And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.

Jacob se acercó a los pastores y les preguntó: ―Amigos, ¿dónde viven ustedes? ―Vivimos en Jarán —dijeron.
Y díjoles Jacob: Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde sois? Y ellos respondieron: De Harán somos.
And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.
Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”
―¿Conocen a un tal Labán hijo de Najor? —les volvió a preguntar. ―¡Claro que sí lo conocemos! —le contestaron.
Y él les dijo: ¿Conocéis á Labán, hijo de Nachôr? Y ellos dijeron: Sí, le conocemos.
And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”
Jacob continuó preguntando: ―¿Cómo está? ―Está bien y ha prosperado. Mira, allí viene su hija Raquel con las ovejas —le dijeron los pastores.
Y él les dijo: ¿Tiene paz? Y ellos dijeron: Paz; y he aquí Rachêl su hija viene con el ganado.
And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”
―Falta mucho para que se oculte el sol, y todavía es muy temprano para que encierren sus rebaños. ¿Por qué no le dan de beber al ganado para que sigan pastando antes de llevarlos a dormir? —preguntó Jacob.
Y él dijo: He aquí el día es aún grande; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, é id á apacentarlas.
And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.
He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
―Porque tenemos un acuerdo de que sólo quitaremos la piedra cuando ya estén juntos todos los rebaños. Sólo hasta ese momento podremos darles de beber a las ovejas —contestaron.
Y ellos respondieron: No podemos, hasta que se junten todos los ganados, y remuevan la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, para que abrevemos las ovejas.

And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

este le dijo: ―No hay razón para que trabajes para mí sin recibir pago por el hecho de ser parientes. ¿Cuánto quieres que te pague?
Entonces dijo Labán á Jacob: ¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me has de servir de balde? declárame qué será tu salario.
And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

Ahora bien, Labán tenía dos hijas: Lea, la mayor, y Raquel, la menor.

Jacob estaba enamorado de Raquel. Por lo tanto, le dijo a Labán: ―Trabajaré para ti siete años si me das a Raquel para que sea mi esposa.

―¡De acuerdo! —replicó Labán—. Prefiero dártela a ti antes que a alguien que no sea de la familia.
Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé á ti, que no que la dé á otro hombre: estáte conmigo.
And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

Así fue que Jacob trabajó los siete años siguientes para quedarse con Raquel. Sin embargo, le parecieron pocos días, porque estaba muy enamorado de ella.
Así sirvió Jacob por Rachêl siete años: y pareciéronle como pocos días, porque la amaba.

Finalmente, llegó el día en que Jacob podía casarse con Raquel. ―Cumplí mi parte del contrato —le dijo Jacob a Labán. Ahora dame a Raquel para que sea mi esposa.

And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

Entonces, Labán invitó a toda la gente de ese lugar e hizo una gran fiesta.

Como regalo de bodas, Labán le dio a Lea una esclava llamada Zilpá, para que la atendiera.
Y dió Labán su sierva Zilpa á su hija Lea por criada.

Al levantarse en la mañana, Jacob descubrió que era Lea con quien había dormido. Por eso, fue donde Labán y le reclamó: ―¿Qué clase de engaño es este? ¿Acaso no trabajé siete años para que me dieras a Raquel? ¿Qué es lo que pretendes al engañarme de este modo?
Y venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea: y él dijo á Labán: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿no te he servido por Rachêl? ¿por qué, pues, me has engañado?
And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?
In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”
Labán respondió en tono conciliador: ―No es costumbre entre nosotros que la hija menor se case antes que la mayor.
Y Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor.
And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Laban said, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Espera a que termine la semana de la fiesta de boda de Lea y te daré también a Raquel, siempre y cuando me prometas que trabajarás para mí otros siete años.
Cumple la semana de ésta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hicieres conmigo otros siete años.
Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.
Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me for seven more years.”
Jacob aceptó el trato. Entonces, cuando se cumplió la semana que le correspondía a Lea, Labán le dio a Jacob a Raquel por esposa.
E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquélla: y él le dió á Rachêl su hija por mujer.

Poco tiempo después volvió a quedar embarazada y tuvo otro hijo. A este le puso Simeón (el Señor oyó), porque dijo. «El Señor ha oído que no soy amada, y por eso me dio este otro hijo».
Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Por cuanto oyó Jehová que yo era aborrecida, me ha dado también éste. Y llamó su nombre Simeón.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

Nuevamente quedó embarazada y dio a luz un tercer hijo, al que llamó Leví (unido), porque dijo: «Seguramente ahora sí me amará mi marido, puesto que le he dado tres hijos».
Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Ahora esta vez se unirá mi marido conmigo, porque le he parido tres hijos: por tanto, llamó su nombre Leví.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

Por cuarta vez quedó embarazada y tuvo un hijo al que llamó Judá (alabanza), porque dijo: «Ahora alabaré al Señor». Entonces dejó de tener hijos.
Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Esta vez alabaré á Jehová: por esto llamó su nombre Judá: y dejó de parir.
And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
