un hilo torcido de borra de estopa, así que le hiciera sentir el fuego. Con esto no se supo en qué consistía su fuerza.
10Entonces le dijo Dalila: Tú te has burlado de mí, y me has mentido: por lo menos ahora descúbreme con qué debieras ser atado.
11Le respondió: Si me ataren con cuerdas nuevas, que nunca hayan servido, quedaré débil y semejante a los demás hombres.
12Lo ató por consiguiente Dalila con ellas; y preparadas en el aposento las asechanzas, gritó: ¡Sansón, los filisteos se echan sobre ti! Mas él rompió las ligaduras como hilachas de tela.
13Le dijo Dalila otra vez: ¿Hasta cuándo me has de engañar y mentir? Declárame ya con qué has de ser atado. Le respondió Sansón: Si entretejes mis siete trenzas de cabellos con los lizos de la tela, y revueltas a un clavo, hincas éste en tierra, quedaré sin fuerzas.
14Lo cual después que ejecutó Dalila, le gritó: ¡Sansón, los filisteos se echan sobre ti! Mas él despertando del sueño, arrancó el clavo junto con las trenzas de cabellos y los lizos de la tela.
15Le dijo entonces Dalila: ¿Cómo puedes decir que me amas, cuando tu corazón no está unido conmigo? Por tres veces me has mentido, no queriendo decirme en qué consiste tu grandísima fuerza.
16Como, pues, le importunase, y estuviese continuamente alrededor de él por muchos días sin dejarle respirar un punto, desmayó el ánimo de Sansón, y cayó en un mortal abatimiento.
17Entonces descubriéndole la verdad, la dijo: Nunca jamás ha pasado navaja por mi cabeza; porque soy nazareo, esto es, consagrado a Dios desde el vientre de mi madre; si fuese rapada mi cabeza, se retiraría de mí la fortaleza mía, y perderé las fuerzas, y seré como los demás hombres.
18Viendo Dalila que le había manifestado todo su corazón, envió a decir a los príncipes de los filisteos: Venid aún por esta vez, porque ya me ha descubierto su corazón. Los cuales fueron llevando consigo el dinero que prometieron.
19Y ella habiéndole hecho dormir sobre sus rodillas, y reclinar la cabeza en su regazo, llamó a un barbero que le cortó a Sansón las siete trenzas de su cabello. Y después comenzó Dalila a empujarle y echarle de sí; pues al punto le desamparó la fuerza.
20Y le dijo en seguida: ¡Sansón, los filisteos se echan sobre ti! El cual despertando del sueño, dijo en su interior: Saldré como hice antes, y me desembarazaré de ellos; no conociendo o advirtiendo que el Señor se había retirado de él.
21Así pues, habiéndolo prendido los filisteos le sacaron luego los ojos, y amarrado con cadenas lo condujeron a Gaza, donde encerrado en una cárcel, le hicieron que moliese, moviendo las ruedas de un molino.
22Ya habían comenzado a crecerle los cabellos,
23cuando los príncipes de los filisteos se juntaron todos para ofrecer sacrificios solemnes a su dios Dagón, y celebrar banquetes, diciendo: Nuestro dios nos ha puesto en las manos a Sansón, nuestro enemigo.
24Lo que viendo el pueblo alababa también a su dios y repetía lo mismo: Nuestro dios nos ha puesto en las manos a nuestro enemigo, que ha asolado nuestra tierra y matado muchísimos de sus habitantes.
25Y dándose mutuamente alegres parabienes, después de bien comidos y bebidos dieron orden de que fuese conducido allí Sansón, para divertirse burlándose de él. El cual sacado de la cárcel, fue para ellos objeto de diversión: y lo hicieron quedar en pie entre dos columnas.
26Entonces dijo al muchacho que lo guiaba. Déjame tocar las columnas que sostienen todo este edificio, para recostarme sobre ellas, a fin de descansar un poquito.
27Es de advertir que el edificio estaba lleno de hombres y mujeres; y se hallaban allí todos los príncipes de los filisteos, y cerca de tres mil personas, entre hombres y mujeres, mirando desde las azoteas y techos del edificio las burlas que se hacían a Sansón.
28Pero él invocando al Señor dijo: ¡Oh Señor Dios! acuérdate de mí: y restitúyeme ahora, ¡oh Dios mío!, mi anterior fuerza para vengarme de mis enemigos, y hacerles pagar de una sola vez el haberme privado de mis dos ojos.
