Da sprach er: Ich höre mit Bestimmtheit, daß es in Ägypten Getreide giebt. Zieht hin und holt uns von dort Getreide, damit wir am Leben bleiben und nicht sterben.

da erkannte Joseph seine Brüder, sobald er ihrer ansichtig wurde. Aber er stellte sich fremd gegen sie und er ließ sie hart an und fragte sie: Woher kommt ihr? Sie antworteten: Aus Kanaan, um Getreide zu kaufen.

And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

Da mußte Joseph an die Träume denken, die er in Bezug auf sie gehabt hatte. Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seid Spione! Ihr seid nur hergekommen, um zu erspähen, wo das Land eine schwache Stelle hat.

Er erwiderte ihnen: Nichts da! Ihr seid hergekommen, um zu erspähen, wo das Land eine schwache Stelle hat.

Sie antworteten: Unser zwölf sind deine Sklaven, lauter Brüder, Söhne eines Mannes in Kanaan; der Jüngste ist gegenwärtig noch bei unserem Vater, und einer ist verschwunden.
Y ellos respondieron: Tus siervos somos doce hermanos, hijos de un varón en la tierra de Canaán; y he aquí el menor está hoy con nuestro padre, y otro no parece.
And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.

Da sprach Joseph zu ihnen: Es ist so, wie ich euch gesagt habe: Spione seid ihr!

And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:

Damit sollt ihr euch ausweisen: so wahr der Pharao lebt, ihr sollt nicht eher von hier wegziehen, bis euer jüngster Bruder hierher gekommen ist.
En esto seréis probados: Vive Faraón que no saldréis de aquí, sino cuando vuestro hermano menor aquí viniere.
Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither.
By this you shall be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go out from here, unless your youngest brother comes here.
Schickt einen von euch hin, daß er euren Bruder hole; ihr aber müßt gefangen bleiben. So sollen eure Aussagen geprüft werden, ob ihr mit der Wahrheit umgeht oder nicht. So wahr der Pharao lebt - ihr seid doch Spione!
Enviad uno de vosotros, y traiga á vuestro hermano; y vosotros quedad presos, y vuestras palabras serán probadas, si hay verdad con vosotros: y si no, vive Faraón, que sois espías.
Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies.

Hierauf ließ er sie drei Tage in Gewahrsam legen.

Wenn ihr ehrliche Leute seid, so mag einer von euch Brüdern als Gefangener zurückbleiben, da wo ihr in Gewahrsam lagt; ihr andern aber zieht hin und schafft das Getreide hin, dessen ihr für eure Familien bedürft.
Si sois hombres de verdad, quede preso en la casa de vuestra cárcel uno de vuestros hermanos; y vosotros id, llevad el alimento para el hambre de vuestra casa:
If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:
If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.
Euren jüngsten Bruder aber müßt ihr mir herbringen; so werden sich eure Aussagen bewahrheiten, und ihr werdet dem Tode entgehen. Und sie thaten also.
Pero habéis de traerme á vuestro hermano menor, y serán verificadas vuestras palabras, y no moriréis. Y ellos lo hicieron así.
But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.

Da sprachen sie einer zum andern: Wahrlich, das haben wir an unserem Bruder verschuldet; denn wir sahen seine Angst, wie er uns anflehte; aber wir blieben taub! Darum sind nun diese Ängste über uns gekommen.
Y decían el uno al otro: Verdaderamente hemos pecado contra nuestro hermano, que vimos la angustia de su alma cuando nos rogaba, y no le oímos: por eso ha venido sobre nosotros esta angustia.
And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
They said to one another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”
Ruben aber sprach zu ihnen: Habe ich euch nicht gesagt: versündigt euch nicht an dem Kinde! Aber ihr wolltet nicht hören - nun aber wird Rechenschaft gefordert für sein Blut!
Entonces Rubén les respondió, diciendo: ¿No os hablé yo y dije: No pequéis contra el mozo; y no escuchasteis? He aquí también su sangre es requerida.
And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
Reuben answered them, saying, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”
Sie wußten aber nicht, daß Joseph sie verstand; denn sie verkehrten durch einen Dolmetscher.
Y ellos no sabían que los entendía José, porque había intérprete entre ellos.
And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.

Da wendete er sich abseits, um zu weinen, kehrte dann wieder zu ihnen zurück und redete mit ihnen; hierauf ließ er Simeon aus ihrer Mitte greifen und vor ihren Augen fesseln.
Y apartóse él de ellos, y lloró: después volvió á ellos, y les habló, y tomó de entre ellos á Simeón, y aprisionóle á vista de ellos.
And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.

