Um homem e uma mulher da tribo de Levi se casaram,

UN varón de la familia de Leví fué, y tomó por mujer una hija de Leví:

And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

ela engravidou e deu à luz um filho. Vendo que o menino era bonito, escondeu-o por três meses.

La cual concibió, y parió un hijo: y viéndolo que era hermoso, túvole escondido tres meses.

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

Como já não era mais possível manter o bebê escondido, ela pegou um cesto feito de junco e o vedou com betume e pôs nele o menino. Depois deixou o cesto entre os juncos à beira do rio.

Pero no pudiendo ocultarle más tiempo, tomó una arquilla de juncos, y calafateóla con pez y betún, y colocó en ella al niño, y púsolo en un carrizal á la orilla del río:

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.

When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

A irmã do menino ficou vigiando de longe, para ver o que aconteceria com ele.

Y paróse una hermana suya á lo lejos, para ver lo que le acontecería.

And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

A filha do faraó desceu ao Nilo para tomar banho, acompanhada das suas servas, que ficaram passeando pela margem do rio. A princesa viu um cesto entre os juncos e mandou sua serva buscá-lo.

Y la hija de Faraón descendió á lavarse al río, y paseándose sus doncellas por la ribera del río, vió ella la arquilla en el carrizal, y envió una criada suya á que la tomase.

And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.

Quando abriu o cesto, viu o menino que estava chorando. Ela teve compaixão dele e disse: “Deve ser um menino hebreu!”

Y como la abrió, vió al niño; y he aquí que el niño lloraba. Y teniendo compasión de él, dijo: De los niños de los Hebreos es éste.

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Então a irmã do menino aproximou-se e perguntou à filha do faraó: “A senhora quer que eu vá e arranje uma ama hebreia para criar o bebê?”

Entonces su hermana dijo á la hija de Faraón: ¿Iré á llamarte un ama de las Hebreas, para que te críe este niño?

Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

“Sim, faça isso”, respondeu a filha do faraó. E a moça foi chamar a mãe do menino.

Y la hija de Faraón respondió: Ve. Entonces fué la doncella, y llamó á la madre del niño;

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

Então a filha do faraó disse a ela: “Leve este menino e crie-o para mim. Pagarei pelo seu trabalho”. A mulher levou o menino e o criou.

A la cual dijo la hija de Faraón: Lleva este niño, y críamelo, y yo te lo pagaré. Y la mujer tomó al niño, y criólo.

And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” The woman took the child, and nursed him.

Quando o menino cresceu, a mãe o levou à filha do faraó, que o adotou. Assim ele passou a ser o filho da filha do faraó. Ela o chamou de Moisés, dizendo: “Porque eu o tirei das águas”.

Y como creció el niño, ella lo trajo á la hija de Faraón, la cual lo prohijó, y púsole por nombre Moisés, diciendo: Porque de las aguas lo saqué.

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

Anos mais tarde, quando Moisés já era adulto, foi visitar seus irmãos hebreus e viu o quanto estavam sofrendo. Ele viu um egípcio espancar um hebreu, que pertencia ao seu povo.

Y en aquellos días acaeció que, crecido ya Moisés, salió á sus hermanos, y vió sus cargas: y observó á un Egipcio que hería á uno de los Hebreos, sus hermanos.

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

Moisés olhou para um lado e para o outro e, como não viu ninguém, matou o egípcio e o escondeu na areia.

Y miró á todas partes, y viendo que no parecía nadie, mató al Egipcio, y escondiólo en la arena.

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

No dia seguinte, saiu de novo e viu que dois hebreus estavam brigando. Então perguntou ao culpado: “Por que você está espancando o seu irmão?”

Y salió al día siguiente, y viendo á dos Hebreos que reñían, dijo al que hacía la injuria: ¿Por qué hieres á tu prójimo?

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

O homem respondeu: “Quem o colocou como príncipe e juiz sobre nós? Quer matar-me como matou o egípcio?” Moisés ficou com medo e pensou: “Com certeza já descobriram!”

Y él respondió: ¿Quién te ha puesto á ti por príncipe y juez sobre nosotros? ¿piensas matarme como mataste al Egipcio? Entonces Moisés tuvo miedo, y dijo: Ciertamente esta cosa es descubierta.

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

O faraó ficou sabendo desse caso e decretou a morte de Moisés. Mas Moisés fugiu do faraó e foi para a terra de Midiã. Quando chegou lá, sentou na beira de um poço.

Y oyendo Faraón este negocio, procuró matar á Moisés: mas Moisés huyó de delante de Faraón, y habitó en la tierra de Madián; y sentóse junto á un pozo.

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

O sacerdote de Midiã tinha sete filhas. Elas vieram tirar água e encheram os bebedouros para dar de beber aos rebanhos de seu pai.

Tenía el sacerdote de Madián siete hijas, las cuales vinieron á sacar agua, para llenar las pilas y dar de beber á las ovejas de su padre.

Então vieram os pastores daquela região e expulsaram as moças dali. Moisés se apressou em defender as jovens e deu água ao rebanho delas.

Quando voltaram para casa, seu pai Reuel perguntou: “Por que vocês voltaram tão cedo hoje?”

And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

Elas responderam: “Um egípcio nos defendeu dos pastores. Além disso, tirou água e deu de beber ao rebanho”.

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

“E onde ele está?”, perguntou o pai a elas. “Por que o deixaram lá? Convidem o homem para jantar conosco”.

Y dijo á sus hijas: ¿Y dónde está? ¿por qué habéis dejado ese hombre? llamadle para que coma pan.

And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

Moisés aceitou morar na casa de Reuel; e ele deu a Moisés sua filha Zípora como esposa.

Y Moisés acordó en morar con aquel varón; y él dió á Moisés á su hija Séphora:

And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

Eles tiveram um filho, a quem ele chamou de Gérson, dizendo: “Sou forasteiro em terra estrangeira”.

And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

Depois de muito tempo, morreu o rei do Egito. Os israelitas estavam gemendo debaixo da terrível escravidão e clamaram a Deus.

Y aconteció que después de muchos días murió el rey de Egipto, y los hijos de Israel suspiraron á causa de la servidumbre, y clamaron: y subió á Dios el clamor de ellos con motivo de su servidumbre.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

Deus ouviu o seu gemido e atentou para a aliança que tinha feito com Abraão, com Isaque e com Jacó.

Y oyó Dios el gemido de ellos, y acordóse de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

E Deus deu atenção aos sofrimentos dos israelitas.
