1Als Dina, die Tochter Jakobs, welche Lea ihm geboren hatte, einst ausging, um sich unter den Mädchen des Landes umzusehen,
2da sah Sichem sie, der Sohn des Hewiters Hemor, des Landesfürsten; der ergriff sie und tat ihr Gewalt an.
3Sein Herz hing aber an Dina, der Tochter Jakobs; er gewann das Mädchen lieb und redete ihr freundlich zu.
4Er sagte daher zu seinem Vater Hemor: »Nimm mir dieses Mädchen zur Frau!«
5Nun hatte Jakob zwar von der Entehrung seiner Tochter Dina Kunde erhalten; weil aber seine Söhne gerade bei seinem Vieh auf dem Felde waren, verhielt er sich ruhig, bis sie heimkamen.
6Da begab sich Hemor, der Vater Sichems, zu Jakob hinaus, um mit ihm zu reden.
7Als nun die Söhne Jakobs vom Felde heimgekommen waren und von dem Vorfall hörten, fühlten die Männer sich schwer gekränkt und gerieten in lodernden Zorn; denn eine Schandtat hatte Sichem an Israel durch die Entehrung der Tochter Jakobs verübt: derartiges hätte nicht geschehen dürfen!
8Da sprach sich Hemor folgendermaßen gegen sie aus: »Mein Sohn Sichem hat sein Herz an eure Tochter gehängt; gebt sie ihm doch zur Frau
9und verschwägert euch (überhaupt) mit uns: gebt uns eure Töchter und nehmt euch die unsrigen
10und bleibt bei uns wohnen! Das Land soll euch zur Verfügung stehen: bleibt darin wohnen und durchzieht es und macht euch darin ansässig!«
11Sichem aber sagte zu ihrem Vater und zu ihren Brüdern: »Gewährt mir doch meine Bitte! Alles, was ihr von mir verlangt, will ich geben!
12Mögt ihr auch noch so viel als Heiratsgabe und Brautgeschenk von mir fordern: ich will euch geben, soviel ihr von mir verlangt; nur gebt mir das Mädchen zur Frau!«
13Da gaben die Söhne Jakobs dem Sichem und seinem Vater Hemor eine arglistige Antwort – es redeten nämlich die, deren Vollschwester Dina er entehrt hatte –;
14sie sagten nämlich zu ihnen: »Darauf können wir uns nicht einlassen, unsere Schwester einem unbeschnittenen Manne zu geben; denn das wäre eine Schande für uns.
15Nur unter der Bedingung wollen wir euch zu Willen sein, wenn ihr so werden wollt, wie wir sind, nämlich wenn alles, was männlichen Geschlechts bei euch ist, sich beschneiden läßt.
16In diesem Falle wollen wir euch unsere Töchter geben und auch eure Töchter uns zu Frauen nehmen und wollen bei euch wohnen bleiben und zu einem Volk mit euch werden.
17Wollt ihr aber auf unsern Vorschlag, euch beschneiden zu lassen, nicht eingehen, so nehmen wir unsere Tochter und ziehen von hier weg.«
18Ihr Vorschlag gefiel dem Hemor und seinem Sohne Sichem,
19und der junge Mann zögerte nicht, darauf einzugehen; denn er war in die Tochter Jakobs verliebt; auch war er der Angesehenste in der ganzen Familie seines Vaters.
20So gingen denn Hemor und sein Sohn Sichem auf den Marktplatz ihrer Stadt, besprachen sich mit ihren Mitbürgern und sagten:
21»Diese Männer sind friedlich gegen uns gesinnt; so mögen sie bei uns im Lande wohnen bleiben und darin umherziehen; das Land ist ja groß genug für sie nach allen Seiten hin. Wir wollen uns ihre Töchter zu Frauen nehmen und ihnen unsere Töchter geben.
22Jedoch nur unter der Bedingung sind die Männer gewillt, bei uns zu bleiben und ein Volk mit uns zu bilden, wenn alles, was männlichen Geschlechts bei uns ist, beschnitten wird, wie sie selbst beschnitten sind;
23ihre Herden, ihr Hab und Gut und all ihr Vieh würden alsdann uns gehören. Ja, wir wollen ihre Forderung annehmen, damit sie bei uns wohnen bleiben.«
24Der Vorschlag Hemors und seines Sohnes Sichem fand die Zustimmung aller, die zum Tor seiner Stadt hinauszugehen pflegten: alle männlichen Personen, alle, die zum Tor seiner Stadt hinauszugehen pflegten, ließen sich beschneiden.