29Y agarrando las dos columnas en que estribaba el edificio, una con la derecha y otra con la izquierda,
30dijo: ¡Muera aquí Sansón con los filisteos! Y, sacudidas fuertemente las columnas, cayó el edificio sobre todos los príncipes y la demás gente que allí había. De esta manera Sansón mató muchos más en su muerte que antes había matado en vida.
31Después acudiendo sus hermanos con toda la parentela, tomaron su cuerpo, y lo colocaron entre Saraa y Estaol, en el sepulcro de su padre Manué. Fue juez de Israel veinte años.

1Y FUÉ Samsón á Gaza, y vió allí una mujer ramera, y entró á ella.
2Y fué dicho á los de Gaza: Samsón es venido acá. Y cercáronlo, y pusiéronle espías toda aquella noche á la puerta de la ciudad: y estuvieron callados toda aquella noche, diciendo: Hasta la luz de la mañana; entonces lo mataremos.
3Mas Samsón durmió hasta la media noche; y á la media noche se levantó, y tomando las puertas de la ciudad con sus dos pilares y su cerrojo, echóselas al hombro, y fuése, y subióse con ellas á la cumbre del monte que está delante de Hebrón.
4Después de esto aconteció que se enamoró de una mujer en el valle de Sorec, la cual se llamaba Dalila.
5Y vinieron á ella los príncipes de los Filisteos, y dijéronle: Engáñale y sabe en qué consiste su grande fuerza, y cómo lo podríamos vencer, para que lo atemos y lo atormentemos; y cada uno de nosotros te dará mil y cien siclos de plata.
6Y Dalila dijo á Samsón: Yo te ruego que me declares en qué consiste tu grande fuerza, y cómo podrás ser atado para ser atormentado.
7Y respondióle Samsón: Si me ataren con siete mimbres verdes que aun no estén enjutos, entonces me debilitaré, y seré como cualquiera de los hombres.
8Y los príncipes de los Filisteos le trajeron siete mimbres verdes que aun no se habían enjugado, y atóle con ellos.
9Y estaban espías en casa de ella en una cámara. Entonces ella le dijo: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y él rompió los mimbres, como se rompe una cuerda de estopa cuando siente el fuego: y no se supo su fuerza.
10Entonces Dalila dijo á Samsón: He aquí tú me has engañado, y me has dicho mentiras: descúbreme pues ahora, yo te ruego, cómo podrás ser atado.
11Y él le dijo: Si me ataren fuertemente con cuerdas nuevas, con las cuales ninguna cosa se haya hecho, yo me debilitaré, y seré como cualquiera de los hombres.
12Y Dalila tomó cuerdas nuevas, y atóle con ellas, y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y los espías estaban en una cámara. Mas él las rompió de sus brazos como un hilo.
13Y Dalila dijo á Samsón: Hasta ahora me engañas, y tratas conmigo con mentiras. Descúbreme pues ahora cómo podrás ser atado. El entonces le dijo: Si tejieres siete guedejas de mi cabeza con la tela.
14Y ella hincó la estaca, y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Mas despertando él de su sueño, arrancó la estaca del telar con la tela.
15Y ella le dijo: ¿Cómo dices, Yo te amo, pues que tu corazón no está conmigo? Ya me has engañado tres veces, y no me has aún descubierto en qué está tu gran fuerza.
16Y aconteció que, apretándole ella cada día con sus palabras é importunándole, su alma fué reducida á mortal angustia.
17Descubrióle pues todo su corazón, y díjole: Nunca á mi cabeza llegó navaja; porque soy Nazareo de Dios desde el vientre de mi madre. Si fuere rapado, mi fuerza se apartará de mí, y seré debilitado, y como todos los hombres.
18Y viendo Dalila que él le había descubierto todo su corazón, envió á llamar á los príncipes de los Filisteos, diciendo: Venid esta vez, porque él me ha descubierto todo su corazón. Y los príncipes de los Filisteos vinieron á ella, trayendo en su mano el dinero.
19Y ella hizo que él se durmiese sobre sus rodillas; y llamado un hombre, rapóle siete guedejas de su cabeza, y comenzó á afligirlo, pues su fuerza se apartó de él.
20Y díjole: ¡Samsón, los Filisteos sobre ti! Y luego que despertó él de su sueño, se dijo: Esta vez saldré como las otras, y me escaparé: no sabiendo que Jehová ya se había de él apartado.
21Mas los Filisteos echaron mano de él, y sacáronle los ojos, y le llevaron á Gaza; y le ataron con cadenas, para que moliese en la cárcel.
22Y el cabello de su cabeza comenzó á crecer, después que fué rapado.
