1Der König Nebukadnezar ließ ein goldenes Standbild von sechzig Ellen Höhe und sechs Ellen Breite anfertigen und in der Ebene von Dura in der Provinz Babel aufstellen.
2Hierauf sandte der König Nebukadnezar Boten aus, um die Satrapen, Oberbeamten und Statthalter, die Oberrichter, Schatzmeister, Rechtskundigen, Richter und alle anderen Provinzialbeamten zusammenzurufen, damit sie sich zur Einweihung des Bildes einstellten, das der König Nebukadnezar hatte aufrichten lassen.
3Da versammelten sich die Satrapen, Oberbeamten und Statthalter, die Oberrichter, Schatzmeister, Rechtskundigen, Richter und alle anderen Provinzialbeamten zur Einweihung des Bildes, das der König Nebukadnezar hatte aufrichten lassen, und stellten sich vor dem Bilde auf, das Nebukadnezar hatte aufrichten lassen.
4Sodann rief der Herold laut aus: Es wird euch befohlen, ihr Völker, Nationen und Zungen:
5In dem Augenblick, da ihr die Hörner, Flöten, Zithern, Harfen, Psalter, Dudelsackpfeifen und alle anderen Arten von Musikinstrumenten ertönen hört, sollt ihr euch niederwerfen und das goldene Bild anbeten, das der König Nebukadnezar hat aufrichten lassen.
6Wer sich aber nicht niederwirft und es nicht anbetet, wird augenblicklich in den glühenden Feuerofen geworfen!
7Infolgedessen warfen sich sofort, als alle die Völker die Hörner, Flöten, Zithern, Harfen, Psalter und alle anderen Arten von Musikinstrumenten ertönen hörten, alle die Völker, Nationen und Zungen nieder, um das goldene Bild anzubeten, das der König Nebukadnezar hatte aufrichten lassen.
8Sogleich darauf aber traten chaldäische Männer herzu und verklagten die Juden.
9Sie hoben an und sprachen zum König Nebukadnezar: O König, mögest du immerdar leben!
10Du hast, o König, Befehl gegeben, daß jedermann, wenn er die Hörner, Flöten, Zithern, Harfen, Psalter, Dudelsackpfeifen und alle anderen Arten von Musikinstrumenten ertönen hört, sich niederwerfen und das goldene Bild anbeten soll,
11und daß, wer sich nicht niederwirft und es nicht anbetet, in den glühenden Feuerofen geworfen werden soll.
12Nun sind da Juden, denen du die Verwaltung der Provinz Babel übertragen hast: Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego. Diese Männer haben sich um deinen Befehl, o König, nicht gekümmert; deinen Gott verehren sie nicht und das goldene Bild, das du hast aufrichten lassen, beten sie nicht an!
13Da befahl Nebukadnezar in Zorn und Wut, Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego vorzuführen. Als nun diese Männer vor den König gebracht waren,
14hob Nebukadnezar an und sprach zu ihnen: Ist es wahr, Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego, daß ihr meinen Gott nicht verehrt und das goldene Bild, das ich habe aufrichten lassen, nicht angebetet habt?
15Nun wohl, wenn ihr bereit seid, in dem Augenblick, da ihr die Hörner, Flöten, Zithern, Harfen, Psalter, Dudelsackpfeifen und alle anderen Arten von Musikinstrumenten ertönen hört, euch niederzuwerfen und das Bild, das ich habe anfertigen lassen, anzubeten, so ist die Sache abgethan; wenn ihr es aber nicht anbetet, so werdet ihr augenblicklich in den glühenden Feuerofen geworfen, und welchen Gott gäbe es wohl, der euch aus meiner Gewalt zu befreien vermöchte!
16Da antworteten Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego und sprachen zum König Nebukadnezar: Wir haben nicht nötig, dir darauf Antwort zu geben.
17Wenn unser Gott, den wir verehren, uns zu erretten vermag, so wird er uns aus dem glühenden Feuerofen und aus deiner Gewalt, o König, erretten;
18wenn aber auch nicht, so sei dir, o König, zu wissen gethan, daß wir dennoch deinen Gott nicht verehren, noch das goldene Bild, das du hast aufrichten lassen, anbeten werden.
19Da wurde Nebukadnezar so von Wut über Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego erfüllt, daß sich seine Gesichtszüge entstellten, und er befahl, den Ofen siebenmal so stark zu heizen, als man ihn sonst zu heizen pflegte.
20Auch gab er einigen von den stärksten Männern in seinem Heere den Befehl, Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego zu fesseln, um sie in den glühenden Feuerofen zu werfen.
21Da wurden diese Männer in ihren Untergewändern, Röcken, Mänteln und sonstigen Kleidern gefesselt und in den glühenden Feuerofen geworfen.
