1Vision d'Isaie, fils d'Amos, concernant Babylone.
2Faites flotter l'étendard sur la montagne de la plaine ; élevez la voix vers eux, appelez-les de la main ; princes, ouvrez vos portes.
3C'est moi qui les commande, c'est moi qui les conduis ; des géants viennent assouvir ma colère, pleins de joie et d'insolence.
4On entend sur les montagnes la voix de maintes nations ; et la voix de ces rois et de ces nations ressemble à celle d'une multitude assemblée. Le Seigneur des armées a donné ses ordres à une nation belliqueuse,
5Afin que le Seigneur et ses belliqueux combattants vinssent d'une terre lointaine et des extrémités du monde pour détruire toute la terre.
6Pousses des cris de douleur ; car il est proche le jour du Seigneur, où cette destruction viendra de Dieu.
7C'est pourquoi toute main sera énervée, et toute âme aura peur.
8Les anciens seront dans le trouble, et ils souffriront des maux comme ceux d'une femme qui enfante ; et ils se regarderont l'un l'autre dans une même douleur ; et ils seront hors d'eux-mêmes, et ils changeront de visage comme saisis par le feu.
9Car le voilà qui vient le jour du Seigneur, inévitable, plein de vengeance et de colère, pour rendre la terre déserte et en détruire les pécheurs ;
10Car les astres du ciel, Orion, toute la splendeur céleste, ne donneront plus de lumière ; et le soleil levant sera voilé de ténèbres, et la lune ne donnera plus sa clarté.
11Et je punirai les méfaits de toute cette terre et les iniquités de ces impies ; et je détruirai l'orgueil des pécheurs, et j'humilierai l'orgueil des superbes.
12Et ceux qui resteront seront plus rares que l'or naturel, et un de ces hommes sera plus rare que la pierre d'Ophir.
13Car le ciel sera irrité, et la terre ébranlée dans ses fondements par la colère terrible du Seigneur des armées au jour où surviendra sa colère.
14Et ceux qui resteront fuiront comme un jeune chevreuil, comma une brebis errante, et nul ne sera là pour les réunir ; et chacun retournera chez son peuple, chacun s'enfuira dans son pays.
15Quiconque sera surpris seul sera opprimé, et ceux qui seront réunis périront par le glaive.
16Et sous leurs yeux on écrasera leurs enfants ; on pillera leurs maisons, on violera leurs femmes.
17Voici que je vais susciter contre vous les Mèdes, qui comptent pour rien l'argent, et n'ont pas besoin d'or.
18Ils briseront les arcs des jeunes hommes, ils seront sans pitié pour vos enfants ; et vos fils, ils ne les épargneront point.
19Ainsi en sera-t-il de Babylone, que le roi des Chaldéens appelle glorieuse, comme de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, que Dieu a renversées.
20Elle ne sera plus jamais habitée, et l'on n'y rentrera plus durant de longues générations ; et les Arabes ne la traverseront plus, et les pasteurs ne viendront plus s'y reposer.
21Mais les bêtes fauves s'y reposeront, et ses maisons seront pleines de leurs cris ; les dragons y feront leur séjour, et les démons y danseront ;
22Et les onocentaures y habiteront, et les hérissons feront leurs nids dans leurs demeures.