23Entonces los príncipes de los Filisteos se juntaron para ofrecer sacrificio á Dagón su dios, y para alegrarse; y dijeron: Nuestro dios entregó en nuestras manos á Samsón nuestro enemigo.
24Y viéndolo el pueblo, loaron á su dios, diciendo: Nuestro dios entregó en nuestras manos á nuestro enemigo, y al destruidor de nuestra tierra, el cual había muerto á muchos de nosotros.
25Y aconteció que, yéndose alegrando el corazón de ellos, dijeron: Llamad á Samsón, para que divierta delante de nosotros. Y llamaron á Samsón de la cárcel, y hacía de juguete delante de ellos; y pusiéronlo entre las columnas.
26Y Samsón dijo al mozo que le guiaba de la mano: Acércame, y hazme tentar las columnas sobre que se sustenta la casa, para que me apoye sobre ellas.
27Y la casa estaba llena de hombres y mujeres: y todos los príncipes de los Filisteos estaban allí; y en el alto piso había como tres mil hombres y mujeres, que estaban mirando el escarnio de Samsón.
28Entonces clamó Samsón á Jehová, y dijo: Señor Jehová, acuérdate ahora de mí, y esfuérzame, te ruego, solamente esta vez, oh Dios, para que de una vez tome venganza de los Filisteos, por mis dos ojos.
29Asió luego Samsón las dos columnas del medio sobre las cuales se sustentaba la casa, y estribó en ellas, la una con la mano derecha, y la otra con la izquierda;
30Y dijo Samsón: Muera yo con los Filisteos. Y estribando con esfuerzo, cayó la casa sobre los príncipes, y sobre todo el pueblo que estaba en ella. Y fueron muchos más los que de ellos mató muriendo, que los que había muerto en su vida.
31Y descendieron sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre, y tomáronle, y lleváronle, y le sepultaron entre Sora y Esthaol, en el sepulcro de su padre Manoa. Y él juzgó á Israel veinte años.

1Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.
2And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
3And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.
4And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
7And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.
10And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.
11And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
12Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.
13And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
14And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.
15And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
16And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;
17That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.
18And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
19And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
21But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
22Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.
23Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
24And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.
25And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.
26And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.
27Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.
28And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
29And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.
30And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
31Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

1Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a prostitute, and went in to her.
2The Gazites were told, “Samson is here!” They surrounded him and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, “Wait until morning light; then we will kill him.”
3Samson lay until midnight, then arose at midnight and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city, with the two posts, and plucked them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.
4It came to pass afterward that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”
6Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and what you might be bound to afflict you.”
7Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven green cords that were never dried, then shall I become weak, and be as another man.”
8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green cords which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9Now she had an ambush waiting in the inner room. She said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” He broke the cords as a flax thread is broken when it touches the fire. So his strength was not known.
10Delilah said to Samson, “Behold, you have mocked me, and told me lies. Now please tell me how you might be bound.”
11He said to her, “If they only bind me with new ropes with which no work has been done, then I will become weak, and be as another man.”
12So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them, then said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” The ambush was waiting in the inner room. He broke them off his arms like a thread.
13Delilah said to Samson, “Until now, you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me with what you might be bound.” He said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the fabric on the loom.”
14She fastened it with the pin, and said to him, “The Philistines are on you, Samson!” He awakened out of his sleep, and plucked away the pin of the beam and the fabric.
15She said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies.”
16When she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, his soul was troubled to death.
17He told her all his heart and said to her, “No razor has ever come on my head; for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me and I will become weak, and be like any other man.”
18When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand.
19She made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20She said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” He awoke out of his sleep, and said, “I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free.” But he didn’t know that the LORD had departed from him.
21The Philistines laid hold on him and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza and bound him with fetters of bronze; and he ground at the mill in the prison.
22However, the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaved.
23The lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, “Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.”
24When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, “Our god has delivered our enemy and the destroyer of our country, who has slain many of us, into our hand.”
25When their hearts were merry, they said, “Call for Samson, that he may entertain us.” They called for Samson out of the prison; and he performed before them. They set him between the pillars;
26and Samson said to the boy who held him by the hand, “Allow me to feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean on them.”
27Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were on the roof about three thousand men and women, who saw while Samson performed.
28Samson called to the LORD, and said, “Lord GOD, remember me, please, and strengthen me, please, only this once, God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.”
29Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house rested and leaned on them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left.
30Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” He bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell on the lords, and on all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than those who he killed in his life.
31Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down and took him, and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burial site of Manoah his father. He judged Israel twenty years.
