1Da ließ Isaak den Jakob rufen, segnete ihn und gebot ihm: »Du darfst dir keine Frau aus den Töchtern der Kanaanäer nehmen.
2Mache dich auf, gehe nach Nord-Mesopotamien zum Hause Bethuels, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und hole dir von dort eine Frau, eine von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter!
3Der allmächtige Gott aber segne dich, er mache dich fruchtbar und lasse dich zahlreich werden, so daß du zu einem Haufen von Völkern wirst!
4Und er gewähre dir den Segen Abrahams, dir und deinen Nachkommen mit dir, damit du das Land, in dem du bis jetzt als Fremdling gewohnt hast und das Gott dem Abraham verliehen hat, in Besitz nimmst.«
5So ließ Isaak den Jakob ziehen, und dieser machte sich auf den Weg nach Nord-Mesopotamien zu Laban, dem Sohne des Aramäers Bethuel, dem Bruder Rebekkas, der Mutter Jakobs und Esaus.
6Als nun Esau sah, daß Isaak den Jakob gesegnet und ihn nach Nord-Mesopotamien hatte ziehen lassen, damit er sich von dort eine Frau hole, und daß er ihn gesegnet und ihm die Weisung gegeben hatte, keine Frau von den Töchtern der Kanaanäer zu nehmen,
7und daß Jakob seinem Vater und seiner Mutter gehorsam gewesen und nach Nord-Mesopotamien gezogen war:
8da merkte Esau, daß die Töchter der Kanaanäer seinem Vater mißfielen.
9Darum begab er sich zu Ismael und nahm zu seinen Frauen noch eine andere Frau hinzu, nämlich Mahalath, die Tochter Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, die Schwester Nebajoths.
10Als Jakob aber von Beerseba aufgebrochen war und sich auf die Wanderschaft nach Haran begeben hatte,
11gelangte er an die (heilige) Stätte und blieb daselbst über Nacht; denn die Sonne war schon untergegangen. Er nahm also einen von den Steinen, die dort lagen, machte ihn zu seinem Kopflager und legte sich daselbst schlafen.
12Da hatte er einen Traum: er sah eine Leiter, die auf der Erde stand und mit ihrer Spitze bis an den Himmel reichte, und die Engel Gottes stiegen auf ihr hinauf und herab.
13Plötzlich stand dann der HERR auf ihr und sagte: »Ich bin der HERR, der Gott deines Vaters Abraham und der Gott Isaaks; das Land, auf dem du liegst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen geben;
14und deine Nachkommen sollen so zahlreich werden wie der Staub der Erde; und du sollst dich nach Westen und Osten, nach Norden und Süden hin ausbreiten, und in dir und in deinen Nachkommen sollen alle Geschlechter der Erde gesegnet werden.
15Und siehe, ich will mit dir sein und dich überall behüten, wohin du gehst, und will dich auch in dieses Land zurückbringen; denn ich will dich nicht verlassen, bis ich das ausgeführt habe, was ich dir verheißen habe.«
16Da erwachte Jakob aus seinem Schlaf und sagte: »Wahrlich, der HERR ist an dieser Stätte gegenwärtig, ohne daß ich es wußte!«
17Da fürchtete er sich und rief aus: »Wie schaurig ist diese Stätte! Ja, hier ist das Haus Gottes und hier die Pforte des Himmels!«
18Am Morgen aber in aller Frühe stand Jakob auf, nahm den Stein, den er sich zum Lager für sein Haupt gemacht hatte, richtete ihn als Denkstein auf und goß Öl oben darauf.
19Er gab dann jener Stätte den Namen ›Bethel‹ – vordem hatte die Ortschaft ›Lus‹ geheißen –
20und sprach hierauf folgendes Gelübde aus: »Wenn Gott mit mir ist und mich auf dem Wege, den ich jetzt gehen muß, behütet und mir Brot zur Nahrung und Kleidung zum Anziehen gibt
21und ich glücklich in mein Vaterhaus zurückkehre, so soll der HERR mein Gott sein,
22und dieser Stein, den ich als Denkstein aufgerichtet habe, soll zu einem Gotteshause werden, und von allem, was du mir geben wirst, will ich dir getreulich den Zehnten entrichten!«

1ENTONCES Isaac llamó á Jacob, y bendíjolo, y mandóle diciendo: No tomes mujer de las hijas de Canaán.
2Levántate, ve á Padan-aram, á casa de Bethuel, padre de tu madre, y toma allí mujer de las hijas de Labán, hermano de tu madre.
3Y el Dios omnipotente te bendiga, y te haga fructificar, y te multiplique, hasta venir á ser congregación de pueblos;
4Y te dé la bendición de Abraham, y á tu simiente contigo, para que heredes la tierra de tus peregrinaciones, que Dios dió á Abraham.
5Así envió Isaac á Jacob, el cual fué á Padan-aram, á Labán, hijo de Bethuel Arameo, hermano de Rebeca, madre de Jacob y de Esaú.
6Y vió Esaú cómo Isaac había bendecido á Jacob, y le había enviado á Padan-aram, para tomar para sí mujer de allí; y que cuando le bendijo, le había mandado, diciendo: No tomarás mujer de las hijas de Canaán;
7Y que Jacob había obedecido á su padre y á su madre, y se había ido á Padan-aram.
8Vió asimismo Esaú que las hijas de Canaán parecían mal á Isaac su padre;
9Y fuése Esaú á Ismael, y tomó para sí por mujer á Mahaleth, hija de Ismael, hijo de Abraham, hermana de Nabaioth, además de sus otras mujeres.
10Y salió Jacob de Beer-seba, y fué á Harán;
11Y encontró con un lugar, y durmió allí, porque ya el sol se había puesto: y tomó de las piedras de aquel paraje y puso á su cabecera, y acostóse en aquel lugar.
12Y soñó, y he aquí una escala que estaba apoyada en tierra, y su cabeza tocaba en el cielo: y he aquí ángeles de Dios que subían y descendían por ella.
13Y he aquí, Jehová estaba en lo alto de ella, el cual dijo: Yo soy Jehová, el Dios de Abraham tu padre, y el Dios de Isaac: la tierra en que estás acostado te la daré á ti y á tu simiente.
14Y será tu simiente como el polvo de la tierra, y te extenderás al occidente, y al oriente, y al aquilón, y al mediodía; y todas las familias de la tierra serán benditas en ti y en tu simiente.
15Y he aquí, yo soy contigo, y te guardaré por donde quiera que fueres, y te volveré á esta tierra; porque no te dejaré hasta tanto que haya hecho lo que te he dicho.
16Y despertó Jacob de su sueño, y dijo: Ciertamente Jehová está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía.
17Y tuvo miedo, y dijo: ¡Cuán terrible es este lugar! No es otra cosa que casa de Dios, y puerta del cielo.
18Y levantóse Jacob de mañana, y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, y alzóla por título, y derramó aceite encima de ella.
19Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Beth-el, bien que Luz era el nombre de la ciudad primero.
20E hizo Jacob voto, diciendo: Si fuere Dios conmigo, y me guardare en este viaje que voy, y me diere pan para comer y vestido para vestir,
21Y si tornare en paz á casa de mi padre, Jehová será mi Dios,
22Y esta piedra que he puesto por título, será casa de Dios: y de todo lo que me dieres, el diezmo lo he de apartar para ti.

1And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
3And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
4And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
5And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan-aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
7And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-aram;
8And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
9Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
10And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.
11And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

1Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
3May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,
4and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”
5Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”
7and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
8Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.
9So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.
10Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
13Behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.
14Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.
15Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
16Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”
17He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”
18Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.
19He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
20Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,
