And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

Entonces Judá dijo á Onán: Entra á la mujer de tu hermano, y despósate con ella, y suscita simiente á tu hermano.
And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.”
Da aber Onan wusste, dass die Kinder nicht als die seinen gelten sollten, liess er es, wenn er zum Weibe seines Bruders ging, auf die Erde fallen und so verderben, um seinem Bruder nicht Nachkommen zu verschaffen.
Y sabiendo Onán que la simiente no había de ser suya, sucedía que cuando entraba á la mujer de su hermano vertía en tierra, por no dar simiente á su hermano.
And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

Aber dem Herrn missfiel, was er tat, und er liess ihn auch sterben.

And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

Da sprach Juda zu seiner Schwiegertochter Thamar: Bleibe als Witwe im Hause deines Vaters, bis mein Sohn Sela gross wird. Denn er dachte: auch er könnte sterben wie seine Brüder. So ging Thamar hin und blieb im Hause ihres Vaters.
Y Judá dijo á Thamar su nuera: Estáte viuda en casa de tu padre, hasta que crezca Sela mi hijo; porque dijo: Que quizá no muera él también como sus hermanos. Y fuése Thamar, y estúvose en casa de su padre.
Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, “Remain a widow in your father’s house, until Shelah, my son, is grown up;” for he said, “Lest he also die, like his brothers.” Tamar went and lived in her father’s house.
Und die Jahre vergingen; da starb die Tochter Suas, das Weib Judas. Als nun die Trauerzeit um war, ging Juda einst mit seinem Freunde Hira von Adullam zu seinen Schafscherern hinauf nach Thimna.
Y pasaron muchos días, y murió la hija de Súa, mujer de Judá; y Judá se consoló, y subía á los trasquiladores de sus ovejas á Timnath, él y su amigo Hira el Adullamita.
And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
After many days, Shua’s daughter, the wife of Judah, died. Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah, the Adullamite.
Nun sagte man der Thamar: Siehe, dein Schwiegervater geht hinauf nach Thimna, seine Schafe zu scheren.
Y fué dado aviso á Thamar, diciendo: He aquí tu suegro sube á Timnath á trasquilar sus ovejas.
And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.
Tamar was told, “Behold, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.”
Da legte sie ihre Witwenkleider ab, bedeckte sich mit dem Schleier und verhüllte sich; dann setzte sie sich an das Tor von Enaim, am Wege nach Thimna. Denn sie hatte gesehen, dass Sela herangewachsen war, und doch war sie ihm nicht zum Weibe gegeben worden.
Entonces quitó ella de sobre sí los vestidos de su viudez, y cubrióse con un velo, y arrebozóse, y se puso á la puerta de las aguas que están junto al camino de Timnath; porque veía que había crecido Sela, y ella no era dada á él por mujer.
And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.
She took off the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she wasn’t given to him as a wife.
Als Juda sie sah, hielt er sie für eine Dirne; denn sie hatte ihr Angesicht verhüllt.
Y vióla Judá, y túvola por ramera, porque había ella cubierto su rostro.
When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

Y apartóse del camino hacia ella, y díjole: Ea, pues, ahora entraré á ti; porque no sabía que era su nuera; y ella dijo: ¿Qué me has de dar, si entrares á mí?
And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
He turned to her by the way, and said, “Please come, let me come in to you,” for he didn’t know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?”
Er sprach: Ich will dir ein Ziegenböcklein von der Herde schicken. Sie erwiderte: Wenn du mir ein Pfand gibst, bis du es schickst.

Er sprach: Was willst du, dass ich dir zum Pfande gebe? Sie antwortete: Deinen Siegelring und deine Schnur und den Stab in deiner Hand. Da gab er es ihr und wohnte ihr bei, und sie ward von ihm schwanger.

And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
He said, “What pledge will I give you?” She said, “Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” He gave them to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him.
Und sie stand auf und ging ihres Weges, legte ihren Schleier ab und zog ihre Witwenkleider wieder an.

Juda aber sandte das Ziegenböcklein durch seinen Freund von Adullam, um das Pfand von dem Weibe wieder zu bekommen; der aber fand sie nicht.
Y Judá envió el cabrito de las cabras por mano de su amigo el Adullamita, para que tomase la prenda de mano de la mujer; mas no la halló.
And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.

Da fragte er die Leute an dem Orte: Wo ist die geweihte Buhle, die bei Enaim am Wege sass? Sie antworteten: Es ist gar keine geweihte Buhle hier gewesen.
Y preguntó á los hombres de aquel lugar, diciendo: ¿Dónde está la ramera de las aguas junto al camino? Y ellos le dijeron: No ha estado aquí ramera.
Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.
Then he asked the men of her place, saying, “Where is the prostitute, that was at Enaim by the road?” They said, “There has been no prostitute here.”
Und er kam wieder zu Juda und sprach: Ich habe sie nicht gefunden; auch sagen die Leute an dem Orte, es sei gar keine geweihte Buhle dagewesen.
Entonces él se volvió á Judá, y dijo: No la he hallado; y también los hombres del lugar dijeron: Aquí no ha estado ramera.
And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.
He returned to Judah, and said, “I haven’t found her; and also the men of the place said, ‘There has been no prostitute here.’”
Da sprach Juda: So mag sie es behalten, dass wir nicht ins Gerede kommen. Nun, ich habe das Böcklein geschickt, du hast sie aber nicht gefunden.
Y Judá dijo: Tómeselo para sí, porque no seamos menospreciados: he aquí yo he enviado este cabrito, y tú no la hallaste.
And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.
Judah said, “Let her keep it, lest we be shamed. Behold, I sent this young goat, and you haven’t found her.”
Etwa drei Monate später aber wurde Juda hinterbracht: Deine Schwiegertochter Thamar hat Unzucht getrieben und ist davon nun auch schwanger geworden. Da sprach Juda: Führt sie hinaus, sie soll verbrannt werden.
Y acaeció que al cabo de unos tres meses fué dado aviso á Judá, diciendo: Thamar tu nuera ha fornicado, y aun cierto está preñada de las fornicaciones. Y Judá dijo: Sacadla, y sea quemada.
And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
About three months later, Judah was told, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the prostitute. Moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.” Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burned.”
Schon wurde sie hinausgeführt, da schickte sie zu ihrem Schwiegervater und liess ihm sagen: Von dem Manne, dem dies hier gehört, bin ich schwanger. Und sie sprach: Sieh es an; wem gehören diese Dinge, der Siegelring und die Schnur und der Stab?
Y ella, cuando la sacaban, envió á decir á su suegro: Del varón cuyas son estas cosas, estoy preñada: y dijo más: Mira ahora cúyas son estas cosas, el anillo, y el manto, y el bordón.
When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.
When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “I am with child by the man who owns these.” She also said, “Please discern whose these are—the signet, and the cords, and the staff.”
Als Juda genauer zusah, sprach er: Sie ist im Rechte gegen mich; warum habe ich sie meinem Sohne Sela nicht gegeben! Doch verkehrte er nicht mehr mit ihr.
Entonces Judá los reconoció, y dijo: Más justa es que yo, por cuanto no la he dado á Sela mi hijo. Y nunca más la conoció.
And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

Als er aber seine Hand zurückzog, da kam sein Bruder heraus. Und sie sprach: Wie hast du dir doch einen Riss gerissen! Und man nannte ihn Perez. (1) d.i. Riss.
