Hubo otra época de hambre en la región, además de la primera que hubo en tiempos de Abraham. Por eso, Isaac se fue a Gerar, donde estaba Abimelec, rey de los filisteos.

Allí Yahvé se le apareció y le dijo: “No bajes a Egipto. Quédate a vivir en la tierra que yo te indicaré.

And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.
Multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo, y le daré todas estas tierras. Por medio de tu descendencia serán bendecidas todas las naciones de la tierra,
Y multiplicaré tu simiente como las estrellas del cielo, y daré á tu simiente todas estas tierras; y todas las gentes de la tierra serán benditas en tu simiente:
And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

porque Abraham me obedeció y cumplió mis preceptos, mis mandamientos, mis normas y mis leyes”.
Por cuanto oyó Abraham mi voz, y guardó mi precepto, mis mandamientos, mis estatutos y mis leyes.

Así que Isaac se quedó a vivir en Gerar.

Cuando los hombres del lugar le preguntaban por su esposa, él respondía: “Es mi hermana”. Tenía miedo de decir que era su esposa, pues pensaba: “Los hombres de este lugar me matarán por causa de Rebeca, porque es muy hermosa”.
Y los hombres de aquel lugar le preguntaron acerca de su mujer; y él respondió: Es mi hermana; porque tuvo miedo de decir: Es mi mujer; que tal vez, dijo, los hombres del lugar me matarían por causa de Rebeca; porque era de hermoso aspecto.
And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.
The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”
Isaac ya llevaba mucho tiempo allí cuando Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, se asomó a una ventana y lo vio acariciando a su esposa Rebeca.
Y sucedió que, después que él estuvo allí muchos días, Abimelech, rey de los Filisteos, mirando por una ventana, vió á Isaac que jugaba con Rebeca su mujer.
And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

Abimelec mandó llamar a Isaac y le dijo: “¡Así que ella es tu esposa! ¿Por qué dijiste que era tu hermana?” Isaac le respondió: “Porque pensé que me matarían por su culpa”.
Y llamó Abimelech á Isaac, y dijo: He aquí ella es de cierto tu mujer: ¿cómo, pues, dijiste: Es mi hermana? E Isaac le respondió: Porque dije: Quizá moriré por causa de ella.
And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.
Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”
Abimelec le reclamó: “¿Qué es lo que nos has hecho? Cualquiera del pueblo podría haberse acostado con tu esposa, ¡y tú nos habrías hecho culpables de un gran pecado!”
Y Abimelech dijo: ¿Por qué nos has hecho esto? Por poco hubiera dormido alguno del pueblo con tu mujer, y hubieras traído sobre nosotros el pecado.
And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.
Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”
Entonces Abimelec le dio esta orden a todo el pueblo: “Cualquiera que toque a este hombre o a su esposa, será condenado a muerte”.
Entonces Abimelech mandó á todo el pueblo, diciendo: El que tocare á este hombre ó á su mujer, de cierto morirá.
And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

Isaac sembró en aquella región, y ese mismo año cosechó cien veces lo que había sembrado, porque Yahvé lo bendijo.
Y sembró Isaac en aquella tierra, y halló aquel año ciento por uno: y bendíjole Jehová.

Su riqueza fue aumentando, hasta que llegó a ser un hombre muy rico y poderoso.

Llegó a tener tantas ovejas y vacas, y tantos sirvientes, que los filisteos le tuvieron envidia.
Y tuvo hato de ovejas, y hato de vacas, y grande apero; y los Filisteos le tuvieron envidia.
For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

Por eso, taparon con tierra todos los pozos que los sirvientes de su padre habían cavado en tiempos de Abraham.

Incluso Abimelec le dijo a Isaac: “Vete de aquí, porque te has vuelto mucho más poderoso que nosotros”.
Y dijo Abimelech á Isaac: Apártate de nosotros, porque mucho más poderoso que nosotros te has hecho.
And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
Así que Isaac se fue de allí, acampó en el valle de Gerar y se quedó a vivir en ese lugar.
E Isaac se fué de allí; y asentó sus tiendas en el valle de Gerar, y habitó allí.
And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

Isaac volvió a abrir los pozos de agua que habían sido cavados en tiempos de su padre Abraham, y que los filisteos habían tapado después de su muerte. A estos pozos les puso los mismos nombres que su padre les había dado.
Y volvió á abrir Isaac los pozos de agua que habían abierto en los días de Abraham su padre, y que los Filisteos habían cegado, muerto Abraham; y llamólos por los nombres que su padre los había llamado.
And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

Un día, los sirvientes de Isaac estaban cavando en el valle y encontraron un pozo de agua fresca.
Y los siervos de Isaac cavaron en el valle, y hallaron allí un pozo de aguas vivas.

