Dies sind die Namen der Söhne Israels, die nach Ägypten gekommen waren – mit Jakob waren sie gekommen, ein jeder mit seiner Familie –:

ESTOS son los nombres de los hijos de Israel, que entraron en Egipto con Jacob; cada uno entró con su familia.

Die Gesamtzahl der leiblichen Nachkommen Jakobs betrug siebzig Seelen; Joseph aber hatte sich (bereits) in Ägypten befunden.

vermehrten sich die Israeliten gewaltig und wurden über alle Maßen zahlreich und stark, so daß das Land voll von ihnen wurde.

Da kam ein neuer König in Ägypten zur Regierung, der Joseph nicht gekannt hatte.

So setzten sie denn Fronvögte über das Volk, um es mit den Fronarbeiten, die sie ihm auferlegten, zu bedrücken; und es mußte für den Pharao Vorratsstädte bauen, nämlich Pithom und Ramses.

Aber je mehr man das Volk bedrückte, desto zahlreicher wurde es und desto mehr breitete es sich aus, so daß die Ägypter ein Grauen vor den Israeliten empfanden.

Daher zwangen die Ägypter die Israeliten gewaltsam zum Knechtsdienst

und verleideten ihnen das Leben durch harte Fronarbeit in Lehm- und Ziegelsteinen und durch allerlei Feldarbeit, lauter Dienstleistungen, die sie zwangsweise von ihnen verrichten ließen.

Y amargaron su vida con dura servidumbre, en hacer barro y ladrillo, y en toda labor del campo, y en todo su servicio, al cual los obligaban con rigorismo.

And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.

Da erteilte der König von Ägypten den hebräischen Hebammen, von denen die eine Siphra, die andere Pua hieß, folgenden Befehl:

»Wenn ihr den Hebräerinnen bei der Geburt Hilfe leistet, so gebt bei der Entbindung wohl acht: wenn das Kind ein Knabe ist, so tötet ihn! ist es aber ein Mädchen, so mag es am Leben bleiben!«

Cuando parteareis á las Hebreas, y mirareis los asientos, si fuere hijo, matadlo; y si fuere hija, entonces viva.

And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”

Aber die Hebammen waren gottesfürchtig und befolgten den Befehl des Königs von Ägypten nicht, sondern ließen die Knaben am Leben.

Mas las parteras temieron á Dios, y no hicieron como les mandó el rey de Egipto, sino que reservaban la vida á los niños.

But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Da rief der König von Ägypten die Hebammen zu sich und fragte sie: »Warum verfahrt ihr so und laßt die Knaben am Leben?«

Y el rey de Egipto hizo llamar á las parteras, y díjoles: Por qué habéis hecho esto, que habéis reservado la vida á los niños?

And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

Die Hebammen antworteten dem Pharao: »Ja, die hebräischen Frauen sind nicht so (schwächlich) wie die ägyptischen, sondern haben eine kräftige Natur; ehe noch die Hebamme zu ihnen kommt, haben sie schon geboren.«

Y las parteras respondieron á Faraón: Porque las mujeres Hebreas no son como las Egipcias: porque son robustas, y paren antes que la partera venga á ellas.

And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”

Gott aber ließ es den Hebammen gut ergehen. So vermehrte sich denn das Volk stark und wurde sehr zahlreich;

Y Dios hizo bien á las parteras: y el pueblo se multiplicó, y se corroboraron en gran manera.

Da befahl der Pharao seinem ganzen Volke: »Jeden neugeborenen Knaben (der Hebräer) werft in den Nil, alle Mädchen aber laßt am Leben!«

Entonces Faraón mandó á todo su pueblo, diciendo: Echad en el río todo hijo que naciere, y á toda hija reservad la vida.

And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
