1Israel is a emptie vine, yet hath it brought foorth fruite vnto it selfe, and according to the multitude of the fruite thereof he hath increased the altars: according to the goodnesse of their lande they haue made faire images.
2Their heart is deuided: nowe shall they be founde faultie: he shall breake downe their altars: he shall destroy their images.
3For now they shall say, We haue no King because we feared not the Lord: and what should a King doe to vs?
4They haue spoken woordes, swearing falsly in making a couenant: thus iudgement groweth as wormewoode in the furrowes of the fielde.
5The inhabitants of Samaria shall feare because of the calfe of Beth-auen: for the people thereof shall mourne ouer it, and the Chemarims thereof, that reioyced on it for the glorie thereof, because it is departed from it.
6It shall bee also brought to Asshur, for a present vnto King Iareb: Ephraim shall receiue shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his owne counsell.
7Of Samaria, the King thereof is destroyed as the some vpon the water.
8The hie places also of Auen shall be destroied, euen the sinne of Israel: the thorne and the thistle shall growe vpon their altars, and they shall say to the mountaines, Couer vs, and to the hils, Fall vpon vs.
9O Israel, thou hast sinned from the daies of Gibeah: there they stoode: the battell in Gibeah against the children of iniquitie did not touch them.
10It is my desire that I should chastice them, and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall gather themselues in their two furrowes.
11And Ephraim is as an heifer vsed to delite in threshing: but I will passe by her faire necke: I will make Ephraim to ride: Iudah shall plowe, and Iaakob shall breake his cloddes.
12Sowe to your selues in righteousnes: reape after the measure of mercy: breake vp your fallowe grounde: for it is time to seeke the Lord, till he come and raine righteousnesse vpon you.
13But you haue plowed wickednesse: ye haue reaped iniquitie: you haue eaten the fruite of lies: because thou didest trust in thine owne waies, and in the multitude of thy strong men,
14Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy munitions shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbell in the daie of battell: the mother with the children was dashed in pieces.
15So shall Beth-el doe vnto you, because of your malicious wickednes: in a morning shall the King of Israel be destroied.

1ES Israel una frondosa viña, haciendo fruto para sí: conforme á la multiplicación de su fruto multiplicó altares, conforme á la bondad de su tierra aumentaron sus estatuas.
2Dividióse su corazón. Ahora serán hallados culpables: él quebrantará sus altares, asolará sus estatuas.
3Porque dirán ahora: No tenemos rey, porque no temimos á Jehová: ¿y qué haría el rey por nosotros?
4Han hablado palabras jurando en vano al hacer alianza: por tanto, el juicio florecerá como ajenjo en los surcos del campo.
5Por las becerras de Beth-aven serán atemorizados los moradores de Samaria: porque su pueblo lamentará á causa del becerro, y sus sacerdotes que en él se regocijaban por su gloria, la cual será disipada.
6Y aun será él llevado á Asiria en presente al rey Jareb: Ephraim será avergonzado, é Israel será confuso de su consejo.
7De Samaria fué cortado su rey como la espuma sobre la superficie de las aguas.
8Y los altares de Avén serán destruídos, el pecado de Israel; crecerá sobre sus altares espino y cardo. Y dirán á los montes: Cubridnos; y á los collados: Caed sobre nosotros.
9Desde los días de Gabaa has pecado, oh Israel: allí estuvieron: no los tomó la batalla en Gabaa contra los inicuos.
10Y los castigaré como deseo: y pueblos se juntarán sobre ellos cuando serán atados en sus dos surcos.
11Ephraim es becerra domada, amadora del trillar; mas yo pasaré sobre su lozana cerviz: yo haré llevar yugo á Ephraim; arará Judá, quebrará sus terrones Jacob.
12Sembrad para vosotros en justicia, segad para vosotros en misericordia; arad para vosotros barbecho: porque es el tiempo de buscar á Jehová, hasta que venga y os enseñe justicia.
13Habéis arado impiedad, segasteis iniquidad: comeréis fruto de mentira: porque confiaste en tu camino, en la multitud de tus fuertes.
14Por tanto, en tus pueblos se levantará alboroto, y todas tus fortalezas serán destruídas, como destruyó Salmán á Beth-arbel el día de la batalla: la madre fué arrojada sobre los hijos.
15Así hará á vosotros Beth-el por la maldad de vuestra maldad: en la mañana será del todo cortado el rey de Israel.

1Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
2Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.
3For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
4They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
6It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
7As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

World English Bible
1Israel is a luxuriant vine that produces his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
2Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.
3Surely now they will say, “We have no king; for we don’t fear the LORD; and the king, what can he do for us?”
4They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants. Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven, for its people will mourn over it, along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
6It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
7Samaria and her king float away like a twig on the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, “Cover us!” and the hills, “Fall on us!”
9“Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they remained. The battle against the children of iniquity doesn’t overtake them in Gibeah.
10When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the nations will be gathered against them when they are bound to their two transgressions.
11Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh, so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck. I will set a rider on Ephraim. Judah will plow. Jacob will break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
13You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
14Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness. At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.
