Amós 8

1Me envió el Señor Dios esta visión: Vi un gancho de coger fruta.
2Y me dijo: ¿Qué es lo que ves, oh Amós? Un gancho, respondí yo, de coger fruta. Y me dijo el Señor: Ha llegado el fin de mi pueblo de Israel, no le dejaré ya impune por más tiempo.
3Y en aquel día darán un estallido los quicios del templo, dice el Señor Dios, serán muchos los que perezcan; y reinará por todas partes el silencio de la muerte.
4Escuchad esto, vosotros los que oprimís al pobre y estrujáis a los menesterosos del país,
5y decís: ¿Cuándo pasará el mes, y venderemos los géneros; y pasará el sábado, y sacaremos fuera los granos; achicaremos la medida, y aumentaremos el peso del siclo, sustituyendo balanzas falsas,
6para hacernos con el dinero dueños de los miserables, y con un par de sandalias comprar por esclavo al pobre, y vender a buen precio hasta el salvado del trigo?
7Este juramento ha hecho el Señor contra la soberbia de los hijos de Jacob : Yo juro que no me olvidaré jamás de todo lo que han hecho.
8Y después de tales cosas ¿no se estremecerá la tierra, y no prorrumpirán en llanto todos sus moradores? La inundará toda un río de calamidades; y quedará asolada, y desaparecerá como las aguas del río de Egipto al llegar al mar.
9Y sucederá aquel día, dice el Señor Dios, que el sol se pondrá al mediodía, y la tierra se cubrirá de tinieblas en la mayor luz del día.
10Y convertiré en llanto vuestras fiestas, y en lamentos todos vuestros cantares, y a todos vosotros os echaré el saco de cilicio sobre las espaldas, y os haré raer la cabeza; y a la hija de Israel la pondré de duelo, cual suele ponerse la que ha perdido un hijo único, y haré que su fin sea un día de amargura.
11He aquí que viene el tiempo, dice el Señor, en que yo enviaré hambre sobre la tierra; no hambre de pan ni sed de agua, sino de oír la palabra del Señor.
12Y quedarán todos trastornados, desde un mar al otro, y desde el norte hasta el oriente. Discurrirán de una a otra parte deseosos de oír una palabra del Señor, y no lo conseguirán.
13En aquel día desfallecerán de sed las hermosas doncellas y los gallardos jóvenes;
14aquellos que juran por el pecado o ídolos de Samaria, y dicen: ¡Viva, oh Dan, el dios tuyo; y viva la peregrinación a Bersabee; y caerán por tierra, y no volverán jamás a levantarse!

1ASÍ me ha mostrado Jehová: y he aquí un canastillo de fruta de verano.
2Y dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y dije: Un canastillo de fruta de verano. Y díjome Jehová: Venido ha el fin sobre mi pueblo Israel; no le pasaré más.
3Y los cantores del templo aullarán en aquel día, dice el Señor Jehová; muchos serán los cuerpos muertos; en todo lugar echados serán en silencio.
4Oid esto, los que tragáis á los menesterosos, y arruináis los pobres de la tierra,
5Diciendo: ¿Cuándo pasará el mes, y venderemos el trigo; y la semana, y abriremos los alfolíes del pan, y achicaremos la medida, y engrandeceremos el precio, y falsearemos el peso engañoso;
6Para comprar los pobres por dinero, y los necesitados por un par de zapatos, y venderemos las aechaduras del trigo?
7Jehová juró por la gloria de Jacob: No me olvidaré para siempre de todas sus obras.
8¿No se ha de estremecer la tierra sobre esto? ¿y todo habitador de ella no llorará? y subirá toda como un río, y será arrojada, y hundiráse como el río de Egipto.
9Y acaecerá en aquel día, dice el Señor Jehová, que haré se ponga el sol al mediodía, y la tierra cubriré de tinieblas en el día claro.
10Y tornaré vuestras fiestas en lloro, y todos vuestros cantares en endechas; y haré poner saco sobre todos lomos, y peladura sobre toda cabeza; y tornaréla como en llanto de unigénito, y su postrimería como día amargo.
11He aquí vienen días, dice el Señor Jehová, en los cuales enviaré hambre á la tierra, no hambre de pan, ni sed de agua, sino de oir palabra de Jehová.
12E irán errantes de mar á mar: desde el norte hasta el oriente discurrirán buscando palabra de Jehová, y no la hallarán.
13En aquel tiempo las doncellas hermosas y los mancebos desmayarán de sed.
14Los que juran por el pecado de Samaria, y dicen, Vive tu Dios de Dan: y, Vive el camino de Beer-seba: caerán, y nunca más se levantarán.

1Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.
2And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
3And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
4Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,
5Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?
6That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?
7The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
9And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
10And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
11Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
13In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.
14They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
World English Bible
1Thus the Lord GOD showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit.
2He said, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then the LORD said to me, “The end has come on my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.
3The songs of the temple will be wailing in that day,” says the Lord GOD. “The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.
4Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,
5saying, ‘When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;
6that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals, and sell the sweepings with the wheat?’”
7The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob, “Surely I will never forget any of their works.
8Won’t the land tremble for this, and everyone mourn who dwells in it? Yes, it will rise up wholly like the River; and it will be stirred up and sink again, like the River of Egypt.
9It will happen in that day,” says the Lord GOD, “that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.
10I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies, and baldness on every head. I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day.
11Behold, the days come,” says the Lord GOD, “that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the LORD’s words.
12They will wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they will run back and forth to seek the LORD’s word, and will not find it.
13In that day the beautiful virgins and the young men will faint for thirst.
14Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, ‘As your god, Dan, lives,’ and, ‘As the way of Beersheba lives,’ they will fall, and never rise up again.”