Sodann gab Joseph Befehl, ihre Säcke mit Getreide zu füllen, dabei aber einem jeden sein Geld wieder in seinen Sack zu thun, auch ihnen Zehrung mit auf den Weg zu geben. Nachdem man sie demgemäß versorgt,
Y mandó José que llenaran sus sacos de trigo, y devolviesen el dinero de cada uno de ellos, poniéndolo en su saco, y les diesen comida para el camino: é hízose así con ellos.
Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.

luden sie ihr Getreide auf ihre Esel und zogen von dannen.
Y ellos pusieron su trigo sobre sus asnos, y fuéronse de allí.
And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence.

Als aber einer von ihnen im Nachtquartier seinen Sack öffnete, um seinem Esel Futter zu geben, da sah er sein Geld in seinem Getreidesack obenauf liegen.
Y abriendo uno de ellos su saco para dar de comer á su asno en el mesón, vió su dinero que estaba en la boca de su costal.
And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass provender in the inn, he espied his money; for, behold, it was in his sack’s mouth.
As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.
Da berichtete er seinen Brüdern: Mein Geld ist wieder da, hier liegt es in meinem Getreidesack! Da entsank ihnen der Mut, und bebend sahen sie einander an und riefen: Was hat uns da Gott angethan!
Y dijo á sus hermanos: Mi dinero se me ha devuelto, y aun helo aquí en mi saco. Sobresaltóseles entonces el corazón, y espantados dijeron el uno al otro: ¿Qué es esto que nos ha hecho Dios?
And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us?
He said to his brothers, “My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack!” Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling to one another, saying, “What is this that God has done to us?”
Als sie nun zu ihrem Vater Jakob nach Kanaan zurückgekehrt waren, berichteten sie ihm alles, was ihnen begegnet war, und sprachen:

And they came unto Jacob their father unto the land of Canaan, and told him all that befell unto them; saying,

Aber der Mann, der Herr des Landes, antwortete uns: Daran will ich erkennen, daß ihr ehrliche Leute seid: laßt einen von euch Brüdern bei mir zurück! Was ihr an Getreide für eure Familien bedürft, mögt ihr nehmen und abziehen.

Aber bringt mir euren jüngsten Bruder her, damit ich erkenne, daß ihr keine Spione, daß ihr ehrliche Leute seid. Alsdann werde ich euch euren Bruder wiedergeben, und ihr könnt das Land frei durchziehen.

Als sie aber ihre Säcke ausschütteten, fand sich das Geld eines jeden in seinem Sack. Und als sie samt ihrem Vater ihr Geld erblickten, da erschraken sie.
Y aconteció que vaciando ellos sus sacos, he aquí que en el saco de cada uno estaba el atado de su dinero: y viendo ellos y su padre los atados de su dinero, tuvieron temor.
And it came to pass as they emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man’s bundle of money was in his sack: and when both they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid.

Da sprach ihr Vater Jakob zu ihnen: Mich beraubt ihr der Kinder! Joseph ist verschwunden, und Simeon ist verschwunden und Benjamin wollt ihr wegnehmen - mich trifft das alles!
Entonces su padre Jacob les dijo: Habéisme privado de mis hijos; José no parece, ni Simeón tampoco, y á Benjamín le llevaréis: contra mí son todas estas cosas.
And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.

Da antwortete Ruben seinem Vater: Meine beiden Söhne magst du umbringen, wenn ich dir ihn nicht zurückbringe. Vertraue mir ihn an, ich werde ihn dir zurückbringen!
Y Rubén habló á su padre, diciendo: Harás morir á mis dos hijos, si no te lo volviere; entrégalo en mi mano, que yo lo volveré á ti.
And Reuben spake unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again.
Reuben spoke to his father, saying, “Kill my two sons, if I don’t bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again.”
Er antwortete: Mein Sohn soll nicht mit euch reisen; denn sein Bruder ist tot, und er ist allein übrig. Wenn ihm ein Unfall zustieße auf dem Wege, den ihr ziehen müßt, so würdet ihr schuld daran sein, wenn ich mit meinem grauen Haar voller Jammer hinunter müßte in die Unterwelt.
Y él dijo: No descenderá mi hijo con vosotros; que su hermano es muerto, y él solo ha quedado: y si le aconteciere algún desastre en el camino por donde vais, haréis descender mis canas con dolor á la sepultura.
And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
He said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”
