Isaac estaba muy viejo y se había quedado ciego. Un día llamó a Esaú, su hijo mayor, y le dijo: ―¡Hijo mío! ―¿Qué quieres, padre? —contestó Esaú.
Y ACONTECIÓ que cuando hubo Isaac envejecido, y sus ojos se ofuscaron quedando sin vista, llamó á Esaú, su hijo el mayor, y díjole: Mi hijo. Y él respondió: Heme aquí.
And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.

Luego prepárame un guiso sabroso, como a mí me gusta, y me lo traes para comérmelo. Después de eso te daré mi bendición antes de morir.

Rebeca oyó la conversación que Isaac tuvo con su hijo Esaú. Así que tan pronto este salió al campo a cazar un animal para su padre,

que fuera a cazar algún animal para que le preparara un guiso, y que después de eso le daría su bendición.
Tráeme caza, y hazme un guisado, para que coma, y te bendiga delante de Jehová antes que yo muera.
Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.
‘Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before the LORD before my death.’
Ahora, hijo mío, préstame atención y haz exactamente lo que yo te voy a decir:

Ve al rebaño y tráeme dos de los mejores cabritos. Con ellos le prepararé un guiso sabroso a tu padre, tal como a él le gusta.
Ve ahora al ganado, y tráeme de allí dos buenos cabritos de las cabras, y haré de ellos viandas para tu padre, como él gusta;
Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:

Luego tú se lo servirás, y cuando él se lo haya comido, te dará la bendición antes de su muerte.
Y tú las llevarás á tu padre, y comerá, para que te bendiga antes de su muerte.
And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.

―Pero, madre —dijo Jacob—, mi hermano es muy velludo, mientras que yo soy lampiño.

Si a mi padre le da por tocarme pensará que me estoy burlando de él. Entonces, en vez de bendecirme me maldecirá.
Quizá me tentará mi padre, y me tendrá por burlador, y traeré sobre mí maldición y no bendición.
My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

―Que sus maldiciones caigan sobre mí, hijo mío —dijo ella—. Haz lo que te he dicho. Ve a buscar los cabritos.
Y su madre respondió: Hijo mío, sobre mí tu maldición: solamente obedece á mi voz, y ve y tráemelos.
And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.

Jacob siguió las instrucciones de su madre y le trajo los dos cabritos. Su madre preparó un guiso tal como le gustaba a Isaac.
Entonces él fué, y tomó, y trájolos á su madre: y su madre hizo guisados, como su padre gustaba.
And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.

Enseguida tomó la mejor ropa de su hijo Esaú, que este había dejado en la casa, y le pidió a Jacob que se la pusiera.
Y tomó Rebeca los vestidos de Esaú su hijo mayor, los preciosos, que ella tenía en casa, y vistió á Jacob su hijo menor:
And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:

Luego, con la piel de los cabritos, Rebeca le cubrió a Jacob los brazos y la parte del cuello donde no tenía vellos.

Después, le entregó a Jacob el guiso y el pan que había preparado.

Jacob llevó la bandeja con la comida a la pieza donde estaba su padre. ―¡Padre! —dijo Jacob. ―Aquí estoy, hijo mío. ¿Quién eres tú? —preguntó Isaac.

―Soy Esaú, tu hijo mayor —dijo Jacob—. Hice lo que me dijiste que hiciera. Este es el guiso que preparé con lo que he cazado. Siéntate y cómelo, para que me bendigas.

And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.

Entonces Isaac le preguntó: ―Hijo mío, ¿cómo pudiste hacerlo con tanta rapidez? ―Porque el Señor, tu Dios, me permitió encontrar el animal muy pronto —respondió Jacob.
Entonces Isaac dijo á su hijo: ¿Cómo es que la hallaste tan presto, hijo mío? Y él respondió: Porque Jehová tu Dios hizo que se encontrase delante de mí.
And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.
Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” He said, “Because the LORD your God gave me success.”
―Acércate —le ordenó Isaac—. Quiero palparte para estar seguro de que eres mi hijo Esaú.
E Isaac dijo á Jacob: Acércate ahora, y te palparé, hijo mío, por si eres mi hijo Esaú, ó no.
And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.”
Jacob se acercó a su padre, y él lo palpó. «Es la voz de Jacob —dijo Isaac para sí—, pero las manos son las de Esaú».
Y llegóse Jacob á su padre Isaac; y él le palpó, y dijo: La voz es la voz de Jacob, mas las manos, las manos de Esaú.
And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

Así que Isaac no reconoció a Jacob, porque sus manos eran tan velludas como las de su hermano Esaú. Antes de bendecir a Jacob,
Y no le conoció, porque sus manos eran vellosas como las manos de Esaú: y le bendijo.
And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.