2Levantad bandera sobre un alto monte; alzad la voz á ellos, alzad la mano, para que entren por puertas de príncipes.
3Yo mandé á mis santificados, asimismo llamé á mis valientes para mi ira, á los que se alegran con mi gloria.
4Murmullo de multitud en los montes, como de mucho pueblo; murmullo de ruido de reinos, de gentes reunidas: Jehová de los ejércitos ordena las tropas de la batalla.
5Vienen de lejana tierra, de lo postrero de los cielos, Jehová y los instrumentos de su furor, para destruir toda la tierra.
6Aullad, porque cerca está el día de Jehová; vendrá como asolamiento del Todopoderoso.
7Por tanto, se enervarán todas la manos, y desleiráse todo corazón de hombre:
8Y se llenarán de terror; angustias y dolores los comprenderán; tendrán dolores como mujer de parto; pasmaráse cada cual al mirar á su compañero; sus rostros, rostros de llamas.
9He aquí el día de Jehová viene, crudo, y de saña y ardor de ira, para tornar la tierra en soledad, y raer de ella sus pecadores.
10Por lo cual las estrellas de los cielos y sus luceros no derramarán su lumbre; y el sol se oscurecerá en naciendo, y la luna no echará su resplandor.
11Y visitaré la maldad sobre el mundo, y sobre los impíos su iniquidad; y haré que cese la arrogancia de los soberbios, y abatiré la altivez de los fuertes.
12Haré más precioso que el oro fino al varón, y más que el oro de Ophir al hombre.
13Porque haré estremecer los cielos, y la tierra se moverá de su lugar, en la indignación de Jehová de los ejércitos, y en el día de la ira de su furor.
14Y será que como corza amontada, y como oveja sin pastor, cada cual mirará hacia su pueblo, y cada uno huirá á su tierra.
15Cualquiera que fuere hallado, será alanceado; y cualquiera que á ellos se juntare, caerá á cuchillo.
16Sus niños serán estrellados delante de ellos; sus casas serán saqueadas, y forzadas sus mujeres.
17He aquí que yo despierto contra ellos á los Medos, que no curarán de la plata, ni codiciarán oro.
18Y con arcos tirarán á los niños, y no tendrán misericordia de fruto de vientre, ni su ojo perdonará á hijos.
19Y Babilonia, hermosura de reinos y ornamento de la grandeza de los Caldeos, será como Sodoma y Gomorra, á las que trastornó Dios.
20Nunca más será habitada, ni se morará en ella de generación en generación; ni hincará allí tienda el Arabe, ni pastores tendrán allí majada:
21Sino que dormirán allí bestias fieras, y sus casas se llenarán de hurones, allí habitarán hijas del buho, y allí saltarán peludos.
22Y en sus palacios gritarán gatos cervales, y chacales en sus casas de deleite: y abocado está á venir su tiempo, y sus días no se alargarán.

1The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
2Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.
4The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
5They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
6Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:
8And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
14And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.
15Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.
16Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
17Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.
19And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
22And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

2Set up a banner on the bare mountain! Lift up your voice to them! Wave your hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3I have commanded my consecrated ones; yes, I have called my mighty men for my anger, even my proudly exulting ones.
4The noise of a multitude is in the mountains, as of a great people; the noise of an uproar of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! The LORD of Armies is mustering the army for the battle.
5They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
6Wail, for the LORD’s day is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
7Therefore all hands will be feeble, and everyone’s heart will melt.
8They will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will seize them. They will be in pain like a woman in labor. They will look in amazement one at another. Their faces will be faces of flame.
9Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger; to make the land a desolation, and to destroy its sinners out of it.
10For the stars of the sky and its constellations will not give their light. The sun will be darkened in its going out, and the moon will not cause its light to shine.
11I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will humble the arrogance of the terrible.
12I will make people more rare than fine gold, even a person than the pure gold of Ophir.
13Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place in the LORD of Armies’ wrath, and in the day of his fierce anger.
14It will happen that like a hunted gazelle and like sheep that no one gathers, they will each turn to their own people, and will each flee to their own land.
15Everyone who is found will be thrust through. Everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
16Their infants also will be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Their houses will be ransacked, and their wives raped.
17Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not value silver, and as for gold, they will not delight in it.
18Their bows will dash the young men in pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb. Their eyes will not spare children.
19Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, will be like when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20It will never be inhabited, neither will it be lived in from generation to generation. The Arabian will not pitch a tent there, neither will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
21But wild animals of the desert will lie there, and their houses will be full of jackals. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will frolic there.
22Hyenas will cry in their fortresses, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. Her time is near to come, and her days will not be prolonged.
