1Als Israel jung war, gewann ich es lieb und rief seine Scharen aus Ägypten.
2Wenn ich sie rief, dann zogen sie sich vor mir zurück. Während sie den Götzen schlachteten und den Bildern opferten,
3gängelte ich die Ephraimiten wie Kinder und nahm sie auf meine Arme. Aber sie merkten nicht, daß ich ihre Schäden heilte.
4Mit Seilen, wie ein Mensch sie braucht, zog ich sie zu mir, mit Banden der Liebe, und verhielt mich gegen sie wie einer, der das Joch an ihren Kinnladen lüpft, und bot ihnen ihre Nahrung dar.
5Nach Ägypten sollen sie zurückkehren, und der Assyrier soll ihr König werden; denn sie weigern sich, zu mir umzukehren.
6So soll denn das Schwert gegen ihre Städte gezückt werden und ihre Riegel vernichten und ihre Burgen verzehren.
7Mein Volk hat nun einmal den Hang, sich von mir abzuwenden; und mag man ihnen ein aufwärts! zurufen, es strebt keiner empor.
8Wie könnte ich dich darangeben, Ephraim, dich preisgeben, Israel! Wie könnte ich dich darangeben wie einst Adma, ein Zeboim aus dir machen! Mein Sinn in mir verwandelt sich, all' mein Mitleid ist entbrannt!
9Mein heißer Zorn soll nicht zur That werden; ich will den Schritt nicht thun, Ephraim zu verderben. Denn ich bin Gott und nicht ein Mensch; als heiliger Gott wohne ich unter Euch und komme nicht zu euch in Wut.
10Sie werden Jahwe folgen, der wird gleich einem Löwen brüllen; ja, er wird brüllen, und Söhne werden zitternd herbeieilen.
11Wie Vögel werden sie zitternd aus Ägypten herbeieilen und wie Tauben aus dem Lande Assyrien. Dann will ich sie in ihren Häusern friedlich wohnen lassen, ist der Spruch Jahwes.

1CUANDO Israel era muchacho, yo lo amé, y de Egipto llamé á mi hijo.
2Como los llamaban, así ellos se iban de su presencia; á los Baales sacrificaban, y á las esculturas ofrecían sahumerios.
3Yo con todo eso guiaba en pies al mismo Ephraim, tomándolos de sus brazos; y no conocieron que yo los cuidaba.
4Con cuerdas humanas los traje, con cuerdas de amor: y fuí para ellos como los que alzan el yugo de sobre sus mejillas, y llegué hacia él la comida.
5No tornará á tierra de Egipto, antes el mismo Assur será su rey, porque no se quisieron convertir.
6Y caerá espada sobre sus ciudades, y consumirá sus aldeas; consumirálas á causa de sus consejos.
7Entre tanto, está mi pueblo adherido á la rebelión contra mí: aunque lo llaman al Altísimo, ninguno absolutamente quiere ensalzarle.
8¿Cómo tengo de dejarte, oh Ehpraim? ¿he de entregarte yo, Israel? ¿cómo podré yo hacerte como Adma, ni ponerte como á Zeboim? Mi corazón se revuelve dentro de mí, inflámanse todas mis conmiseraciones.
9No ejecutaré el furor de mi ira, no volveré para destruir á Ephraim: porque Dios soy, y no hombre; el Santo en medio de ti: y no entraré en la ciudad.
10En pos de Jehová caminarán: él bramará como león: cual león rugirá él de cierto, y los hijos se moverán azorados del occidente.
11Como ave se moverán velozmente de Egipto, y de la tierra de Asiria como paloma; y pondrélos en sus casas, dice Jehová.

1When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
2As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
3I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
4I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
5He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
6And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
7And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.
8How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.
9I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
10They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.
11They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD.
12Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

1“When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
2They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.
3Yet I taught Ephraim to walk. I took them by their arms, but they didn’t know that I healed them.
4I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love; and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks; and I bent down to him and I fed him.
5“They won’t return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian will be their king, because they refused to repent.
6The sword will fall on their cities, and will destroy the bars of their gates, and will put an end to their plans.
7My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won’t exalt them.
8“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me, my compassion is aroused.
9I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim, for I am God, and not man—the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath.
10They will walk after the LORD, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.
11They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will settle them in their houses,” says the LORD.
12Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit. Judah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.
