1Als das der König Hiskia vernahm, zerriß er seine Kleider, hüllte sich in ein härenes Gewand und ging in den Tempel Jahwes.
2Eljakim aber, der dem Palaste vorstand, und Sebna, den Staatsschreiber, samt den vornehmsten Priestern sandte er mit härenen Gewändern umhüllt zu Jesaja, dem Sohne des Amoz, dem Propheten.
3Und sie sprachen zu ihm: So spricht Hiskia: Ein Tag der Not und der Züchtigung und Verwerfung ist dieser Tag; denn das Kind ist bis an den Muttermund gekommen, aber es ist keine Kraft da, zu gebären.
4Vielleicht hört Jahwe, dein Gott, die Reden des Rabsake, den sein Herr, der König von Assyrien, gesandt hat, den lebendigen Gott zu lästern. So möge er denn die Reden ahnden, die Jahwe, dein Gott, gehört hat. Du aber lege Fürbitte ein für den Überrest, der noch vorhanden ist!
5Als nun die Diener des Königs Hiskia zu Jesaja kamen,
6gab ihnen Jesaja den Bescheid: Sprecht also zu eurem Herrn: So spricht Jahwe: fürchte dich nicht wegen der Reden, die du gehört hast, mit denen mich die Knechte es Königs von Assyrien gelästert haben.
7Fürwahr, ich will ihm einen Geist eingeben, daß er eine Kunde vernehmen und nach seinem Lande zurückkehren soll, und will ihn dann in seinem Lande durchs Schwert fällen!
8Darauf kehrte der Rabsake zurück und fand den König von Assyrien mit der Belagerung von Libna beschäftigt; er hatte nämlich erfahren, daß er von Lachis aufgebrochen war.
9Als aber Sanherib in betreff Thirhakas, des Königs von Kusch, die Kunde vernahm: Er ist ausgerückt um mit dir zu kämpfen, da sandte er abermals Boten an Hiskia mit den Worten: Sprecht also zu Hiskia, dem Könige von Juda:
10Laß dich von deinem Gott, auf den du dich verlässest, nicht bethören, indem du denkst: Jerusalem wird nicht in die Gewalt des Königs von Assyrien überliefert werden.
11Du hast ja selbst gehört, wie die Könige von Assyrien mit allen Ländern verfahren sind, indem sie den Bann an ihnen vollstreckten, und da wolltest du entrinnen?
12Haben etwa die Götter der Völker, die von meinen Vätern vernichtet wurden, diese Gerettet - Gosan und Haran und Rezeph und die Leute von Eden zu Thelassar?
13Wo ist der König von Hamath und der König von Arpad und ein König über die Stadt Sepharwaim, Hana und Awwa?
14Als nun Hiskia den Brief aus der Hand der Boten empfangen und ihn gelesen hatte, ging er hinauf in den Tempel Jahwes und Hiskia breitete ihn vor Jahwe aus.
15Und Hiskia betete zu Jahwe und sprach:
16Jahwe der Heerscharen, du Gott Israels, der du über den Keruben thronst, du allein bist der wahre Gott über alle Reiche der Erde; du hast den Himmel und die Erde gemacht.
17Neige, Jahwe, dein Ohr und höre; öffne, Jahwe, dein Auge und siehe! Ja, höre die Worte Sanheribs, der hergesandt hat, um den lebendigen Gott zu lästern.
18In der That, Jahwe, haben die Könige von Assyrien alle Völker und ihre Länder verheert
19und haben ihre Götter ins Feuer geworfen. Denn das waren nicht wirkliche Götter, sondern nur Werk von Menschenhänden, Holz und Stein, und so konnten sie sie vernichten.
20Nun aber, Jahwe unser Gott, errette uns doch aus seiner Gewalt, damit alle Reiche der Erde erkennen, daß du, Jahwe, allein Gott bist!
21Da sandte Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, zu Hiskia und ließ ihm sagen: So spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels: Was du um Sanheribs, des Königs von Assyrien, willen zu mir gebetet hast, habe ich gehört.
22Dies ist das Wort, das Jahwe über ihn geredet hat: Es verachtet dich, es spottet deiner die Jungfrau, die Tochter Zion. Hinter dir her schüttelt das Haupt die Tochter Jerusalem.
23Wen hast du gehöhnt und gelästert und gegen wen hast du deine Stimme erhoben und hoch emporgehoben deine Augen? Wider den Heiligen Israels!
24Durch deine Knechte hast du den Herrn gelästert und gesagt: Mit meiner Wagen Menge erstieg ich die Höhen der Berge, den äußersten Libanon; ich hieb den Hochwuchs seiner Cedern um, seine auserlesensten Cypressen, und drang vor bis zu seiner äußersten Höhe, in seinen dichtesten Baumgarten.
25Ich grub und trank fremde Wasser und trocknete mit der Sohle meiner Füße alle Kanäle Ägyptens.
