O rei ordenou a Aspenaz, o chefe dos seus eunucos, que trouxesse alguns dos filhos de Israel, tanto da descendência real quanto dos nobres:

A los cuales el príncipe de los eunucos puso nombres: y puso á Daniel, Beltsasar; y á Ananías, Sadrach; y á Misael, Mesach; y á Azarías, Abed-nego.
Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

Mas Daniel propôs em seu coração que não se contaminaria com as iguarias do rei, nem com o vinho que ele bebia. Portanto, ele pediu ao chefe dos eunucos que lhe permitisse não se contaminar.
Y Daniel propuso en su corazón de no contaminarse en la ración de la comida del rey, ni en el vino de su beber: pidió por tanto al príncipe de los eunucos de no contaminarse.

O chefe dos eunucos disse a Daniel: “Tenho medo do meu senhor, o rei, que determinou a comida e a bebida de vocês. Pois por que ele veria os seus rostos com pior aparência do que os jovens da mesma idade? Assim vocês colocariam a minha cabeça em perigo diante do rei.”
Y dijo el príncipe de los eunucos á Daniel: Tengo temor de mi señor el rey, que señaló vuestra comida y vuestra bebida; pues luego que él habrá visto vuestros rostros más tristes que los de los muchachos que son semejantes á vosotros, condenaréis para con el rey mi cabeza.
And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”
Então Daniel disse ao supervisor que o chefe dos eunucos havia designado sobre Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias:
Entonces dijo Daniel á Melsar, que estaba puesto por el príncipe de los eunucos sobre Daniel, Ananías, Misael, y Azarías:
Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

“Peço que você teste os seus servos por dez dias; e que nos deem legumes para comer e água para beber.
Prueba, te ruego, tus siervos diez días, y dennos legumbres á comer, y agua á beber.
Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Então, que os nossos rostos sejam examinados diante de você, bem como o rosto dos jovens que comem das iguarias do rei; e, conforme o que você vir, lide com os seus servos.”
Parezcan luego delante de ti nuestros rostros, y los rostros de los muchachos que comen de la ración de la comida del rey; y según que vieres, harás con tus siervos.
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”
Assim, ele os ouviu neste assunto e os testou por dez dias.
Consintió pues con ellos en esto, y probó con ellos diez días.
So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

Ao final dos dez dias, os seus rostos pareciam melhores e eles estavam mais robustos do que todos os jovens que comiam das iguarias do rei.
Y al cabo de los diez días pareció el rostro de ellos mejor y más nutrido de carne, que los otros muchachos que comían de la ración de la comida del rey.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.

Portanto, o supervisor retirou as iguarias e o vinho que lhes eram dados para beber, e lhes deu legumes.
Así fué que Melsar tomaba la ración de la comida de ellos, y el vino de su beber, y dábales legumbres.
Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.
Quanto a estes quatro jovens, Deus lhes deu conhecimento e habilidade em toda literatura e sabedoria; e Daniel tinha entendimento em todas as visões e sonhos.
Y á estos cuatro muchachos dióles Dios conocimiento é inteligencia en todas letras y ciencia: mas Daniel tuvo entendimiento en toda visión y sueños.
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Ao final dos dias que o rei havia determinado para que fossem trazidos, o chefe dos eunucos os apresentou diante de Nabucodonosor.
Pasados pues los días al fin de los cuales había dicho el rey que los trajesen, el príncipe de los eunucos los trajo delante de Nabucodonosor.

O rei conversou com eles; e entre todos eles não se achou ninguém como Daniel, Hananias, Misael e Azarias. Portanto, eles passaram a servir diante do rei.

Em todo assunto de sabedoria e entendimento sobre o qual o rei os consultou, ele os achou dez vezes melhores do que todos os magos e encantadores que havia em todo o seu reino.
Y en todo negocio de sabiduría é inteligencia que el rey les demandó, hallólos diez veces mejores que todos los magos y astrólogos que había en todo su reino.
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

Daniel permaneceu ali até o primeiro ano do rei Ciro.