25Am dritten Tage aber, als sie im Wundfieber lagen, da nahmen die beiden Söhne Jakobs, Simeon und Levi, die Vollbrüder der Dina, jeder sein Schwert, drangen in die Stadt ein, die nichts Böses ahnte, und erschlugen alles Männliche;
26auch Hemor und seinen Sohn Sichem erschlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, holten Dina aus dem Hause Sichems und zogen davon.
27Die (übrigen) Söhne Jakobs fielen dann über die Erschlagenen her und plünderten die Stadt, weil man ihre Schwester entehrt hatte.
28Ihr Kleinvieh, ihre Rinder und Esel, sowohl was in der Stadt als auch was draußen auf dem Felde war, nahmen sie weg,
29überhaupt ihren gesamten Besitz, auch alle ihre Kinder und Frauen führten sie als Gefangene und als Beute weg und raubten alles, was in den Häusern war.
30Da sagte Jakob zu Simeon und Levi: »Ihr habt mich ins Unglück gestürzt, indem ihr mich bei den Bewohnern des Landes, den Kanaanäern und Pherissitern, tödlich verhaßt gemacht habt, und ich bilde doch nur ein leicht zählbares Häuflein. Wenn sie sich jetzt gegen mich zusammentun, so werden sie mich erschlagen, und ich gehe samt meinem Hause zugrunde!«
31Sie aber antworteten: »Durfte er denn mit unserer Schwester wie mit einer Dirne verfahren?«

1Y SALIÓ Dina la hija de Lea, la cual había ésta parido á Jacob, á ver las hijas del país.
2Y vióla Sichêm, hijo de Hamor Heveo, príncipe de aquella tierra, y tomóla, y echóse con ella, y la deshonró.
3Mas su alma se apegó á Dina la hija de Lea, y enamoróse de la moza, y habló al corazón de la joven.
4Y habló Sichêm á Hamor su padre, diciendo: Tómame por mujer esta moza.
5Y oyó Jacob que había Sichêm amancillado á Dina su hija: y estando sus hijos con su ganado en el campo, calló Jacob hasta que ellos viniesen.
6Y dirigióse Hamor padre de Sichêm á Jacob, para hablar con él.
7Y los hijos de Jacob vinieron del campo cuando lo supieron; y se entristecieron los varones, y se ensañaron mucho, porque hizo vileza en Israel echándose con la hija de Jacob, lo que no se debía haber hecho.
8Y Hamor habló con ellos, diciendo: El alma de mi hijo Sichêm se ha apegado á vuestra hija; ruégoos que se la deis por mujer.
9Y emparentad con nosotros; dadnos vuestras hijas, y tomad vosotros las nuestras.
10Y habitad con nosotros; porque la tierra estará delante de vosotros; morad y negociad en ella, y tomad en ella posesión.
11Sichêm también dijo á su padre y á sus hermanos: Halle yo gracia en vuestros ojos, y daré lo que me dijereis.
12Aumentad á cargo mío mucho dote y dones, que yo daré cuanto me dijereis, y dadme la moza por mujer.
13Y respondieron los hijos de Jacob á Sichêm y á Hamor su padre con engaño; y parlaron, por cuanto había amancillado á Dina su hermana.
14Y dijéronles: No podemos hacer esto de dar nuestra hermana á hombre que tiene prepucio; porque entre nosotros es abominación.
15Mas con esta condición os haremos placer: si habéis de ser como nosotros, que se circuncide entre vosotros todo varón;
16Entonces os daremos nuestras hijas, y tomaremos nosotros las vuestras; y habitaremos con vosotros, y seremos un pueblo.
17Mas si no nos prestareis oído para circuncidaros, tomaremos nuestra hija, y nos iremos.
18Y parecieron bien sus palabras á Hamor y á Sichêm, hijo de Hamor.
19Y no dilató el mozo hacer aquello, porque la hija de Jacob le había agradado: y él era el más honrado de toda la casa de su padre.
