A fome persistia e se tornava cada vez pior na terra.

Y EL hambre era grande en la tierra.

And the famine was sore in the land.

The famine was severe in the land.

Quando acabou o cereal que os filhos de Israel tinham trazido do Egito, disse-lhes seu pai: “Voltem e comprem um pouco mais de mantimento”.

Y aconteció que como acabaron de comer el trigo que trajeron de Egipto, díjoles su padre: Volved, y comprad para nosotros un poco de alimento.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

When they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little more food.”

Mas Judá lhe respondeu: “O homem nos advertiu seriamente: ‘Não me verão se o irmão de vocês não vier com vocês’.

Y respondió Judá, diciendo: Aquel varón nos protestó con ánimo resuelto, diciendo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’

Se o senhor enviar o nosso irmão conosco, desceremos e compraremos mantimento.

Si enviares á nuestro hermano con nosotros, descenderemos y te compraremos alimento:

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

If you’ll send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy you food;

Mas se não o enviar, não desceremos, porque o homem nos disse: ‘Não me verão se o irmão de vocês não vier com vocês’ ”.

Pero si no le enviares, no descenderemos: porque aquel varón nos dijo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

but if you don’t send him, we won’t go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’”

Israel perguntou: “Por que me causaram esse mal contando àquele homem que tinham outro irmão?”

Y dijo Israel: ¿Por qué me hicisteis tanto mal, declarando al varón que teníais más hermano?

And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another brother?”

Eles responderam: “O homem nos perguntou a respeito de nós e de nossa família. Ele perguntou: ‘O pai de vocês ainda está vivo? Vocês têm outro irmão?’ Nós apenas respondemos às perguntas dele. Como poderíamos imaginar que ele faria esta exigência: ‘Tragam o seu irmão?’ ”

Y ellos respondieron: Aquel varón nos preguntó expresamente por nosotros, y por nuestra parentela, diciendo: ¿Vive aún vuestro padre? ¿tenéis otro hermano? y declarámosle conforme á estas palabras. ¿Podíamos nosotros saber que había de decir: Haced venir á vuestro hermano?

And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

Judá voltou a falar com o seu pai Israel: “Deixe o jovem aos meus cuidados e partiremos, para que vivamos e não morramos, nem nós, nem o senhor, nem as nossas crianças.

Entonces Judá dijo á Israel su padre: Envía al mozo conmigo, y nos levantaremos é iremos, á fin que vivamos y no muramos nosotros, y tú, y nuestros niños.

And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

Judah said to Israel, his father, “Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may live, and not die, both we, and you, and also our little ones.

Eu serei responsável por ele. O senhor me fará prestar contas. Se eu não o trouxer de volta e não o colocar diante da sua presença, serei culpado para sempre diante do senhor.

Yo lo fío; á mí me pedirás cuenta de él: si yo no te lo volviere y lo pusiere delante de ti, seré para ti el culpante todos los días:

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever;

Mas não nos faça demorar mais. Se tivéssemos ido, já estaríamos de volta a estas horas!”

Que si no nos hubiéramos detenido, cierto ahora hubiéramos ya vuelto dos veces.

For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.”

Então seu pai Israel respondeu: “Parece que não tenho escolha. Se tem de ser assim, assim será. Mas tratem de levar os produtos mais preciosos desta terra, coloquem nos sacos e levem-nos para aquele homem. Levem um pouco de bálsamo e um pouco de mel, perfumes finos e mirra, nozes de pistache e amêndoas.

Entonces Israel su padre les respondió: Pues que así es, hacedlo; tomad de lo mejor de la tierra en vuestros vasos, y llevad á aquel varón un presente, un poco de bálsamo, y un poco de miel, aromas y mirra, nueces y almendras.

And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

Their father, Israel, said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Take from the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down a present for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts, and almonds;

Levem dinheiro em dobro, e devolvam o pagamento da primeira compra que foi colocado na boca dos sacos de vocês. Pode ser que o dinheiro foi colocado nos sacos por engano.

Y tomad en vuestras manos doblado dinero, y llevad en vuestra mano el dinero vuelto en las bocas de vuestros costales; quizá fué yerro.

And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

Levem também o irmão de vocês e voltem àquele homem.

Tomad también á vuestro hermano, y levantaos, y volved á aquel varón.

Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

Take your brother also, get up, and return to the man.

Que o Todo-poderoso Deus lhes conceda misericórdia diante daquele homem, para que ele libere o seu outro irmão e deixe Benjamim voltar com vocês. Quanto a mim, se eu perder meus filhos, ficarei desolado!”

Y el Dios Omnipotente os dé misericordias delante de aquel varón, y os suelte al otro vuestro hermano, y á este Benjamín. Y si he de ser privado de mis hijos, séalo.

And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

May God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”

Então os homens pegaram os presentes, o dinheiro em dobro e a Benjamim, desceram para o Egito e se apresentaram a José.

Entonces tomaron aquellos varones el presente, y tomaron en su mano doblado dinero, y á Benjamín; y se levantaron, y descendieron á Egipto, y presentáronse delante de José.

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

Quando José viu que Benjamim estava com eles, disse ao administrador de sua casa: “Leve estes homens para casa, mate umas cabeças de gado e prepare tudo, porque estes homens almoçarão comigo ao meio-dia”.

Y vió José á Benjamín con ellos, y dijo al mayordomo de su casa: Mete en casa á esos hombres, y degüella víctima, y aderézala; porque estos hombres comerán conmigo al medio día.

And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, “Bring the men into the house, and butcher an animal, and prepare; for the men will dine with me at noon.”

Ele fez como José lhe havia ordenado e levou os homens para a casa de José.

E hizo el hombre como José dijo; y metió aquel hombre á los hombres en casa de José.

