Fue pues José, a dar parte al faraón, diciéndole: Mi padre y hermanos con sus ovejas y ganados mayores y cuanto poseen, han venido del país de Canaán, y están detenidos en la tierra de Gesén.

Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

Hemos venido para vivir algún tiempo en tu tierra; porque en el país de Canaán no hay hierba para los ganados de tus siervos; y va creciendo el hambre; y te pedimos que nos permitas a tus siervos estar en la tierra de Gesén.
Dijeron además á Faraón: Por morar en esta tierra hemos venido; porque no hay pasto para las ovejas de tus siervos, pues el hambre es grave en la tierra de Canaán: por tanto, te rogamos ahora que habiten tus siervos en la tierra de Gosén.
They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.
They also said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.”
El rey dijo a José: Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a ti.

La tierra de Egipto a tu vista y disposición la tienes; dales para habitar el mejor sitio, y sea enhorabuena la tierra de Gesén. Y si conoces que hay entre ellos sujetos capaces, ponlos por mayorales de mis ganados.
La tierra de Egipto delante de ti está; en lo mejor de la tierra haz habitar á tu padre y á tus hermanos; habiten en la tierra de Gosén; y si entiendes que hay entre ellos hombres eficaces, ponlos por mayorales del ganado mío.
The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

Después de esto, introdujo José a su padre y le presentó al rey, Jacob le saludó deseándole toda suerte de felicidades;

Respondió: Los días de mi peregrinación son ciento treinta años pocos y trabajosos, y no han llegado a los días de la peregrinación de mis padres.
Y Jacob respondió á Faraón: Los días de los años de mi peregrinación son ciento treinta años; pocos y malos han sido los días de los años de mi vida, y no han llegado á los días de los años de la vida de mis padres en los días de su peregrinación.
And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

Con esto, después de haber deseado al rey toda suerte de felicidades, se retiró.

¿Por qué, pues, nos dejarás morir delante de tus ojos? Tanto nosotros, como nuestras tierras, seremos tuyos; cómpranos para servicio del rey, y danos con qué sembrar, no sea que pereciendo los labradores, quede la tierra despoblada.

Compró, pues, José todas las tierras de Egipto, vendiendo cada uno sus posesiones a causa del rigor del hambre; y las adquirió para el faraón,

para que podáis tener frutos. Daréis al rey la quinta parte; las otras cuatro os las dejo para simiente y mantenimiento de las familias y de vuestros hijos.
Y será que de los frutos daréis el quinto á Faraón, y las cuatro partes serán vuestras para sembrar las tierras, y para vuestro mantenimiento, y de los que están en vuestras casas, y para que coman vuestros niños.
And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.

La vida nos has dado, respondieron ellos; con que nos mire favorablemente el señor nuestro, alegres serviremos al rey.

Desde aquel tiempo hasta el día de hoy, se paga el quinto a los reyes en toda la tierra de Egipto, lo que ha venido a ser como ley; salvo las tierras de los sacerdotes, las cuales quedaron exentas de esta contribución.
Entonces José lo puso por fuero hasta hoy sobre la tierra de Egipto, señalando para Faraón el quinto; excepto sólo la tierra de los sacerdotes, que no fué de Faraón.

Fijó, pues, Israel su morada en Egipto, es a saber, en la tierra de Gesén, cuya posesión se le dio, donde se aumentó y multiplicó sobremanera.