22Infolge davon, daß der Befehl des Königs so scharf und der Ofen übermäßig geheizt war, tötete die Feuerflamme die Männer, die Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego hinaufgebracht hatten;
23jene drei Männer aber, Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego fielen gefesselt in den glühenden Feuerofen.
24Da erstaunte der König Nebukadnezar und stand eiligst auf. Er hob an und sprach zu seinen Ministern: Haben wir denn nicht drei Männer gefesselt ins Feuer geworfen? Sie antworteten und sprachen zum Könige: Gewiß, o König!
25Er antwortete und sprach: Ich sehe ja nun vier Männer frei im Feuer umhergehen, ohne daß irgend welche Verletzung an ihnen zu bemerken ist, und der vierte gleicht in seinem Aussehen einem Göttersohne.
26Sodann trat Nebukadnezar an die Öffnung des glühenden Feuerofens hinan, hob an und sprach: Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego, ihr Diener des höchsten Gottes, tretet heraus und kommt her! Da traten Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego aus dem Feuer heraus,
27und die Satrapen, Oberbeamten, Statthalter und Minister des Königs versammelten sich und sahen, daß das Feuer über die Leiber dieser Männer keine Gewalt gehabt hatte, daß ihr Haupthaar nicht versengt, und ihre Kleider nicht beschädigt waren, noch auch Brandgeruch an sie gekommen war.
28Da hob Nebukadnezar an und sprach: Gepriesen sei der Gott Sadrachs, Mesachs und Abed-Negos, der seinen Engel sandte und seine Diener errettete, die nur auf ihn ihr Vertrauen setzten, den königlichen Befehl aber übertraten und ihre Leiber preisgaben, um keinen andern Gott verehren und anbeten zu müssen, als ihren Gott.
29Von mir ist daher hiermit der Befehl erlassen, daß ein jeder, welchem Volk, welcher Nation oder Zunge er auch angehöre, der gegen den Gott Sadrachs, Mesachs und Abed-Negos Ungebührliches redet, in Stücke zerhauen, und sein Haus in einen Misthaufen verwandelt werden soll, weil es keinen andern Gott giebt, der so zu erretten vermöchte.
30Darauf beförderte der König Sadrach, Mesach und Abed-Nego zu hohen Stellungen in der Provinz Babel.
31Der König Nebukadnezar an alle Völker, Nationen und Zungen, die auf der ganzen Erde wohnen: Möge es euch wohlergehen!
32Es hat mir gefallen, die Zeichen und Wunder, die der höchste Gott an mir gethan hat, bekannt zu machen.
33Wie groß sind seine Zeichen und wie gewaltig seine Wunder! Sein Reich ist ein ewiges Reich, und seine Herrschaft besteht bis in die fernsten Geschlechter!

1EL rey Nabucodonosor hizo una estatua de oro, la altura de la cual era de sesenta codos, su anchura de seis codos: levantóla en el campo de Dura, en la provincia de Babilonia.
2Y envió el rey Nabucodonosor á juntar los grandes, los asistentes y capitanes, oidores, receptores, los del consejo, presidentes, y á todos los gobernadores de las provincias, para que viniesen á la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado.
3Fueron pues reunidos los grandes, los asistentes y capitanes, los oidores, receptores, los del consejo, los presidentes, y todos los gobernadores de las provincias, á la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado: y estaban en pie delante de la estatua que había levantado el rey Nabucodonosor.
4Y el pregonero pregonaba en alta voz: Mándase á vosotros, oh pueblos, naciones, y lenguas,
5En oyendo el son de la bocina, del pífano, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento músico, os postraréis y adoraréis la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor ha levantado:
6Y cualquiera que no se postrare y adorare, en la misma hora será echado dentro de un horno de fuego ardiendo.
7Por lo cual, en oyendo todos los pueblos el son de la bocina, del pífano, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento músico, todos los pueblos, naciones, y lenguas, se postraron, y adoraron la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor había levantado.
8Por esto en el mismo tiempo algunos varones Caldeos se llegaron, y denunciaron de los Judíos,
9Hablando y diciendo al rey Nabucodonosor: Rey, para siempre vive.
10Tú, oh rey, pusiste ley que todo hombre en oyendo el son de la bocina, del pífano, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento músico, se postrase y adorase la estatua de oro:
11Y el que no se postrase y adorase, fuese echado dentro de un horno de fuego ardiendo.
12Hay unos varones Judíos, los cuales pusiste tú sobre los negocios de la provincia de Babilonia; Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego: estos varones, oh rey, no han hecho cuenta de ti; no adoran tus dioses, no adoran la estatua de oro que tú levantaste.
13Entonces Nabucodonosor dijo con ira y con enojo que trajesen á Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego. Al punto fueron traídos estos varones delante del rey.
14Habló Nabucodonosor, y díjoles: ¿Es verdad Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, que vosotros no honráis á mi dios, ni adoráis la estatua de oro que he levantado?