26Hörst du wohl? Von längsther habe ich es bereitet, von uralten Zeiten her habe ich es geordnet, jetzt aber habe ich es herbeigeführt, daß du feste Städte verheeren solltest zu wüsten Steinhaufen.
27Ihre Bewohner aber in ihrer Ohnmacht schraken zusammen und wurden zu Schanden, wurden wie Kraut auf dem Feld und sprossendes Grün Gras auf den Dächern und verdorrendes Korn.
28Dein Aufstehen und dein Sitzen ist mir offenbar dein Gehen und Kommen kenne ich wohl, sowie dein toben wider mich!
29Weil du denn wider mich tobst, und dein Übermut aufgestiegen ist zu meinen Ohren, so will ich dir meinen Ring in die Nase legen und meinen Zaum an deine Lippen, und will dich desselben Wegs zurückführen, auf dem du gekommen bist!
30Folgendes aber diene dir zum Wahrzeichen: Heuer wird man essen, was von selbst wächst, und im zweiten Jahre, was noch aus den Wurzeln wächst; im dritten Jahre aber sollt ihr säen und ernten und Weinberge pflanzen und ihre Frucht genießen.
31Und was vom Hause Juda entronnen und übrig geblieben ist, soll aufs Neue unten Wurzel schlagen und oben Frucht bringen.
32Denn von Jerusalem wird ein Überrest ausgehen und Entronnene vom Berge Zion; der Eifer Jahwes der Heerscharen wird solches thun!
33Darum spricht Jahwe also über den König von Assyrien: Er soll nicht in diese Stadt eindringen und keinen Pfeil darein schießen und soll mit keinem Schilde gegen sie anrücken, noch einen Wall gegen sie auffschütten.
34Desselben Wegs, auf dem er gekommen ist, soll er zurückkehren, aber in diese Stadt soll er nicht eindringen, ist der Spruch Jahwes.
35Und ich will diese Stadt beschirmen, daß ich sie errette, um meinetwillen und um meines Knechtes David willen.
36Da ging der Engel Jahwes aus und schlug im Lager der Assyrier 185000 Mann; und als man sich des Morgens früh aufmachte, fand man sie alle als leblose Leichen.
37Da brach Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, auf und zog ab, kehrte um und blieb zu Ninive.
38Und während er einst im Tempel seines Gottes Nisroch anbetete, ermordeten ihn seine Söhne Adrammelech und Sarezer. Sie flüchteten sich aber darnach ins Land Ararat, und sein Sohn Asarhaddon ward König an seiner Statt.

1ACONTECIÓ pues, que el rey Ezechîas, oído esto, rasgó sus vestidos, y cubierto de saco vino á la casa de Jehová.
2Y envió á Eliacim mayordomo, y á Sebna escriba, y á los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de sacos, á Isaías profeta, hijo de Amoz.
3Los cuales le dijeron: Ezechîas dice así: Día de angustia, de reprensión y de blasfemia, es este día: porque los hijos han llegado hasta la rotura, y no hay fuerza en la que pare.
4Quizá oirá Jehová tu Dios las palabras de Rabsaces, al cual envió el rey de Asiria su señor á blasfemar al Dios vivo, y á reprender con las palabras que oyó Jehová tu Dios: alza pues oración tú por las reliquias que aun han quedado.
5Vinieron pues los siervos de Ezechîas á Isaías.
6Y díjoles Isaías: Diréis así á vuestro señor: Así dice Jehová: No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.
7He aquí que yo doy en él un espíritu, y oirá un rumor, y volveráse á su tierra: y yo haré que en su tierra caiga á cuchillo.
8Vuelto pues Rabsaces, halló al rey de Asiria que batía á Libna; porque ya había oído que se había apartado de Lachîs.
9Mas oyendo decir de Tirhakah rey de Etiopía: He aquí que ha salido para hacerte guerra: en oyéndolo, envió mensajeros á Ezechîas, diciendo:
10Diréis así á Ezechîas rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, diciendo: Jerusalem no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.
11He aquí que tú oiste lo que hicieron los reyes de Asiria á todas las tierras, que las destruyeron; ¿y escaparás tú?
12¿Libraron los dioses de las gentes á los que destruyeron mis antepasados, á Gozán, y Harán, Rezeph, y á los hijos de Edén que moraban en Thelasar?
13¿Dónde está el rey de Amath, y el rey de Arphad, el rey de la ciudad de Sepharvaim, de Henah, y de Hivah?
14Y tomó Ezechîas las cartas de mano de los mensajeros, y leyólas; y subió á la casa de Jehová, y las extendió delante de Jehová.
15Entonces Ezechîas oró á Jehová, diciendo:
16Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que moras entre los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios sobre todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.