Isaac volvió a preguntarle: ―¿Eres realmente Esaú? ―Sí, por supuesto —respondió Jacob.
Y dijo: ¿Eres tú mi hijo Esaú? Y él respondió: Yo soy.
And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He said, “I am.”
―Entonces pásame el guiso de lo que cazaste. Me lo comeré y luego te bendeciré. Jacob se lo pasó, e Isaac comió; también bebió el vino que Jacob le había llevado.
Y dijo: Acércamela, y comeré de la caza de mi hijo, para que te bendiga mi alma; y él se la acercó, y comió: trájole también vino, y bebió.
And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.
He said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless you.” He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank.
―Acércate y bésame, hijo mío —dijo Isaac.
Y díjole Isaac su padre: Acércate ahora, y bésame, hijo mío.

Jacob se acercó y besó a su padre. Al oler la ropa que Jacob llevaba puesta, Isaac lo bendijo con estas palabras: «El olor de mi hijo es como el buen aroma de un campo bendecido por el Señor.
Y él se llegó, y le besó; y olió Isaac el olor de sus vestidos, y le bendijo, y dijo: Mira, el olor de mi hijo como el olor del campo que Jehová ha bendecido:
And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, “Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed.
Que Dios te dé siempre abundante agua del cielo; que te dé cosechas abundantes, y mucho trigo y vino.
Dios, pues, te dé del rocío del cielo, y de las grosuras de la tierra, y abundancia de trigo y de mosto.
Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and new wine.
Que muchas naciones te sirvan; que muchos pueblos se inclinen delante de ti. Que seas el amo de todos tus parientes, y que todos ellos se inclinen delante de ti. Malditos sean los que te maldigan, y benditos los que te bendigan».
Sírvante pueblos, y naciones se inclinen á ti: sé señor de tus hermanos, e inclínense á ti los hijos de tu madre: malditos los que te maldijeren, y benditos los que te bendijeren.
Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.
Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers. Let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you. Blessed be everyone who blesses you.”
En cuanto Isaac hubo bendecido a Jacob, y casi en el momento en que este salía de la carpa de su padre, llegó Esaú del campo con su caza.
Y aconteció, luego que hubo Isaac acabado de bendecir á Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de delante de Isaac su padre, que Esaú su hermano vino de su caza.
And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

También la preparó en la forma que a su padre le gustaba y se la llevó. ―Padre —dijo Esaú—, aquí está lo que te he preparado con lo que he cazado. Siéntate y come, para que me des la mejor de tus bendiciones.
E hizo él también guisados, y trajo á su padre, y díjole: Levántese mi padre, y coma de la caza de su hijo, para que me bendiga tu alma.
And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that thy soul may bless me.
He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, “Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that your soul may bless me.”
―Pero, ¿quién eres tú? —preguntó Isaac. ―Pues, yo soy Esaú, tu hijo primogénito —le contestó.
Entonces Isaac su padre le dijo: ¿Quién eres tú? Y él dijo: Yo soy tu hijo, tu primogénito, Esaú.
And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.
Isaac his father said to him, “Who are you?” He said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”
Isaac se estremeció fuertemente y dijo a Esaú: ―Entonces, ¿quién fue el que estuvo aquí y me trajo un guiso? Acabo de comerme el guiso que me trajo, y le di mi bendición, y nadie se la podrá quitar.
Y estremecióse Isaac con grande estremecimiento, y dijo: ¿Quién es el que vino aquí, que cogió caza, y me trajo, y comí de todo antes que vinieses? Yo le bendije, y será bendito.
And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
Isaac trembled violently, and said, “Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.”
Cuando Esaú escuchó esto, comenzó a llorar con profunda amargura, y le dijo: ―Padre mío, ¡bendíceme también a mí!
Como Esaú oyó las palabras de su padre, clamó con una muy grande y muy amarga exclamación, y le dijo: Bendíceme también á mí, padre mío.
And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