15Ahora pues, ¿estáis prestos para que en oyendo el son de la bocina, del pífano, del tamboril, del arpa, del salterio, de la zampoña, y de todo instrumento músico, os postréis, y adoréis la estatua que he hecho? Porque si no la adorareis, en la misma hora seréis echados en medio de un horno de fuego ardiendo: ¿y qué dios será aquel que os libre de mis manos?
16Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego respondieron y dijeron al rey Nabucodonosor: No cuidamos de responderte sobre este negocio.
17He aquí nuestro Dios á quien honramos, puede librarnos del horno de fuego ardiendo; y de tu mano, oh rey, nos librará.
18Y si no, sepas, oh rey, que tu dios no adoraremos, ni tampoco honraremos la estatua que has levantado.
19Entonces Nabucodonosor fué lleno de ira, y demudóse la figura de su rostro sobre Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego: así habló, y ordenó que el horno se encendiese siete veces tanto de lo que cada vez solía.
20Y mandó á hombres muy vigorosos que tenía en su ejército, que atasen á Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, para echarlos en el horno de fuego ardiendo.
21Entonces estos varones fueron atados con sus mantos, y sus calzas, y sus turbantes, y sus vestidos, y fueron echados dentro del horno de fuego ardiendo.
22Y porque la palabra del rey daba priesa, y había procurado que se encendiese mucho, la llama del fuego mató á aquellos que habían alzado á Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego.
23Y estos tres varones, Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, cayeron atados dentro del horno de fuego ardiendo.
24Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor se espantó, y levantóse apriesa, y habló, y dijo á los de su consejo: ¿No echaron tres varones atados dentro del fuego? Ellos respondieron y dijeron al rey: Es verdad, oh rey.
25Respondió él y dijo: He aquí que yo veo cuatro varones sueltos, que se pasean en medio del fuego, y ningún daño hay en ellos: y el parecer del cuarto es semejante á hijo de los dioses.
26Entonces Nabucodonosor se acercó á la puerta del horno de fuego ardiendo, y habló y dijo: Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, siervos del alto Dios, salid y venid. Entonces Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, salieron de en medio del fuego.
27Y juntáronse los grandes, los gobernadores, los capitanes, y los del consejo del rey, para mirar estos varones, como el fuego no se enseñoreó de sus cuerpos, ni cabello de sus cabezas fué quemado, ni sus ropas se mudaron, ni olor de fuego había pasado por ellos.
28Nabucodonosor habló y dijo: Bendito el Dios de ellos, de Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, que envió su ángel, y libró sus siervos que esperaron en él, y el mandamiento del rey mudaron, y entregaron sus cuerpos antes que sirviesen ni adorasen otro dios que su Dios.
29Por mí pues se pone decreto, que todo pueblo, nación, ó lengua, que dijere blasfemia contra el Dios de Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego, sea descuartizado, y su casa sea puesta por muladar; por cuanto no hay dios que pueda librar como éste.
30Entonces el rey engrandeció á Sadrach, Mesach, y Abed-nego en la provincia de Babilonia.

1Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
3Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
5That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:
6And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
7Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
8Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
9They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
10Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:
11And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
12There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
13Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king.
14Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
15Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
17If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
18But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
19Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
20And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
22Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.
23And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
26Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
27And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.
28Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
29Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
30Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.

1Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the local governors, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
3Then the local governors, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4Then the herald cried aloud, “To you it is commanded, peoples, nations, and languages,
5that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.
6Whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace the same hour.”
7Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
8Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near and brought accusation against the Jews.
9They answered Nebuchadnezzar the king, “O king, live for ever!
10You, O king, have made a decree that every man who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music shall fall down and worship the golden image;
11and whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace.
12There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, have not respected you. They don’t serve your gods, and don’t worship the golden image which you have set up.”
13Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. Then these men were brought before the king.
14Nebuchadnezzar answered them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you don’t serve my gods and you don’t worship the golden image which I have set up?
15Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, good; but if you don’t worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. Who is that god who will deliver you out of my hands?”
16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
17If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
18But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”
19Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
20He commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
21Then these men were bound in their pants, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other clothes, and were cast into the middle of the burning fiery furnace.
22Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23These three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the middle of the burning fiery furnace.
24Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished and rose up in haste. He spoke and said to his counselors, “Didn’t we cast three men bound into the middle of the fire?” They answered the king, “True, O king.”
25He answered, “Look, I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and they are unharmed. The appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”
26Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace. He spoke and said, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here!” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the middle of the fire.
27The local governors, the deputies, and the governors, and the king’s counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power on their bodies. The hair of their head wasn’t singed. Their pants weren’t changed. The smell of fire wasn’t even on them.
28Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god except their own God.
29Therefore I make a decree that every people, nation, and language which speak anything evil against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill, because there is no other god who is able to deliver like this.”
30Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
