Deuteronomio 7

1Quand le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, t'aura fait entrer dans le pays où tu te rends pour en prendre possession, et qu'il aura chassé devant toi de nombreuses nations — les Hittites, les Guirgasiens, les Amoréens, les Cananéens, les Phéréziens, les Héviens et les Jébusiens — sept nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que toi ;
2et lorsque le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, te les aura livrées et que tu les auras battues, tu les voueras à une destruction totale. Tu ne concluras aucune alliance avec elles, et tu ne leur feras pas miséricorde.
3Tu ne t'allieras pas par mariage avec elles : tu ne donneras pas ta fille à leur fils, et tu ne prendras pas leur fille pour ton fils.
4Car cela détournerait tes fils de moi, et ils serviraient d'autres dieux. Alors la colère du SEIGNEUR s'enflammerait contre toi, et il te détruirait promptement.
5Mais voici comment tu agiras à leur égard : tu démoliras leurs autels, tu briseras leurs statues, tu abattras leurs poteaux sacrés, et tu brûleras au feu leurs images taillées.
6Car tu es un peuple saint pour le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu. Le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, t'a choisi pour que tu sois son peuple, son bien propre, parmi tous les peuples qui sont à la surface de la terre.
7Ce n'est pas parce que tu étais plus nombreux que tous les autres peuples que le SEIGNEUR s'est attaché à toi et t'a choisi, car tu étais le moindre de tous les peuples ;
8mais c'est parce que le SEIGNEUR t'aime, et parce qu'il veut garder le serment qu'il a fait à tes pères, que le SEIGNEUR t'a fait sortir d'une main puissante et t'a racheté de la maison de servitude, de la main du pharaon, roi d'Égypte.
9Sache donc que le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, est lui-même Dieu, le Dieu fidèle, qui garde l'alliance et l'amour fidèle jusqu'à mille générations envers ceux qui l'aiment et qui gardent ses commandements,
10et qui paie de retour directement ceux qui le haïssent, en les détruisant. Il ne tarde pas envers celui qui le hait, il le paie de retour en face.
11Tu veilleras donc à mettre en pratique les commandements, les prescriptions et les règles que je te donne aujourd'hui.
12Et voici ce qui arrivera : parce que tu écouteras ces règles, que tu les garderas et les mettras en pratique, le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, gardera envers toi l'alliance et l'amour fidèle qu'il a jurés à tes pères.
13Il t'aimera, te bénira et te multipliera. Il bénira aussi le fruit de tes entrailles et le fruit de ton sol, ton blé, ton vin nouveau et ton huile, l'accroissement de ton gros bétail et les petits de tes troupeaux, dans le pays qu'il a juré à tes pères de te donner.
14Tu seras béni plus que tous les peuples. Il n'y aura chez toi ni homme ni femme stérile, ni même parmi ton bétail.
15Le SEIGNEUR éloignera de toi toute maladie ; il ne t'infligera aucune de ces mauvaises épidémies d'Égypte que tu connais, mais il en frappera tous ceux qui te haïssent.
16Tu anéantiras tous les peuples que le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, te livrera. Tu n'auras aucune pitié pour eux, et tu ne serviras pas leurs dieux, car ce serait un piège pour toi.
17Si tu te dis en toi-même : « Ces nations sont plus nombreuses que moi, comment pourrai-je les chasser ? »
18tu n'en auras pas peur. Tu te souviendras bien de ce que le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, a fait au pharaon et à toute l'Égypte :
19les grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, les signes, les prodiges, la main puissante et le bras étendu par lesquels le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, t'a fait sortir. C'est ainsi que le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, agira envers tous les peuples dont tu as peur.
20De plus, le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, enverra des frelons contre eux, jusqu'à ce que ceux qui restent et se cachent périssent devant toi.
21Tu ne trembleras pas devant eux, car le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, est au milieu de toi, c'est un Dieu grand et redoutable.
22Le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, chassera ces nations devant toi peu à peu. Tu ne pourras pas les anéantir d'un seul coup, de peur que les bêtes sauvages ne se multiplient à tes dépens.
23Mais le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, te les livrera, et il les plongera dans une immense confusion, jusqu'à ce qu'elles soient détruites.
24Il livrera leurs rois entre tes mains, et tu effaceras leur nom de sous le ciel. Personne ne pourra te résister, jusqu'à ce que tu les aies détruites.
25Tu brûleras au feu les images taillées de leurs dieux. Tu ne convoiteras pas l'argent ni l'or qui les recouvrent, et tu ne les prendras pas pour toi, de peur de tomber dans un piège ; car c'est une abomination pour le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu.
26Tu n'introduiras pas une abomination dans ta maison, pour ne pas devenir, comme elle, une chose vouée à l'interdit. Tu l'auras en profonde aversion et en horreur absolue, car c'est une chose vouée à l'interdit.