20Entonces Hamor y Sichêm su hijo vinieron á la puerta de su ciudad, y hablaron á los varones de su ciudad, diciendo:
21Estos varones son pacíficos con nosotros, y habitarán en el país, y traficarán en él: pues he aquí la tierra es bastante ancha para ellos: nosotros tomaremos sus hijas por mujeres, y les daremos las nuestras.
22Mas con esta condición nos harán estos hombres el placer de habitar con nosotros, para que seamos un pueblo: si se circuncidare en nosotros todo varón, así como ellos son circuncidados.
23Sus ganados, y su hacienda y todas sus bestias, serán nuestras: solamente convengamos con ellos, y habitarán con nosotros.
24Y obedecieron á Hamor y á Sichêm su hijo todos los que salían por la puerta de la ciudad, y circuncidaron á todo varón, á cuantos salían por la puerta de su ciudad.
25Y sucedió que al tercer día, cuando sentían ellos el mayor dolor, los dos hijos de Jacob, Simeón y Leví, hermanos de Dina, tomaron cada uno su espada, y vinieron contra la ciudad animosamente, y mataron á todo varón.
26Y á Hamor y á Sichêm su hijo los mataron á filo de espada: y tomaron á Dina de casa de Sichêm, y saliéronse.
27Y los hijos de Jacob vinieron á los muertos, y saquearon la ciudad; por cuanto habían amancillado á su hermana.
28Tomaron sus ovejas y vacas y sus asnos, y lo que había en la ciudad y en el campo,
29Y toda su hacienda; se llevaron cautivos á todos sus niños y sus mujeres, y robaron todo lo que había en casa.
30Entonces dijo Jacob á Simeón y á Leví: Habéisme turbado con hacerme abominable á los moradores de aquesta tierra, el Cananeo y el Pherezeo; y teniendo yo pocos hombres, juntarse han contra mí, y me herirán, y seré destruído yo y mi casa.
31Y ellos respondieron: ¿Había él de tratar á nuestra hermana como á una ramera?

1And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
2And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.
3And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.
4And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.
5And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
6And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.
7And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
8And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.
9And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.
10And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.
11And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.
12Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.
13And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:
14And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
15But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;
16Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
17But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.
18And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor’s son.
19And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.
20And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,
21These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
22Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.
23Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.
24And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
25And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.
26And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out.
27The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,
29And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house.
30And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.
31And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?

1Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
2Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. He took her, lay with her, and humbled her.
3His soul joined to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young lady, and spoke kindly to the young lady.
4Shechem spoke to his father, Hamor, saying, “Get me this young lady as a wife.”
5Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; and his sons were with his livestock in the field. Jacob held his peace until they came.
6Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to talk with him.
7The sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. The men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had done folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing that ought not to be done.
8Hamor talked with them, saying, “The soul of my son, Shechem, longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.
9Make marriages with us. Give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.
10You shall dwell with us, and the land will be before you. Live and trade in it, and get possessions in it.”
11Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you will tell me I will give.
12Ask me a great amount for a dowry, and I will give whatever you ask of me, but give me the young lady as a wife.”
13The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit when they spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,
14and said to them, “We can’t do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised; for that is a reproach to us.
15Only on this condition will we consent to you. If you will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised,
16then will we give our daughters to you; and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
17But if you will not listen to us and be circumcised, then we will take our sister, and we will be gone.”
18Their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor’s son.
19The young man didn’t wait to do this thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, and he was honored above all the house of his father.
20Hamor and Shechem, his son, came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying,
21“These men are peaceful with us. Therefore let them live in the land and trade in it. For behold, the land is large enough for them. Let’s take their daughters to us for wives, and let’s give them our daughters.
22Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people, if every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised.
23Won’t their livestock and their possessions and all their animals be ours? Only let’s give our consent to them, and they will dwell with us.”
24All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor, and to Shechem his son; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.
25On the third day, when they were sore, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males.
26They killed Hamor and Shechem, his son, with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went away.
27Jacob’s sons came on the dead, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28They took their flocks, their herds, their donkeys, that which was in the city, that which was in the field,
29and all their wealth. They took captive all their little ones and their wives, and took as plunder everything that was in the house.
30Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I am few in number. They will gather themselves together against me and strike me, and I will be destroyed, I and my house.”
31They said, “Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?”
