1Ai dos juízes desonestos! Ai das autoridades que fazem leis injustas, que escrevem decretos opressores,
2vocês que não tratam com justiça os pobres, roubam os que já perderam quase tudo, exploram as viúvas e roubam dos órfãos!
3Vocês não terão meios de escapar quando eu trouxer de longe um castigo terrível! A quem vocês vão pedir ajuda? Onde vão esconder seus tesouros roubados?
4Eu não darei qualquer ajuda a vocês; alguns acabarão como prisioneiros, outros serão mortos. Apesar disso tudo, o Senhor continua cheio de ira e a sua mão continua estendida para castigar Israel.
5Ai da Assíria, a vara que eu vou usar para castigar esse povo, em cujas mãos está o bastão da minha ira!
6Eu os envio contra uma nação pecadora que me provocou até me enfurecer. Os assírios vão saquear e arrancar os bens, escravizar o povo de Israel e pisá-los como lama das ruas.
7Mas o rei da Assíria nem vai pensar que fui eu que fiz tudo isso. Ele vai pensar que esse ataque a Israel é parte do plano dele para conquistar o mundo.
8Ele pensa consigo mesmo: “Logo cada um dos meus príncipes vai ser rei de uma nação conquistada”.
9“Nós destruiremos Calno como destruímos Carquemis”, ele dirá, “e Hamate vai ser conquistada como Arpade. Nós acabaremos com Samaria do mesmo modo que fizemos com Damasco.
10Nós derrotaremos muitos outros reinos cujas imagens eram mais numerosas que as de Jerusalém e Samaria.
11E, quando acabarmos de destruir Samaria e os seus ídolos, chegará a vez de Jerusalém e os seus ídolos!”
12Quando o Senhor terminar de usar o rei da Assíria para corrigir Jerusalém e Sião, então ele dirá: “Castigarei o rei da Assíria pelo orgulho do seu coração e pelo olhar arrogante.
13“Pois ele diz: ‘Com a força da minha mão eu o fiz, e com a minha inteligência ganhamos todas essas guerras. Somos grandes, temos os melhores soldados. Nossos exércitos derrubaram muralhas, mataram muita gente e conquistaram grandes riquezas.
14Foi tão fácil apanhar as riquezas das nações quanto estender o braço e recolher os ovos em um ninho abandonado. Ninguém podia bater as asas, ninguém que desse um pio!’ ”
15Será que o machado pode se considerar mais forte que o lenhador? Ou a serra vale mais do que o carpinteiro? Seria como se um pedaço de madeira pudesse levantar uma pessoa, ou o bastão levantasse quem não é madeira.
16Por isso o Soberano, o Senhor Todo-poderoso, enviará contra os fortes guerreiros assírios uma praga que vai destruir boa parte do exército; no lugar da sua glória se acenderá um fogo como chama abrasadora.
17A Luz de Israel será o fogo, o seu Santo, uma chama. Em apenas um dia ele queimará todos esses espinheiros e as roseiras bravas.
18O grande exército assírio, majestoso como uma floresta, será destruído. O Senhor mesmo os matará, como um homem doente que definha aos poucos.
19Desse grande exército vai sobrar apenas um pequeno número de soldados. Qualquer criança poderá contar quantos são!
20Quando isso acontecer, finalmente, os remanescentes de Israel, os sobreviventes da descendência de Jacó, não vão mais confiar naquele que os feriu; voltarão a confiar no Senhor, o Santo de Israel, com toda a fidelidade.
21Um remanescente, sim, o remanescente de Jacó voltará para o Deus Poderoso.
22Mesmo que o povo de Israel seja como os grãos de areia do mar, apenas um pequeno número voltará. Deus, na sua justiça, já planejou castigar o seu povo.
23Pois o Senhor, o Deus Todo-poderoso, decidiu destruir esse país inteiro e ele executará o seu plano.
24É por isso que o Soberano, o Deus Todo-poderoso, diz: “Meu povo, moradores de Jerusalém, não tenham medo dos assírios quando eles vierem explorá-los e maltratá-los como os egípcios fizeram há tanto tempo.
25Isso não vai durar muito. Em breve o meu furor contra vocês vai passar, e então a minha ira se voltará contra os assírios”.
