1Israel ist ein rankender Weinstock, der Frucht ansetzt. Je mehr Früchte er brachte, desto mehr Altäre bauten sie; je besser ihr Land war, desto schönere Götzenbilder machten sie.
2Ihr Herz ist geteilt, nun sollen sie es büßen: er wird ihre Altäre zerbrechen, ihre Götzenbilder zertrümmern.
3Dann werden sie bekennen müssen: «Wir haben keinen König mehr, weil wir den HERRN nicht fürchteten; und ein König, was kann der uns helfen?»
4Leere Worte reden, falsche Eide schwören, Bündnisse schließen, so daß das Gericht aufsproßt wie Unkraut aus den Furchen des Ackers!
5Um das Kalb von Beth-Aven wird den Einwohnern von Samarien bange sein; ja, seine Bevölkerung trauert darum, und seine Priester zittern seinetwegen, wegen seiner Herrlichkeit, weil sie von ihnen weggeführt wird.
6Ja, es selbst wird nach Assur gebracht, als Geschenk für den König Jareb: Scham erfaßt Ephraim, und Israel muß sich seines Rates schämen.
7Samariens König fährt dahin wie ein Zweig, der auf der Wasserfläche schwimmt;
8so werden die Höhen von Aven, die Sünde Israels, verwüstet; Dornen und Disteln werden auf ihren Altären wachsen. Da werden sie zu den Bergen sagen: Bedecket uns, und zu den Hügeln: Fallt über uns!
9Seit den Tagen Gibeas hast du, Israel, gesündigt! Daselbst sind sie stehen geblieben. Sollte sie nun nicht auch zu Gibea der Krieg erreichen, der wider die frevelhaften Kinder geführt wird?
10Ich will sie züchtigen nach Herzenslust, und es sollen Völker wider sie versammelt werden zur Züchtigung für ihre zwiefache Schuld!
11Ephraim ist eine Kuh, die ans Dreschen gewöhnt ist und es gerne tut; aber ich fahre über ihren schönen Hals; ich will Ephraim anspannen, Juda soll pflügen, Jakob soll ihm eggen!
12Säet euch Gerechtigkeit, erntet nach Maßgabe der Güte! Pflüget einen Neubruch, denn es ist Zeit, den HERRN zu suchen, bis daß er komme und euch Gerechtigkeit regnen lasse!
13Da ihr Gesetzlosigkeit pflügtet, habt ihr Unheil geerntet und Früchte der Falschheit gegessen. Weil du dich auf deine Wagen und die Menge deiner Helden verlassen hast,
14so soll sich Kriegslärm wider deine Völker erheben, und alle deine Festungen sollen zerstört werden, wie Schalman am Streittag Beth-Arbel zerstörte und die Mutter samt den Kindern zu Boden streckte.
15Dergleichen bringt Bethel über euch um eurer großen Bosheit willen; beim Morgenrot wird der König Israels vertilgt sein.

1ES Israel una frondosa viña, haciendo fruto para sí: conforme á la multiplicación de su fruto multiplicó altares, conforme á la bondad de su tierra aumentaron sus estatuas.
2Dividióse su corazón. Ahora serán hallados culpables: él quebrantará sus altares, asolará sus estatuas.
3Porque dirán ahora: No tenemos rey, porque no temimos á Jehová: ¿y qué haría el rey por nosotros?
4Han hablado palabras jurando en vano al hacer alianza: por tanto, el juicio florecerá como ajenjo en los surcos del campo.
5Por las becerras de Beth-aven serán atemorizados los moradores de Samaria: porque su pueblo lamentará á causa del becerro, y sus sacerdotes que en él se regocijaban por su gloria, la cual será disipada.
6Y aun será él llevado á Asiria en presente al rey Jareb: Ephraim será avergonzado, é Israel será confuso de su consejo.
7De Samaria fué cortado su rey como la espuma sobre la superficie de las aguas.
8Y los altares de Avén serán destruídos, el pecado de Israel; crecerá sobre sus altares espino y cardo. Y dirán á los montes: Cubridnos; y á los collados: Caed sobre nosotros.
9Desde los días de Gabaa has pecado, oh Israel: allí estuvieron: no los tomó la batalla en Gabaa contra los inicuos.
10Y los castigaré como deseo: y pueblos se juntarán sobre ellos cuando serán atados en sus dos surcos.
11Ephraim es becerra domada, amadora del trillar; mas yo pasaré sobre su lozana cerviz: yo haré llevar yugo á Ephraim; arará Judá, quebrará sus terrones Jacob.
12Sembrad para vosotros en justicia, segad para vosotros en misericordia; arad para vosotros barbecho: porque es el tiempo de buscar á Jehová, hasta que venga y os enseñe justicia.
13Habéis arado impiedad, segasteis iniquidad: comeréis fruto de mentira: porque confiaste en tu camino, en la multitud de tus fuertes.
14Por tanto, en tus pueblos se levantará alboroto, y todas tus fortalezas serán destruídas, como destruyó Salmán á Beth-arbel el día de la batalla: la madre fué arrojada sobre los hijos.
15Así hará á vosotros Beth-el por la maldad de vuestra maldad: en la mañana será del todo cortado el rey de Israel.
King James Version
1Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
2Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.
3For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
4They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
6It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
7As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
9O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
10It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
11And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
13Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
14Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.
15So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
World English Bible
1Israel is a luxuriant vine that produces his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
2Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.
3Surely now they will say, “We have no king; for we don’t fear the LORD; and the king, what can he do for us?”
4They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants. Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven, for its people will mourn over it, along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
6It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
7Samaria and her king float away like a twig on the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, “Cover us!” and the hills, “Fall on us!”
9“Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they remained. The battle against the children of iniquity doesn’t overtake them in Gibeah.
10When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the nations will be gathered against them when they are bound to their two transgressions.
11Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh, so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck. I will set a rider on Ephraim. Judah will plow. Jacob will break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
13You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
14Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness. At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.