17Inclina, oh Jehová, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh Jehová, tus ojos, y mira: y oye todas las palabras de Sennachêrib, el cual ha enviado á blasfemar al Dios viviente.
18Ciertamente, oh Jehová, los reyes de Asiria destruyeron todas las tierras y sus comarcas,
19Y entregaron los dioses de ellos al fuego: porque no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombre, leño y piedra: por eso los deshicieron.
20Ahora pues, Jehová Dios nuestro, líbranos de su mano, para que todos los reinos de la tierra conozcan que sólo tú eres Jehová.
21Entonces Isaías hijo de Amoz, envió á decir á Ezechîas: Jehová Dios de Israel dice así: Acerca de lo que me rogaste sobre Sennachêrib rey de Asiria,
22Esto es lo que Jehová habló de él: Hate menospreciado, y ha hecho escarnio de ti la virgen hija de Sión: meneó su cabeza á tus espaldas la hija de Jerusalem.
23¿A quién injuriaste y á quién blasfemaste? ¿contra quién has alzado tu voz, y levantado tus ojos en alto? Contra el Santo de Israel.
24Por mano de tus siervos denostaste al Señor, y dijiste: Yo con la multitud de mis carros subiré á las alturas de los montes, á las laderas del Líbano; cortaré sus altos cedros, sus hayas escogidas; vendré después á lo alto de su límite, al monte de su Carmel.
25Yo cavé, y bebí las aguas; y con las pisadas de mis pies secaré todos los ríos de lugares atrincherados.
26¿No has oído decir que de mucho tiempo ha yo lo hice, que de días antiguos lo he formado? Helo hecho venir ahora, y será para destrucción de ciudades fuertes en montones de ruinas.
27Y sus moradores, cortos de manos, quebrantados y confusos, serán como grama del campo y hortaliza verde, como hierba de los tejados, que antes de sazón se seca.
28Conocido he tu estado, tu salida y tu entrada, y tu furor contra mí.
29Porque contra mí te airaste, y tu estruendo ha subido á mis oídos: pondré pues mi anzuelo en tu nariz, y mi freno en tus labios, y haréte tornar por el camino por donde viniste.
30Y esto te será por señal: Comerás este año lo que nace de suyo, y el año segundo lo que nace de suyo: y el año tercero sembraréis y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis su fruto.
31Y el residuo de la casa de Judá que hubiere escapado, tornará á echar raíz abajo, y hará fruto arriba.
32Porque de Jerusalem saldrán reliquias, y del monte de Sión salvamento: el celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.
33Por tanto, así dice Jehová acerca del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni echará saeta en ella: no vendrá delante de ella escudo, ni será echado contra ella baluarte.
34Por el camino que vino se tornará, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice Jehová:
35Pues yo ampararé á esta ciudad para salvarla por amor de mí, y por amor de David mi siervo.
36Y salió el ángel de Jehová, é hirió ciento ochenta y cinco mil en el campo de los Asirios: y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí que todo era cuerpos de muertos.
37Entonces Sennachêrib rey de Asiria partiéndose se fué, y volvióse, é hizo su morada en Nínive.
38Y acaeció, que estando orando en el templo de Nisroch su dios, Adremelech y Sarezer, sus hijos, le hirieron á cuchillo, y huyeron á la tierra de Ararat; y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.

1And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
2And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
3And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
4It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.
5So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
8So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
9And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
10Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
12Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?
13Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
14And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
15And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,
16O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
17Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.
18Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,
19And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
20Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
21Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:
22This is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
23Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
24By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.
25I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.
26Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.
27Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
28But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
29Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
30And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
31And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
32For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
33Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
34By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
35For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
36Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
37So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
38And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

1When King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the LORD’s house.
2He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.
3They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to give birth.
4It may be the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”
5So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘The LORD says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7Behold, I will put a spirit in him and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”
8So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he heard that he had departed from Lachish.
9He heard news concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “He has come out to fight against you.” When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
10“Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
11Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Shall you be delivered?
12Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?
13Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’”
14Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the LORD’s house, and spread it before the LORD.
15Hezekiah prayed to the LORD, saying,
16“LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
17Turn your ear, LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, LORD, and behold. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.
18Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land,
19and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.
20Now therefore, LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are the LORD, even you only.”
21Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “The LORD, the God of Israel says, ‘Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria,
22this is the word which the LORD has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
23Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.
24By your servants, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees. I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field.
25I have dug and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.”
26“‘Have you not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it in ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to destroy fortified cities, turning them into ruinous heaps.
27Therefore their inhabitants had little power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field, and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops, and like a field before its crop has grown.
28But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
29Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
30“‘This shall be the sign to you: You will eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from it; and in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.
31The remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
32For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and survivors will escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will perform this.’
33“Therefore the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
34He will return the way that he came, and he won’t come to this city,’ says the LORD.
35‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’”
36Then the LORD’s angel went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
37So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, went away, returned to Nineveh, and stayed there.
38As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