Isaac le contestó: ―Tu hermano estuvo aquí, me engañó y se llevó tu bendición.
Y él dijo: Vino tu hermano con engaño, y tomó tu bendición.
And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
He said, “Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing.”
―¡Con razón lo llamaron Jacob! —dijo Esaú con amargura—. Primero se apoderó de mi primogenitura, y ahora me ha robado tu bendición. Padre, ¿no has guardado una bendición para mí?
Y él respondió: Bien llamaron su nombre Jacob, que ya me ha engañado dos veces; alzóse con mi primogenitura, y he aquí ahora ha tomado mi bendición. Y dijo: ¿No has guardado bendición para mí?
And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
He said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing.” He said, “Haven’t you reserved a blessing for me?”
―Lo he puesto por señor tuyo y le he dado por siervos a todos sus parientes —le respondió Isaac—. Le he garantizado que tendrá abundancia de grano y de vino. ¿Qué puedo darte a ti, hijo mío?
Isaac respondió y dijo á Esaú: He aquí yo le he puesto por señor tuyo, y le he dado por siervos á todos sus hermanos: de trigo y de vino le he provisto: ¿qué, pues, te haré á ti ahora, hijo mío?
And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
Isaac answered Esau, “Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants. I have sustained him with grain and new wine. What then will I do for you, my son?”
Esaú insistió: ―¿No tienes ninguna bendición para mí? ¡Padre mío, bendíceme también a mí! Y se puso a llorar a gritos.
Y Esaú respondió á su padre: ¿No tienes más que una sola bendición, padre mío? bendíceme también á mí, padre mío. Y alzó Esaú su voz, y lloró.
And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

Entonces Isaac le dijo: «Vivirás lejos de las tierras fértiles y de la lluvia que cae del cielo.
Entonces Isaac su padre habló y díjole: He aquí será tu habitación en grosuras de la tierra, y del rocío de los cielos de arriba;
And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

Para poder vivir tendrás que usar tu espada, y servirás a tu hermano por un tiempo. Pero cuando seas más fuerte te liberarás del dominio de tu hermano».
Y por tu espada vivirás, y á tu hermano servirás: y sucederá cuando te enseñorees, que descargarás su yugo de tu cerviz.
And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you will shake his yoke from off your neck.”
Entonces Esaú se llenó de odio contra Jacob por lo que este le había hecho, y se dijo: «Pronto morirá mi padre, y en cuanto esto haya ocurrido, mataré a Jacob».
Y aborreció Esaú á Jacob por la bendición con que le había bendecido, y dijo en su corazón: Llegarán los días del luto de mi padre, y yo mataré á Jacob mi hermano.
And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

A Rebeca le contaron lo que estaba planeando Esaú. Entonces mandó a llamar a Jacob, y le dijo: ―Me he enterado de que tu hermano Esaú anda con intenciones de matarte.
Y fueron dichas á Rebeca las palabras de Esaú su hijo mayor: y ella envió y llamó á Jacob su hijo menor, y díjole: He aquí, Esaú tu hermano se consuela acerca de ti con la idea de matarte.
And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
The words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah. She sent and called Jacob, her younger son, and said to him, “Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.
Por eso, hijo mío, haz lo que te voy a decir: Levántate y vete a la casa de mi hermano Labán, que vive en Jarán.
Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedece á mi voz; levántate, y húyete á Labán mi hermano, á Harán;
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;

Quédate allá hasta que el tiempo haya aplacado la furia de tu hermano y se haya olvidado de lo que hiciste. Entonces yo te mandaré a buscar. ¿Por qué he de perder a los dos el mismo día?
Y mora con él algunos días, hasta que el enojo de tu hermano se mitigue;
And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother’s fury turn away;
Stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away—

Hasta que se aplaque la ira de tu hermano contra ti, y se olvide de lo que le has hecho: yo enviaré entonces, y te traeré de allá: ¿por qué seré privada de vosotros ambos en un día?
Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”
Después Rebeca le dijo a Isaac: ―Me tienen enferma y cansada estas mujeres hititas. Preferiría morirme antes de ver a Jacob casado con alguna de esas hititas que viven aquí.
Y dijo Rebeca á Isaac: Fastidio tengo de mi vida, á causa de las hijas de Heth. Si Jacob toma mujer de las hijas de Heth, como éstas, de las hijas de esta tierra, ¿para qué quiero la vida?
And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?”