26O Senhor Todo-poderoso os castigará com um chicote como fez quando derrotou os midianitas na rocha de Orebe; ele erguerá o seu cajado contra o mar Vermelho, como fez no Egito.
27Naquele dia, Deus acabará com a escravidão do seu povo, tirará o fardo dos seus ombros, quebrará as correntes que prendem os judeus.
28Olhem, os exércitos da Assíria estão chegando! Entram em Aiate, passam por Migrom; em Micmás deixam um depósito de armas.
29Atravessam a estreita passagem perto de Geba. Lá eles passam a noite. A cidade de Ramá já está apavorada; os habitantes de Gibeá — terra de Saul — fogem para salvar suas vidas.
30Grite bem alto, povo de Galim. Avisem os habitantes de Laís. Ah, pobre cidade de Anatote!
31O povo de Madmena foge correndo, e os moradores de Gebim fogem para se salvar.
32Hoje mesmo os inimigos vão parar em Nobe para descansar. De lá eles ameaçam a cidade de Sião, a colina de Jerusalém.
33Mas, de repente, vejam! O Soberano, o Senhor Todo-poderoso, está derrubando as grandes árvores! Ele está destruindo o grande exército, os oficiais e os soldados como se cortam galhos altos de uma árvore! As grandes árvores serão lançadas por terra.
34Ele, o Poderoso, derrubará o inimigo como o machado do lenhador derruba as árvores altas na floresta do Líbano.

1¡AY de los que establecen leyes injustas, y determinando prescriben tiranía,
2Por apartar del juicio á los pobres, y por quitar el derecho á los afligidos de mi pueblo; por despojar las viudas, y robar los huérfanos!
3¿Y qué haréis en el día de la visitación? ¿y á quién os acogeréis que os ayude, cuando viniere de lejos el asolamiento? ¿y en dónde dejaréis vuestra gloria?
4Sin mí se inclinarán entre los presos, y entre los muertos caerán. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, antes todavía extendida su mano.
5Oh Assur, vara y bastón de mi furor: en su mano he puesto mi ira.
6Mandaréle contra una gente fementida, y sobre el pueblo de mi ira le enviaré, para que quite despojos, y arrebate presa, y que lo ponga á ser hollado como lodo de las calles.
7Aunque él no lo pensará así, ni su corazón lo imaginará de esta manera; sino que su pensamiento será desarraigar y cortar gentes no pocas.
8Porque él dice: Mis príncipes ¿no son todos reyes?
9¿No es Calno como Carchêmis, Hamath como Arphad, y Samaria como Damasco?
10Como halló mi mano los reinos de los ídolos, siendo sus imágenes más que Jerusalem y Samaria;
11Como hice á Samaria y á sus ídolos, ¿no haré también así á Jerusalem y á sus ídolos?
12Mas acontecerá que después que el Señor hubiere acabado toda su obra en el monte de Sión, y en Jerusalem, visitaré sobre el fruto de la soberbia del corazón del rey de Asiria, y sobre la gloria de la altivez de sus ojos.
13Porque dijo: Con la fortaleza de mi mano lo he hecho, y con mi sabiduría; porque he sido prudente: y quité los términos de los pueblos, y saqueé sus tesoros, y derribé como valientes los que estaban sentados:
14Y halló mi mano como nido las riquezas de los pueblos; y como se cogen los huevos dejados, así me apoderé yo de toda la tierra; y no hubo quien moviese ala, ó abriese boca y graznase.
15¿Gloriaráse el hacha contra el que con ella corta? ¿se ensoberbecerá la sierra contra el que la mueve? como si el bordón se levantase contra los que lo levantan; como si se levantase la vara: ¿no es leño?
16Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos enviará flaqueza sobre sus gordos; y debajo de su gloria encenderá encendimiento, como ardor de fuego.
17Y la luz de Israel será por fuego, y su Santo por llama que abrase y consuma en un día sus cardos y sus espinas.
18La gloria de su bosque y de su campo fértil consumirá, desde el alma hasta la carne: y vendrá á ser como abanderado en derrota.
19Y los árboles que quedaren en su bosque, serán en número que un niño los pueda contar.
20Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que los que hubieren quedado de Israel, y los que hubieren quedado de la casa de Jacob, nunca más estriben sobre el que los hirió; sino que se apoyarán con verdad en Jehová Santo de Israel.
21Las reliquias se convertirán, las reliquias de Jacob, al Dios fuerte.
22Porque si tu pueblo, oh Israel, fuere como las arenas de la mar, las reliquias de él se convertirán: la destrucción acordada rebosará justicia.
23Pues el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos hará consumación y fenecimiento en medio de la tierra.
24Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos dice así: Pueblo mío, morador de Sión, no temas de Assur. Con vara te herirá, y contra ti alzará su palo, á la manera de Egipto:
25Mas de aquí á muy poco tiempo, se acabará el furor y mi enojo, para fenecimiento de ellos.
26Y levantará Jehová de los ejércitos azote contra él, cual la matanza de Madián en la peña de Oreb: y alzará su vara sobre la mar, según hizo por la vía de Egipto.
27Y acaecerá en aquel tiempo, que su carga será quitada de tu hombro, y su yugo de tu cerviz, y el yugo se empodrecerá por causa de la unción.
28Vino hasta Ajad, pasó hasta Migrón; en Michmas contará su ejército:
29Pasaron el vado; alojaron en Geba: Ramá tembló; Gabaa de Saúl huyó.
30Grita en alta voz, hija de Galim; haz que se oiga hacia Lais, pobrecilla Anathoth.
31Madmena se alborotó: los moradores de Gebim se juntarán.
32Aún vendrá día cuando reposará en Nob: alzará su mano al monte de la hija de Sión, al collado de Jerusalem.
33He aquí el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos desgajará el ramo con fortaleza: y los de grande altura serán cortados, y los altos serán humillados.
34Y cortará con hierro la espesura del bosque, y el Líbano caerá con fortaleza.

1Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
2To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
3And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
4Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
5O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
6I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
8For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
9Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?
10As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
11Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
13For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:
14And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
15Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
16Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;
18And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.
19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.
20And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.
22For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.
24Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
25For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.
26And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
27And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
28He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:
29They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.
30Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.
31Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
32As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.
34And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

1Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees
2to deprive the needy of justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their plunder, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!
3What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth?
4They will only bow down under the prisoners, and will fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
5Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation!
6I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me I will give him a command to take the plunder and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7However, he doesn’t mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations.
8For he says, “Aren’t all of my princes kings?
9Isn’t Calno like Carchemish? Isn’t Hamath like Arpad? Isn’t Samaria like Damascus?”
10As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose engraved images exceeded those of Jerusalem and of Samaria,
11shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
12Therefore it will happen that when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his arrogant looks.
13For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding. I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers.
14My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned, I have gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing, or that opened their mouth, or chirped.”
15Should an ax brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood.
16Therefore the Lord, GOD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.
17The light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day.
18He will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. It will be as when a standard bearer faints.
19The remnant of the trees of his forest shall be few, so that a child could write their number.
20It will come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel, and those who have escaped from the house of Jacob will no more again lean on him who struck them, but shall lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21A remnant will return, even the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.
22For though your people, Israel, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.
23For the Lord, GOD of Armies, will make a full end, and that determined, throughout all the earth.
24Therefore the Lord, GOD of Armies, says, “My people who dwell in Zion, don’t be afraid of the Assyrian, though he strike you with the rod, and lift up his staff against you, as Egypt did.
25For yet a very little while, and the indignation against you will be accomplished, and my anger will be directed to his destruction.”
26The LORD of Armies will stir up a scourge against him, as in the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb. His rod will be over the sea, and he will lift it up like he did against Egypt.
27It will happen in that day that his burden will depart from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
28He has come to Aiath. He has passed through Migron. At Michmash he stores his baggage.
29They have gone over the pass. They have taken up their lodging at Geba. Ramah trembles. Gibeah of Saul has fled.
30Cry aloud with your voice, daughter of Gallim! Listen, Laishah! You poor Anathoth!
31Madmenah is a fugitive. The inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.
32This very day he will halt at Nob. He shakes his hand at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33Behold, the Lord, GOD of Armies, will lop the boughs with terror. The tall will be cut down, and the lofty will be brought low.
34He will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.