Pero los pastores de Gerar se pelearon con los pastores de Isaac, reclamando: “¡Esta agua es nuestra!” Por eso Isaac llamó a ese pozo Esek, porque se habían peleado con él.

And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.

Luego cavaron otro pozo, y también se pelearon por él; así que lo llamó Sitná.
Y abrieron otro pozo, y también riñeron sobre él: y llamó su nombre Sitnah.
And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.

Se alejó de allí y cavó otro pozo, y por ese no se pelearon. A ese lo llamó Rejobot, pues dijo: “Ahora Yahvé nos ha dado espacio, y prosperaremos en esta tierra”.
Y apartóse de allí, y abrió otro pozo, y no riñeron sobre él: y llamó su nombre Rehoboth, y dijo: Porque ahora nos ha hecho ensanchar Jehová, y fructificaremos en la tierra.
And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. So he called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now the LORD has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”
De allí, Isaac subió a Beerseba.

Esa misma noche Yahvé se le apareció y le dijo: “Yo soy el Dios de tu padre Abraham. No tengas miedo, porque yo estoy contigo. Por amor a mi siervo Abraham, te bendeciré y multiplicaré tu descendencia”.
Y apareciósele Jehová aquella noche, y dijo: Yo soy el Dios de Abraham tu padre; no temas, que yo soy contigo, y yo te bendeciré, y multiplicaré tu simiente por amor de Abraham mi siervo.
And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.
The LORD appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham’s sake.”
Isaac construyó allí un altar e invocó el nombre de Yahvé. Allí armó su campamento, y sus sirvientes cavaron un pozo.
Y edificó allí un altar, é invocó el nombre de Jehová, y tendió allí su tienda: y abrieron allí los siervos de Isaac un pozo.
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants digged a well.

Abimelec fue a visitarlo desde Gerar, acompañado por su amigo Ajuzat y por Ficol, el jefe de su ejército.
Y Abimelech vino á él desde Gerar, y Ahuzzath, amigo suyo, y Phicol, capitán de su ejército.
Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.

Isaac les preguntó: “¿A qué vienen, si ustedes me odian y me echaron de su tierra?”
Y díjoles Isaac: ¿Por qué venís á mí, pues que me habéis aborrecido, y me echasteis de entre vosotros?
And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?
Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”
Ellos le respondieron: “Hemos visto claramente que Yahvé está contigo. Por eso pensamos que debería haber un acuerdo bajo juramento entre nosotros y tú. Queremos hacer un pacto contigo:
Y ellos respondieron: Hemos visto que Jehová es contigo; y dijimos: Haya ahora juramento entre nosotros, entre nosotros y ti, y haremos alianza contigo:
And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
They said, “We saw plainly that the LORD was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let’s make a covenant with you,
júranos que no nos harás ningún daño, así como nosotros no te hemos tocado, sino que te hemos tratado bien y te dejamos ir en paz. ¡Tú eres el bendito de Yahvé!”
Que no nos hagas mal, como nosotros no te hemos tocado, y como solamente te hemos hecho bien, y te enviamos en paz: tú ahora, bendito de Jehová.
That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.
that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of the LORD.”
Isaac les preparó un banquete, y comieron y bebieron.
Entonces él les hizo banquete, y comieron y bebieron.
And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.

A la mañana siguiente se levantaron temprano y se hicieron un juramento mutuo. Luego Isaac los despidió, y ellos se fueron en paz.
Y se levantaron de madrugada, y juraron el uno al otro; é Isaac los despidió, y ellos se partieron de él en paz.
And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

Ese mismo día llegaron los sirvientes de Isaac y le informaron acerca del pozo que habían estado cavando. “¡Encontramos agua!”, le dijeron.
Y en aquel día sucedió que vinieron los criados de Isaac, y diéronle nuevas acerca del pozo que habían abierto, y le dijeron: Agua hemos hallado.
And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.

Isaac llamó a ese pozo Sibá. Por eso, hasta el día de hoy, la ciudad se llama Beerseba.
Y llamólo Seba: por cuya causa el nombre de aquella ciudad es Beer-seba hasta este día.
And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beer-sheba unto this day.

Cuando Esaú tenía cuarenta años, se casó con Judit, hija de Beerí el hitita, y con Basemat, hija de Elón el hitita.
Y cuando Esaú fué de cuarenta años, tomó por mujer á Judith hija de Beeri Hetheo, y á Basemat hija de Elón Hetheo:
And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:

Estas dos mujeres les causaron mucha amargura a Isaac y a Rebeca.
Y fueron amargura de espíritu á Isaac y á Rebeca.
Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
They grieved Isaac’s and Rebekah’s spirits.