And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

The man did as Joseph commanded, and the man brought the men to Joseph’s house.

Os filhos de Israel ficaram com medo, quando viram que foram levados à casa de José, e diziam: “Estamos aqui por causa do dinheiro que voltou conosco nos sacos de mantimentos. Ele quer nos acusar, tornar-nos escravos e tomar os nossos jumentos”.

Y aquellos hombres tuvieron temor, cuando fueron metidos en casa de José, y decían: Por el dinero que fué vuelto en nuestros costales la primera vez nos han metido aquí, para revolver contra nosotros, y dar sobre nosotros, y tomarnos por siervos á nosotros, y á nuestros asnos.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

Resolveram falar com o administrador da casa de José

Y llegáronse al mayordomo de la casa de José, y le hablaron á la entrada de la casa.

And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

e disseram: “Por favor, senhor! Já estivemos aqui uma vez para comprar mantimento;

Y dijeron: Ay, señor mío, nosotros en realidad de verdad descendimos al principio á comprar alimentos:

And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

and said, “Oh, my lord, we indeed came down the first time to buy food.

quando paramos numa hospedaria, abrimos os sacos de mantimento e encontramos todo o dinheiro na boca de cada saco. Agora estamos aqui de novo e trouxemos de volta aquele dinheiro.

Y aconteció que como vinimos al mesón y abrimos nuestros costales, he aquí el dinero de cada uno estaba en la boca de su costal, nuestro dinero en su justo peso; y hémoslo vuelto en nuestras manos.

And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

When we came to the lodging place, we opened our sacks, and behold, each man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. We have brought it back in our hand.

Além disso trouxemos mais dinheiro conosco, para comprar mantimento. Não sabemos quem colocou o dinheiro nos sacos”.

Hemos también traído en nuestras manos otro dinero para comprar alimentos: nosotros no sabemos quién haya puesto nuestro dinero en nuestros costales.

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.”

Mas o administrador disse: “Paz esteja com vocês. Não tenham medo! O seu Deus, o Deus de seu pai, foi quem deu o precioso presente que vocês acharam nos sacos de cereais. O dinheiro de vocês chegou às minhas mãos”. Então soltou Simeão e o levou até onde eles estavam.

Y él respondió: Paz á vosotros, no temáis; vuestro Dios y el Dios de vuestro padre os dió el tesoro en vuestros costales: vuestro dinero vino á mí. Y sacó á Simeón á ellos.

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

He said, “Peace be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money.” He brought Simeon out to them.

Depois os levou à casa de José. Ofereceu água para lavarem os pés e deu ração aos seus jumentos.

Y metió aquel varón á aquellos hombres en casa de José: y dióles agua, y lavaron sus pies: y dió de comer á sus asnos.

And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

Então eles prepararam o presente para a chegada de José ao meio-dia, porque ficaram sabendo que iriam almoçar ali.

And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

Quando José chegou, eles lhe deram o presente e inclinaram-se diante dele, com os rostos no chão.

Y vino José á casa, y ellos le trajeron el presente que tenían en su mano dentro de casa, é inclináronse á él hasta tierra.

And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

Ele queria saber como eles estavam, e em seguida perguntou: “Vocês me falaram do seu pai idoso. Come ele vai? Ainda vive?”

Entonces les preguntó él cómo estaban, y dijo: ¿Vuestro padre, el anciano que dijisteis, lo pasa bien? ¿vive todavía?

And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

Eles responderam: “O seu servo, nosso pai, vai bem e ainda vive”. E novamente baixaram a cabeça e se inclinaram.

Y ellos respondieron: Bien va á tu siervo nuestro padre; aun vive. Y se inclinaron, é hicieron reverencia.

And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.

José dirigiu sua atenção para seu irmão Benjamim, filho de sua mãe, e disse: “É este o irmão mais novo de quem me falaram?” E acrescentou: “Deus conceda graça a você, meu filho”.

Y alzando él sus ojos vió á Benjamín su hermano, hijo de su madre, y dijo: ¿Es éste vuestro hermano menor, de quien me hablasteis? Y dijo: Dios tenga misericordia de ti, hijo mío.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin, his brother, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?” He said, “God be gracious to you, my son.”

A essa altura, não suportou mais a emoção em ver o seu irmão e saiu depressa, procurando um lugar para chorar. Ele entrou no seu quarto e ali chorou.

Entonces José se apresuró, porque se conmovieron sus entrañas á causa de su hermano, y procuró donde llorar: y entróse en su cámara, y lloró allí.

And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

Joseph hurried, for his heart yearned over his brother; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there.

Depois lavou o rosto e saiu. Conseguiu conter suas emoções e disse: “Sirvam a refeição”.

Y lavó su rostro, y salió fuera, y reprimióse, y dijo: Poned pan.

And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

Serviram a ele em separado dos irmãos e dos egípcios que estavam com ele, porque os egípcios não podiam comer com os hebreus. Isso seria um sacrilégio para eles.

Y pusieron para él aparte, y separadamente para ellos, y aparte para los Egipcios que con él comían: porque los Egipcios no pueden comer pan con los Hebreos, lo cual es abominación á los Egipcios.

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because the Egyptians don’t eat with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination to the Egyptians.

José determinou que seus irmãos fossem colocados à mesa, diante dele por ordem de idade, do mais velho ao mais novo. Isto causou certo espanto entre eles.

Y sentáronse delante de él, el mayor conforme á su mayoría, y el menor conforme á su menoría; y estaban aquellos hombres atónitos mirándose el uno al otro.

And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

Então, lhes serviram a comida. A porção dada a Benjamim era cinco vezes maior do que a dos outros. E eles beberam e se alegraram com ele.

And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin’s mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
