1Da brach Abraham von dort auf ins Südland, und er wohnte zwischen Kadesch und {zwischen} Sur und hielt sich als Fremdling (Schutzbürger) in Gerar auf.
2Und Abraham sagte über Sara, seine Frau: Sie ist meine Schwester. Da sandte Abimelech, der Stadtfürst von Gerar, und holte Sara zu sich.
3Da kam Gott zu Abimelech im Traum bei Nacht und sprach zu ihm: Pass auf! Du stirbst wegen der Frau, die du dir genommen hast. Denn sie ist verheiratet.
4Da näherte sich Abimelech ihr nicht. Und er sprach: Mein Herr, willst du ein Volk, noch dazu ein rechtschaffenes (gerechtes), töten?
5Hat er nicht zu mir gesagt: Sie ist meine Schwester? Und sie, auch sie sprach: Er ist mein Bruder. Mit arglosem Herzen und schuldloser Hand habe ich so gehandelt.
6Da sprach Gott zu ihm im Traum: Auch ich habe erkannt, dass du mit arglosem Herzen so gehandelt hast, und ich will dich sogar zurückhalten, an mir zu sündigen. Darum habe ich dir nicht erlaubt, sie anzutasten (zu berühren).
7Und nun: führe (bringe) zurück die Frau dieses Mannes, denn er ist ein Prophet. Und er wird für dich beten, und du sollst leben. Führst (bringst ) du sie aber nicht zurück, erkenne, dass du ganz gewiss stirbst und alles, was dein ist.
8Da stand Abimelech früh am Morgen auf und rief alle seine Knechte (Diener, Sklaven) und erzählte ihnen all diese Worte . Und die Männer erschreckten sehr.
9Da rief Abimelech Abraham und sprach zu ihm: Warum hast du uns das angetan? Und was habe ich dir Böses getan (gesündigt), dass du über mich und meine Sippe eine so große Verfehlung (Sünde) gebracht hast? Taten, die nicht getan werden dürfen, hast du an mir getan.
10Und Abimelech sprach zu Abraham: Was hast du gesehen, dass du diese Sache getan hast?
11Und Abraham sagte: Weil ich mir sagte: Gewiss gibt es keine Gottesfurcht (Furcht Gottes) an diesem Ort. Da werden sie mich töten wegen meiner Frau.
12Und auch in Wahrheit ist sie meine Schwester. Sie ist die Tochter meines Vaters, jedoch nicht die Tochter meiner Mutter. Und sie wurde meine Frau.
13Und es geschah, wie (weil) Gott mich herumirren ließ aus dem Haus meines Vaters, so sprach ich zu ihr: Das sei deine Liebe, die du mir tust: an jedem Ort, zu dem wir kommen, sag über mich: Er ist mein Bruder.
14Da nahm Abimelech Kleinvieh und Rinder und Sklaven (Knechte, Diener) und Sklavinnen und gab sie Abraham. Und er führte (brachte) zu ihm Sara, seine Frau, zurück.
15Da sprach Abimelech: Sieh, mein Land liegt offen vor dir. Wo es dir gut scheint, lass dich nieder.
16Und zu Sara sprach er: Sieh, ich gab 1000 Schekel Silber deinem Bruder. Sieh, das soll für dich ein Sühnegeschenk sein für alle, die bei dir sind. Und bei allen bist du dadurch gerechtfertigt worden.
17Da betete Abraham für Abimelech. Da heilte Gott Abimelech und seine Frau und seine Sklavinnen, und sie gebaren.
18Denn fest verschlossen hatte JHWH den Zugang zu jedem Mutterleib (jeder Gebärmutter) des Hauses Abimelechs wegen Saras, der Frau Abrahams.

1DE allí partió Abraham á la tierra del Mediodía, y asentó entre Cades y Shur, y habitó como forastero en Gerar.
2Y dijo Abraham de Sara su mujer: Mi hermana es. Y Abimelech, rey de Gerar, envió y tomó á Sara.
3Empero Dios vino á Abimelech en sueños de noche, y le dijo: He aquí muerto eres á causa de la mujer que has tomado, la cual es casada con marido.
4Mas Abimelech no había llegado á ella, y dijo: Señor, ¿matarás también la gente justa?
5¿No me dijo él: Mi hermana es; y ella también dijo: Es mi hermano? Con sencillez de mi corazón, y con limpieza de mis manos he hecho esto.
6Y díjole Dios en sueños: Yo también sé que con integridad de tu corazón has hecho esto; y yo también te detuve de pecar contra mí, y así no te permití que la tocases.
7Ahora, pues, vuelve la mujer á su marido; porque es profeta, y orará por ti, y vivirás. Y si tú no la volvieres, sabe que de cierto morirás, con todo lo que fuere tuyo.
8Entonces Abimelech se levantó de mañana, y llamó á todos sus siervos, y dijo todas estas palabras en los oídos de ellos; y temieron los hombres en gran manera.
9Después llamó Abimelech á Abraham, y le dijo: ¿Qué nos has hecho? ¿y en qué pequé yo contra ti, que has atraído sobre mí y sobre mi reino tan gran pecado? lo que no debiste hacer has hecho conmigo.
10Y dijo más Abimelech á Abraham: ¿Qué viste para que hicieses esto?
11Y Abraham respondió: Porque dije para mí: Cierto no hay temor de Dios en este lugar, y me matarán por causa de mi mujer.
12Y á la verdad también es mi hermana, hija de mi padre, mas no hija de mi madre, y toméla por mujer.
13Y fué que, cuando Dios me hizo salir errante de la casa de mi padre, yo le dije: Esta es la merced que tú me harás, que en todos los lugares donde llegáremos, digas de mí: Mi hermano es.
14Entonces Abimelech tomó ovejas y vacas, y siervos y siervas, y diólo á Abraham, y devolvióle á Sara su mujer.
15Y dijo Abimelech: He aquí mi tierra está delante de ti, habita donde bien te pareciere.
16Y á Sara dijo: He aquí he dado mil monedas de plata á tu hermano; mira que él te es por velo de ojos para todos los que están contigo, y para con todos: así fué reprendida.
17Entonces Abraham oró á Dios; y Dios sanó á Abimelech y á su mujer, y á sus siervas, y parieron.
18Porque había del todo cerrado Jehová toda matriz de la casa de Abimelech, á causa de Sara mujer de Abraham.

1And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
2And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.
4But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
12And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.
World English Bible
1Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.
2Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.”
4Now Abimelech had not come near her. He said, “Lord, will you kill even a righteous nation?
5Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister’? She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.”
6God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.
7Now therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.”
8Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.
9Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!”
10Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”
11Abraham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’
12Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13When God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to her, ‘This is your kindness which you shall show to me. Everywhere that we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
14Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.
15Abimelech said, “Behold, my land is before you. Dwell where it pleases you.”
16To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated.”
17Abraham prayed to God. So God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.
18For the LORD had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
