A ese lugar, Moisés lo llamó Masá, que significa tentación, porque allí los israelitas tentaron al Señor, diciendo: «¿Está el Señor entre nosotros, o no?». También lo llamó Meribá, que significa queja, pues allí el pueblo de Israel se quejó contra Dios.
Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Massah y Meribah, por la rencilla de los hijos de Israel, y porque tentaron á Jehová, diciendo: ¿Está, pues, Jehová entre nosotros, ó no?
