Fue en esa época que un hombre de la tribu de Leví se casó con una mujer que también era levita.

UN varón de la familia de Leví fué, y tomó por mujer una hija de Leví:

And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.

Ella quedó embarazada y tuvo un hijo. Y viendo que era un bebé precioso, lo escondió durante tres meses.

La cual concibió, y parió un hijo: y viéndolo que era hermoso, túvole escondido tres meses.

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

The woman conceived and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.

Pero cuando ya no pudo esconderlo más, cogió una cesta de papiro y la cubrió con alquitrán. Luego puso a su bebé en la cesta y lo colocó entre los juncos, a lo largo de la orilla del Nilo.

Pero no pudiendo ocultarle más tiempo, tomó una arquilla de juncos, y calafateóla con pez y betún, y colocó en ella al niño, y púsolo en un carrizal á la orilla del río:

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.

When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

Y la hermana del niño esperaba a cierta distancia, vigilándolo.

Y paróse una hermana suya á lo lejos, para ver lo que le acontecería.

And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

Entonces la hija del Faraón llegó para bañarse en el Nilo. Sus criadas caminaban por la orilla del río, y cuando ella vio la cesta entre los juncos, envió a su criada a buscarla y traérsela.

Y la hija de Faraón descendió á lavarse al río, y paseándose sus doncellas por la ribera del río, vió ella la arquilla en el carrizal, y envió una criada suya á que la tomase.

And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.

Al abrirla, vio al niño que lloraba y sintió pesar por él. “Este debe ser uno de los niños hebreos”, dijo.

Y como la abrió, vió al niño; y he aquí que el niño lloraba. Y teniendo compasión de él, dijo: De los niños de los Hebreos es éste.

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Entoncesla hermana del niño le preguntó a la hija del Faraón: “¿Desea que vaya a buscar a una de las mujeres hebreas para que lo cuide por usted?”

Entonces su hermana dijo á la hija de Faraón: ¿Iré á llamarte un ama de las Hebreas, para que te críe este niño?

Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

“Sí, ve y hazlo”, respondió ella. Así que la niña fue y llamó a la madre del bebé para que viniera.

Y la hija de Faraón respondió: Ve. Entonces fué la doncella, y llamó á la madre del niño;

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” The young woman went and called the child’s mother.

“Toma a este niño y amamántalo por mí”, le dijo la hija del Faraóna la madre del niño. “Yo misma te pagaré”. Así que su madre se lo llevó a casa y lo cuidó.

A la cual dijo la hija de Faraón: Lleva este niño, y críamelo, y yo te lo pagaré. Y la mujer tomó al niño, y criólo.

And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” The woman took the child, and nursed him.

Cuando el niño creció, se lo llevó a la hija del Faraón, quien lo adoptó como su hijo. Ella lo llamó Moisés, porque dijo: “Yo lo saqué del agua”.

Y como creció el niño, ella lo trajo á la hija de Faraón, la cual lo prohijó, y púsole por nombre Moisés, diciendo: Porque de las aguas lo saqué.

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

Más tarde, cuando Moisés había crecido, fue a visitar a su pueblo, los hebreos. Los vio haciendo trabajos forzados. También vio a un egipcio golpeando a un hebreo, uno de su propio pueblo.

Y en aquellos días acaeció que, crecido ya Moisés, salió á sus hermanos, y vió sus cargas: y observó á un Egipcio que hería á uno de los Hebreos, sus hermanos.

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

Entonces miró a su alrededor para asegurarse de que nadie estuviera mirando, yluego mató al egipcio y enterró su cuerpo en la arena.

Y miró á todas partes, y viendo que no parecía nadie, mató al Egipcio, y escondiólo en la arena.

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

Al día siguiente, regresó y vio a dos hebreos peleando entre sí. Entonces le dijo al culpable: “¿Por qué golpeas a uno de los tuyos?”

Y salió al día siguiente, y viendo á dos Hebreos que reñían, dijo al que hacía la injuria: ¿Por qué hieres á tu prójimo?

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

“¿Quién te ha encargado como juez sobre nosotros?” , respondió el hombre. “¿Acaso vas a matarme como lo hiciste con el egipcio?” Entonces Moisés se asustó por esto y pensó para sí: “¡La gente sabe lo que he hecho!”

Y él respondió: ¿Quién te ha puesto á ti por príncipe y juez sobre nosotros? ¿piensas matarme como mataste al Egipcio? Entonces Moisés tuvo miedo, y dijo: Ciertamente esta cosa es descubierta.

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

Cuando el Faraón se enteró, trató de mandar a matar a Moisés, pero Moisés huyó del Faraón y se fue a vivir a Madián. Un día, mientras estaba sentado junto a un pozo,

Y oyendo Faraón este negocio, procuró matar á Moisés: mas Moisés huyó de delante de Faraón, y habitó en la tierra de Madián; y sentóse junto á un pozo.

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

las siete hijas del sacerdote de Madiánvinieron a buscar agua para llenar los bebederos a fin de que el rebaño de su padre pudiera beber.

Tenía el sacerdote de Madián siete hijas, las cuales vinieron á sacar agua, para llenar las pilas y dar de beber á las ovejas de su padre.

Entonces llegaron unos pastores y las echaron de allí, pero Moisés intervino y las puso a salvo, y le dio de beber a su rebaño.

Cuando llegaron a casa, su padre Reuel les preguntó: “¿Cómo es que hoy han regresado tan rápido?”

Y volviendo ellas á Ragüel su padre, díjoles él: ¿Por qué habéis hoy venido tan presto?

And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

“Un egipcio nos rescató de unos pastores que nos atacaron”, respondieron. “Incluso nos trajo agua para que el rebaño pudiera beber”.

Y ellas respondieron: Un varón Egipcio nos defendió de mano de los pastores, y también nos sacó el agua, y abrevó las ovejas.

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.”

“¿Y dónde está?” le preguntó Reuel a su hija. “No lo dejaste allí, ¿verdad? ¡Ve e invítalo a comer con nosotros!”

Y dijo á sus hijas: ¿Y dónde está? ¿por qué habéis dejado ese hombre? llamadle para que coma pan.

And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”

Y Moisés aceptó quedarse con el hombre, quien arregló que su hija Séfora se casara con Moisés.

Y Moisés acordó en morar con aquel varón; y él dió á Moisés á su hija Séphora:

And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

Ella tuvo un hijo y Moisés le puso el nombre de Gersón, porque dijo: “Soy un exiliado que vive en un país extranjero”.

La cual le parió un hijo, y él le puso por nombre Gersom: porque dijo: Peregrino soy en tierra ajena.

And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land.”

Años más tarde, el rey de Egipto murió. Pero los israelitas seguían quejándose por su duro trabajo. Su clamor pidiendo ayuda en medio de sus dificultades llegó hasta Dios.

Y aconteció que después de muchos días murió el rey de Egipto, y los hijos de Israel suspiraron á causa de la servidumbre, y clamaron: y subió á Dios el clamor de ellos con motivo de su servidumbre.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

In the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.

Dios escuchó sus gemidos y se acordó de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob.

Y oyó Dios el gemido de ellos, y acordóse de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

Además Dios miraba con compasión a los israelitas, y se preocupaba por ellos.
