1In derselben Nacht konnte der König nicht schlafen, und er ließ das Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten, die Chronik, herbringen; daraus wurde dem Könige vorgelesen.
2Da fand sich, daß darin geschrieben war, wie Mardochai angezeigt habe, daß Bigtana und Teres, die beiden Kämmerer des Königs, die an der Schwelle hüteten, darnach getrachtet hatten, Hand an den König Ahasveros zu legen.
3Und der König sprach: Was für Ehre und Würde haben wir dafür Mardochai zuteilwerden lassen? Da sprachen die Knappen des Königs, die ihm dienten: Man hat ihm gar nichts gegeben!
4Und der König fragte: Wer ist im Hofe? Nun war Haman gerade in den äußern Hof des königlichen Hauses gekommen, um dem König zu sagen, er solle Mardochai an den Galgen hängen lassen, den er für ihn bereitet hatte.
5Da sprachen des Königs Knappen zu ihm: Siehe, Haman steht im Hof! Der König sprach: Er soll hereinkommen!
6Als nun Haman hereinkam, sprach der König zu ihm: Was soll man dem Manne tun, den der König gern ehren wollte? Haman aber dachte in seinem Herzen: Wem anders sollte der König Ehre erweisen wollen als mir?
7Und Haman sprach zum König: Für den Mann, welchen der König gern ehren wollte,
8soll man ein königliches Kleid, welches der König selbst getragen hat, herbringen und ein Pferd, darauf der König reitet und auf dessen Kopf eine königliche Krone gesetzt worden ist.
9Und man soll das Kleid und das Pferd den Händen eines der vornehmsten Fürsten des Königs übergeben, damit man den Mann bekleide, welchen der König gern ehren wollte, und ihn auf dem Pferde in den Gassen der Stadt umherführen und vor ihm her ausrufen lassen: So tut man dem Manne, den der König gern ehren will!
10Da sprach der König zu Haman: Eile, nimm das Kleid und das Pferd, wie du gesagt hast, und tue also mit Mardochai, dem Juden, der vor dem Königstor sitzt; es soll nichts fehlen von allem, was du gesagt hast!
11Da nahm Haman das Kleid und das Pferd und bekleidete Mardochai und führte ihn auf die Gassen der Stadt und rief vor ihm her: So tut man dem Manne, den der König gern ehren will!
12Darauf kehrte Mardochai zum Königstor zurück; Haman aber eilte traurig und mit verhülltem Haupte nach Hause.
13Und Haman erzählte seinem Weibe Seres und allen seinen Freunden alles, was ihm begegnet war. Da sprachen seine Weisen und sein Weib Seres zu ihm: Wenn Mardochai, vor dem du zu fallen angefangen hast, von dem Samen der Juden ist, so vermagst du nichts wider ihn, sondern du wirst gänzlich vor ihm fallen!
14Während sie aber noch mit ihm redeten, kamen die Kämmerer des Königs und beeilten sich, Haman zu dem Mahle zu bringen, welches Esther zugerichtet hatte.

1AQUELLA noche se le fué el sueño al rey, y dijo que le trajesen el libro de las memorias de las cosas de los tiempos: y leyéronlas delante del rey.
2Y hallóse escrito que Mardochêo había denunciado de Bigthan y de Teres, dos eunucos del rey, de la guarda de la puerta, que habían procurado meter mano en el rey Assuero.
3Y dijo el rey: ¿Qué honra ó que distinción se hizo á Mardochêo por esto? Y respondieron los servidores del rey, sus oficiales: Nada se ha hecho con él.
4Entonces dijo el rey: ¿Quién está en el patio? Y Amán había venido al patio de afuera de la casa del rey, para decir al rey que hiciese colgar á Mardochêo en la horca que él le tenía preparada.
5Y los servidores del rey le respondieron: He aquí Amán está en el patio. Y el rey dijo: Entre.
6Entró pues Amán, y el rey le dijo: ¿Qué se hará al hombre cuya honra desea el rey? Y dijo Amán en su corazón: ¿A quién deseará el rey hacer honra más que á mí?
7Y respondió Amán al rey: Al varón cuya honra desea el rey,
8Traigan el vestido real de que el rey se viste, y el caballo en que el rey cabalga, y la corona real que está puesta en su cabeza;
9Y den el vestido y el caballo en mano de alguno de los príncipes más nobles del rey, y vistan á aquel varón cuya honra desea el rey, y llévenlo en el caballo por la plaza de la ciudad, y pregonen delante de él: Así se hará al varón cuya honra desea el rey.
10Entonces el rey dijo á Amán: Date priesa, toma el vestido y el caballo, como tú has dicho, y hazlo así con el judío Mardochêo, que se sienta á la puerta del rey; no omitas nada de todo lo que has dicho.
11Y Amán tomó el vestido y el caballo, y vistió á Mardochêo, y llevólo á caballo por la plaza de la ciudad, é hizo pregonar delante de él: Así se hará al varón cuya honra desea el rey.
12Después de esto Mardochêo se volvió á la puerta del rey, y Amán se fué corriendo á su casa, apesadumbrado y cubierta su cabeza.
13Contó luego Amán á Zeres su mujer, y á todos sus amigos, todo lo que le había acontecido: y dijéronle sus sabios, y Zeres su mujer: Si de la simiente de los Judíos es el Mardochêo, delante de quien has comenzado á caer, no lo vencerás; antes caerás por cierto delante de él.
14Aun estaban ellos hablando con él, cuando los eunucos del rey llegaron apresurados, para hacer venir á Amán al banquete que Esther había dispuesto.

1On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
2And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
3And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
4And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
7And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
8Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
9And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
10Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
11Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
12And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
13And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
14And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

1On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.
2It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.
3The king said, “What honor and dignity has been given to Mordecai for this?” Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5The king’s servants said to him, “Behold, Haman stands in the court.” The king said, “Let him come in.”
6So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”
7Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor,
8let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set.
9Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’”
10Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.”
11Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”
12Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.
13Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.”
14While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