1CUANDO Jehová tu Dios te hubiere introducido en la tierra en la cual tú has de entrar para poseerla, y hubiere echado de delante de ti muchas gentes, al Hetheo, al Gergeseo, y al Amorrheo, y al Cananeo, y al Pherezeo, y al Heveo, y al Jebuseo, siete naciones mayores y más fuertes que tú;
2Y Jehová tu Dios las hubiere entregado delante de ti, y las hirieres, del todo las destruirás: no harás con ellos alianza, ni las tomarás á merced.
3Y no emparentarás con ellos: no darás tu hija á su hijo, ni tomarás á su hija para tu hijo.
4Porque desviará á tu hijo de en pos de mí, y servirán á dioses ajenos; y el furor de Jehová se encenderá sobre vosotros, y te destruirá presto.
5Mas así habéis de hacer con ellos: sus altares destruiréis, y quebraréis sus estatuas, y cortaréis sus bosques, y quemaréis sus esculturas en el fuego.
6Porque tú eres pueblo santo á Jehová tu Dios: Jehová tu Dios te ha escogido para serle un pueblo especial, más que todos los pueblos que están sobre la haz de la tierra.
7No por ser vosotros más que todos los pueblos os ha querido Jehová, y os ha escogido; porque vosotros erais los más pocos de todos los pueblos:
8Sino porque Jehová os amó, y quiso guardar el juramento que juró á vuestros padres, os ha sacado Jehová con mano fuerte, y os ha rescatado de casa de siervos, de la mano de Faraón, rey de Egipto.
9Conoce, pues, que Jehová tu Dios es Dios, Dios fiel, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia á los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos, hasta las mil generaciones;
10Y que da el pago en su cara al que le aborrece, destruyéndolo: ni lo dilatará al que le odia, en su cara le dará el pago.
11Guarda por tanto los mandamientos, y estatutos, y derechos que yo te mando hoy que cumplas.
12Y será que, por haber oído estos derechos, y guardado y puéstolos por obra, Jehová tu Dios guardará contigo el pacto y la misericordia que juró á tus padres;
13Y te amará, y te bendecirá, y te multiplicará, y bendecirá el fruto de tu vientre, y el fruto de tu tierra, y tu grano, y tu mosto, y tu aceite, la cría de tus vacas, y los rebaños de tus ovejas, en la tierra que juró á tus padres que te daría.
14Bendito serás más que todos los pueblos: no habrá en ti varón ni hembra estéril, ni en tus bestias.
15Y quitará Jehová de ti toda enfermedad; y todas las malas plagas de Egipto, que tú sabes, no las pondrá sobre ti, antes las pondrá sobre todos los que te aborrecieren.
16Y consumirás á todos los pueblos que te da Jehová tu Dios: no los perdonará tu ojo; ni servirás á sus dioses, que te será tropiezo.
17Cuando dijeres en tu corazón: Estas gentes son muchas más que yo, ¿cómo las podré desarraigar?;
18No tengas temor de ellos: acuérdate bien de lo que hizo Jehová tu Dios con Faraón y con todo Egipto;
19De las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, y de las señales y milagros, y de la mano fuerte y brazo extendido con que Jehová tu Dios te sacó: así hará Jehová tu Dios con todos los pueblos de cuya presencia tú temieres.
20Y también enviará Jehová tu Dios sobre ellos avispas, hasta que perezcan los que quedaren, y los que se hubieren escondido de delante de ti.
21No desmayes delante de ellos, que Jehová tu Dios está en medio de ti, Dios grande y terrible.
22Y Jehová tu Dios echará á estas gentes de delante de ti poco á poco: no las podrás acabar luego, porque las bestias del campo no se aumenten contra ti.
23Mas Jehová tu Dios las entregará delante de ti, y él las quebrantará con grande destrozo, hasta que sean destruídos.
24Y él entregará sus reyes en tu mano, y tú destruirás el nombre de ellos de debajo del cielo: nadie te hará frente hasta que los destruyas.
25Las esculturas de sus dioses quemarás en el fuego: no codiciarás plata ni oro de sobre ellas para tomarlo para ti, porque no tropieces en ello, pues es abominación á Jehová tu Dios;
26Y no meterás abominación en tu casa, porque no seas anatema como ello; del todo lo aborrecerás y lo abominarás; porque es anatema.

1When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
5But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
11Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
14Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
15And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
16And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.
17If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
18Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;
19The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.
20Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.
21Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.
22And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
23But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
24And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
25The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.
26Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

1When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you;
2and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.
3You shall not make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son.
4For that would turn away your sons from following me, that they may serve other gods. So the LORD’s anger would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
5But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their engraved images with fire.
6For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

25You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
26You shall not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it. You shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.
